peter thomas
Do Patton commanders get best vision with open hatch, head in the free, open German air, or down inside using thermals? Can't work out if they have that kind of thermal, or something they would use whilst unbuttoned. Thanks.
domfluff
I believe that the TTS thermal sight on the M60A3 (TTS) is on the Gunner's sight, not the commanders. That means that unbutttoning shouldn't affect that (as far as I'm aware). Edited May 2, 2021 by domfluff
Sgt Joch
M60A3 TTS and M1 have a thermal gunner’s sight and the commander has a repeater window to see what the gunner sees, no need to unbutton those models.
akd
If the M60A3 TTS / M1 Commander wants to “hunt” and find targets for the gunner while the gunner prosecutes targets with his own thermal gunner’s sight, he is better off unbuttoned, except possibly M60A3 at night. Buttoned the M1 commander only has access to a day periscope to search with, the M60A3 TTS a day/night (image intensification) periscope.
