Chibot Mk IX reacted to mbarbaric in Soviet tank commander, in ou out?
yesterday I watched US training video about T64/72 and how US are supposed to deal with it. As some in this thread already mentioned, the video said the commander is buttoned down due to chemical threat. so that is that I guess. Will link the video if I can find it again.
found the video, quality is quite poor but it is interesting.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to akd in CMCW: TOW, M47, M901 and M2 can ID target behind smoke but not engaging
TOW / ITOW had a xenon near-infrared beacon in the tail. Consequently, the missile could not be tracked through obscurants by the optical tracker even if the AN/TAS-4 thermal night sight was used in conjunction with the optical tracker. This was only rectified with AN/TAS-4A, which was an active tracking unit, and the TOW-2 missile, which had a thermal beacon in the tail in addition to xenon near-IR beacon.
However, the tail beacon in the M47 may have been thermal rather than near-IR, so should be able to both see and guide through smoke if so. Need to double-check that.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to Badger73 in U.S. Thread - CM Cold War - BETA AAR - Battle of Dolbach Heights 1980
The M60A1 & M60A2 had a stereoscopic rangefinder which uses two eyepieces and relies on the tank commander to spin a range wheel until the two images merge into a single picture. When you had a sharp single image, it gave you the range to the target in meters and mechanically adjusted the gunner's sights to that range. The TC then gave the fire command (in this case 1,500 meters) as, "Range one five hundred meters. Fire!".
To save time and insure first round fired, veteran tank commanders and their gunners would pre-set the rangefinder to a "battlesight" range; either 1200 or 1600 meters depending on SOP. As soon as the gunner "Identified" the target in his sights, the TC fire command would be an immediate, "Battlesight, fire!". The gunner would check for "Burst on Target", re-aim to the point of impact and fire again until TC declared, "Target destroyed."

Chibot Mk IX got a reaction from Redwolf in Soviet tank commander, in ou out?
most of the IR lights and optics work at near-infrared to Short-wavelength infrared spectrometer .
Thermal sights capture the Long-wavelength infrared.
That's two sub-division under infrared spectrum, but they have a significant difference on wavelength

Chibot Mk IX reacted to domfluff in Soviet tank commander, in ou out?
Soviet doctrine was to fight buttoned. "Why" isn't entirely clear to me, but I imagine it's a number of factors - NBC, vulnerability to small arms since you're planning to close aggressively, the general low height of the Soviet armour, etc. It's probably a combination of factors.
The unbuttoned position for Soviet TCs isn't really conducive to it either - they're pretty exposed.
In practical terms, it shouldn't really matter. If you're following Soviet doctrine, you're massing armour in line, and so making up for poor spotting with multiple rolls of the dice - ten tanks with poor spotting will have the edge over one with better optics, at least until you start hitting Abrams and the technological edge takes over.

Chibot Mk IX got a reaction from RMM in Lightly injured unable Buddy aid?
I think this is a bug. Many times this happens when the casualty falls on the boundary of two tiles, that is very likely cause the trouble you experienced. Also , here is my guess, if you try to use a team with very limit headcount they will usually refuse to aid. Sending a squad could work but not guarantee.
I have a save file that a KIA pixeltruppen surrounded by couple squads/teams on the adjacent four tiles but no one help even after couple min. I will look for that save file later
Here is a screenshot of my current game
a two men Volkssturm Plt HQ team refuse to aid an injured comrade.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to Sgt Joch in cold war tank thermals novice question
M60A3 TTS and M1 have a thermal gunner’s sight and the commander has a repeater window to see what the gunner sees, no need to unbutton those models.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to domfluff in cold war tank thermals novice question
I believe that the TTS thermal sight on the M60A3 (TTS) is on the Gunner's sight, not the commanders. That means that unbutttoning shouldn't affect that (as far as I'm aware).

Chibot Mk IX reacted to ASL Veteran in Czechmate Battle- baffled by map design (vague spoilers)
The main thing you have to be aware of as the Soviet commander is that every single one of your BTR60s can swim. In fact, the only thing that can't swim are the tanks and the Shilka's.

On recon patrol to check for a bridge that was reportedly left unblown by retreating troops, Feldwebel Nentzer moved his Aufklärungs Pumas forward but ran into a Soviet recon patrol of T-70s.
This T-70 took several hits from the Puma's 5.0 cm gun before Nentzer's gunner hit the T-70 in just the right spot, causing a catastrophic ammunition explosion. The T-70 was swinging right to engage one of Nentzer's comrades, and presented his flank to Nentzer.
The war goes on.

First time defending in Berlin, with a company of regular infantry, backed up by a platoon of concrete & latest Stug III's, plus a cannon halftrack (SPW 251/22). Man, I love this map! Thank you so much for your great work Ben, BF and crew!
Anyhoo, I'm quite excited to try out the HT. Could only buy one, 'cuz rarity. Didn't buy AA. Guess what I heard in the sky after pressing Go on turn one. 😵 Below is one of the cornerstones of my defense: a fortified strongpoint at one end of the road that cuts Potsdamer Platz. After getting the all-clear on opening enemy arty, I sent in the HT to join the ATG to cover the road and tucked it in a nice little ambush position. Then this happended:
So far, it's been strafed twice, but has emerged unscathed (maybe the buildings help).
Meanwhile, the HQ of a machine gun support platoon gets the first spot on incoming Soviets from his upper floor building location near the Haus der Flieger.
View from the Soviet position:
Not quite time to open up yet!

Moments later, the Soviet wave crashes across the entire front line with Guards infantry and armor seemingly everywhere. German keyhole HMG teams open up on the Soviet infantry while a panzerschreck engages the lead T-34, hoping to knock it out before it can spot the machine guns. The schreck team lands a perfect shot and the tank erupts in a mighty explosion. The AT team then displaces as another T-34 is spotted further back. Hopefully, the team will be able to circle back and be ready before the new threat attempts to engage.
Meanwhile, the next block over is chaos. Just as the German AT team there raises its tube to engage a T-34, the Soviet tank suddenly turns and darts down an alley, leaving its infantry behind. The bewildered German AT team barely has time for a next breath before previously unspotted Soviet scout and armored cars dart into the fray. The buddy German infantry teams adjacent and below desperately keep Soviet infantry at bay, while the AT team goes to work on the light vehicles. It's touch and go, but the schreck team holds its nerve and manages to brave the thick rocket exhaust and dispatch multiple vehicles only seconds before they can return fire. The zone is hot!
At the far end of the company's defense zone, Soviet infantry rapidly closes and attempts to rush the sister strongpoint at the post office complex.
However, since the attack is unsupported by tanks, the defenders are free to fire and most of the attackers are quickly cut down. Only one or two Soviets manage to get past and round the corner.
Doing so, they find themselves out of the frying pan and in the fire, as they bump right into the German's flank anchor.
Death comes faster than any time for regrets.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to Mord in Mord's Red Thunder Portraits Version III RELEASED!!!!
Well, it's done. I am not happy with a lot of the portraits as they were the first ones I designed after I changed the style over. BUT I absolutely could not bring myself to redesign everyone of them at this time. I did however redo all the Russians. They are OK for the moment. At some point I may return to the mod and fix everything I dislike. So, here ya go, 2649 portraits!
I'll provide a Mediafire link until Bootie gets them uploaded onto the site. After that I'll get Elvis to edit the link into this post.
Have fun!
What the frig is up with the forum? It won't post my pics anymore. EDITED: figured it out. Gotta do it differently now (PIA).

Chibot Mk IX got a reaction from Vanir Ausf B in Panther G vs. IS-2
the bad luck could be caused by impact angle
Just look at how many 88mm AP rounds failed to penetrate the IS-2's side armor.
The amazing strong defense is caused by the posture of IS-2 . It makes the German AP ammunition impact at a 30 degree.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to akd in Number of G41 in German infantry platoon
A few soldiers per squad have a %chance to have a semi-auto rifle (G41/G43) instead of a regular rifle. I'm not sure exactly how the probability works under the hood, but probably the %chance for G43 goes up while the %chance for G41 goes down. I think the chance of semi-auto overall stays the same. Equipment quality setting (if selected before you purchase the formation) may shift the percentages away from semi-autos to regular rifles, but if so in this case, the effect is pretty subtle.
Doctrine and TO&Es called for concentration of MP44 into sub-units, so it doesn't work quite the same way. The MP44 is now mostly concentrated into dedicated "sturm" sub-units within formations. For "regular" infantry, you see this first with Grenadier Battalion 44B in July 1944 (should be available from start in June), which has an option to convert 1x platoon per company into a sturm platoon. Soldiers assigned an MP44 on paper have a chance of getting the MP44 or a substitute. With equipment quality set to "excellent" the chance is very high of getting the assigned MP44, thus close to paper organization.

Trying to replicate that old Kodachrome look. Not quite there yet. Props to @Pete Wenman for honestly the best maps I've seen in CM to-date! It's a lot of fun to play missions that aren't always knife fights in a phone booth.

Chibot Mk IX got a reaction from Aragorn2002 in Number of G41 in German infantry platoon
Here is a screenshot from CMRT's stock campaign "blunting the spear" , the PzG plt on the far left.
Yes, I noticed that too. I have a feeling that in 44 OOB the stg 44 slot now belongs to G43, and pixeltruppen armed with G43 in pervious version are now equipped with G41 .
Also all the AFV crew's P08 changed to P38

Chibot Mk IX reacted to Frenchy56 in Update for Juju's CMRT UI mod
Hello again, with the release of Fire and Rubble I have been working a lot on adapting existing mods to the new module. That includes the great GUI mod by Juju who has sadly ended support for it.
I have added or adapted weapon icons from other iterations of Juju's mods, as well as branches, ranks, etc. However I will tell you that I have made some changes to it that suit my preference more, so you may have to dig into the files to revert to default.

Chibot Mk IX reacted to chuckdyke in AT guns, a general question about when to fire.
I think your opponent spots the foxholes but not the ATG's. They are deemed to be camouflaged if you don't change their position during the game. Alt+T makes the foliage disappear and trenches and foxholes will be exposed, or you see a dent the giveaway of manmade structures. We make some player rules to address this.

Chibot Mk IX got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Night combat friendly fire casualty caused by HMG
Guys. Again, the casualty is NOT caused by Area Fire. This is CMFI 2.11,
Here is the save file of that turn's planning phase
