Got another mod ready - and as it might not be the last, I figured I might as well start a dedicated thread for my own mods. This one is one of my new favorite vehicles in CMFI R2V: The Morris C9B SPAA. A favorite to play with, that is - not to mod! It has been a real PITA to mod, because it has no large surfaces, but millions of little nooks and crannies. Luckily, modding is now over and I enjoy playing with my weathered Morris SPAA. Hope you will too. As always I´ll share it via this Dropbox link - until it is available on CMMODS IV.4 points

Help with South African campaign

Yeah we sound nothing alike. I mean there's no swearing going on when the others all speak so it ain't Australian.2 points -
When I've run spotting tests with drones, the results have varied wildly between identical tests. Vehicles are reliably easier to spot than infantry, and moving vehicles are easier to spot than stationary ones, but that's all generalisations - I've had the same tests spot the stationary infantry long before the adjacent vehicles, and so forth. Based on that experience, I suspect that there's enough noise to obfuscate any differences between roles.2 points

Here´s a quick-fix mod set for the R2V Shermans. @DougPhresh made a request for Sherman mods for R2V the other day. I replied that I dont really have the time to make mods from scratch. Luckily, I discovered that I had an old set of Sherman Photoshop files that Aris´ once sent me. This was only the files for his CMBN Sherman IC mod, so most of the mods in this set are based on these. I have simply taken each bmp for the hulls and turrets of every Sherman in R2V - and placed the dirt, mud and grime from Aris´ Sherman IC on top of them. So most of the mods have the excact same layer of dirt on top of them. Luckily, it doesn' t really loook like that, because the base bmp´s are relatively different. In some cases, the bmp´s were so different from the Sherman IC´s layout that I couldn´t use the method described above. In that case I have taken files from other CM games and renamed them to fit. Or done a bit of modding myself. In short: This is not a set of mods made from scratch - but a quick-fix that will allow you to use "Aris´ed" R2V Shermans. Sherman grogs might find errors in camo schemes and such, but as far as I am concerned, they are as good as they get. I am sharing the mods via this Dropbox link - until they are available on Cmmods IV.1 point

VG pics that unfortunately, though of good size when zoomed, won't go full page. Even so, they're crisp, clear and offer a wealth of material on a host of subjects. Got this from a post by one of my CoC colleagues. So far, it's all been B/W, but there may be color in past the four pages I've viewed so far. One of the more interesting things I've found is a battle scene which includes a blown up Sherman and a blown up Italian built AB 40 or 41. This latter is especially interesting to me, because in the famous Paris uprising video you can see a CV 33, of all things, fleeing the city. Comparison of Firefly 17-pdr with US 76 mm and 90 mm guns
Bulletpoint reacted to Vanir Ausf B for a topic
They tried to. https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2-germany-panzer-panther-ausf-f/ TL;DR: After a year of development the first redesign got rejected. The second redesign was accepted and set to go into production in early 1945 as the Panther F, but it was too late.1 point -
Comparison of Firefly 17-pdr with US 76 mm and 90 mm guns
Bulletpoint reacted to John Kettler for a topic
Bulletpoint, From what I've read, the Panther was already suffering a lot of breakdowns from final drive failure--too much load on it. Could argue that may've been a factor. Nor did anyone I've read of properly anticipate first, the Pheasant (17 pounder ATG) nor the Firefly. Thus, the Panther wasn't designed with those threats in mind. which were 88 class weapons in terms of penetration, rather than the far less demanding short 75 or the more dangerous 76.2 mm and 76 mm guns. As it was, the Panther was a nightmare to deal with frontally. where statistically most of the engagements occur (cardioid distribution) for most weapons until fairly late in the war. You aren't fooling us Steve; we know that's from the CMBN Space Lobsters of Doom module. What we don't know is why the British MoD is worried about space lobsters.1 point -
Not exactly a good ambassador for the Netherlands, is he. The BIG PICTURE for you guys is BFC remains solvent and prospering sufficiently to keep putting out the products they want to put out. In the '80s the struggling Harley Davidson landed a contract to cast artillery shell bodies for the Pentagon, which allowed the company to remain alive for another 40 years. BFC is getting business. That's a good thing. They're not about to go the way of Brøderbund and THQ.1 point

Yup. This is problem with most points-buy systems in general though. Interesting alternatives include DBA's system, where instead of army lists you have all armies consisting of exactly 12 units, and the composition is what sets them apart. An easy option you could do alongside CM right now would be to co-opt something like the Combat Commander Random Scenario Generator tables. For CC, you roll for things like Year and quality of troops, and then can choose from a now-limited selection of formations, one, two or three platoons worth. These formations have attached equipment appropriate for them. The less you spend, the more likely you are to be the defender (so it's a blind bid, essentially). After choosing, the low bidder can then spend points to make up the difference from period-and-quality appropriate tables (say, artillery support, fortifications and assigned weapon teams). If the lower bidder goes over the high bidder's limit, they get the same opportunity. There's a little more to it than that, but that's the main thrust of it. It helps with balance that there's no armour in Combat Commander either.1 point

Some Tactical Advice Needed - Rooting out Infantry in a town
Howler reacted to General Jack Ripper for a topic
If it was me, I would have spent those 20 minutes using Target Briefly with two of my King Tigers on random buildings. 20 buildings in town, 20 turns worth of 15 second target briefly commands, probably about 20-30 HE rounds used, would still leave plenty left for the assault. As I recall, a King Tiger carries something like 50+ rounds of ammo? Lever a round or two of HE into a building, and see what comes out. Next turn, send more HE into another building. Recon by Fire as it were, but if you've already used up twenty minutes, you might as well start rolling in. You're not going to spot enemy infantry in buildings unless you either bait them into opening fire, or you flush them into the open. How much time is on the clock?1 point
