Well... don't believe everything you read :( Stingers aren't going to happen. Sometimes reviewers add their own list of things (we had one say US Army IBCT has LAV IIIs ;)), other times there is some miscommunication with the developer. All I can say is we still haven't coded air to ground combat.

Also, that is an old release date. It shouldn't be much later than Sept 18.

Steve

Will we be seeing an official anouncement soon?

Yep, thats the one! Its a weird setup though, with a turret in the middle of the work area and no extendable tent. Its also very low - I wouldn't want to have to work in one!

Edit- Oh yeah, the reason why I didn't think it was command post in the first place. Where is the antenna farm?

Sounds like you've been spoilt by all that headroom in the Sultan.

What is the latest on the development of this game and the demo release?

Ah, thanks for bumping this thread. I looked for it yesterday and couldn't locate it down the topic list. It seems whenever BFC dares post an initial release date 'guesstimate' you should add at least a month and a half to the date - going on past precedent. People should start a pool to bet which title will come out first! :D

I'm curious whether BFC will go the whole nine yards on the Snowball title. I mean the website and screenshots and its own mod/scenario section in Repository. Sure its their game engine, but its Snowball's baby.

No beta tester hints on this title, "the usual suspects" had nothing to do with putting this game together. Which makes me doubly-curious on what its going to be like. The Russian designers may have esthetics and standards entirely different from the BFC guys. We may gasp at what they eventually come up with - in a good way, and perhaps in a bad way too! :D

I'm intrigued to know how historically accurate the CM:Afghanistan game will be. Will it portray actual Soviet operations that took place during their invasion and occupation of that country, or will all the stand-alone and campaign scenarios be "apocryphal" battles merely representative of the sorts of engagements which took place?

I'm really keen on military history and would pay good money for this title if it stays objective and sticks to the historical facts. I'm sure all the media reports we got in the West at the height of the Cold War were as much propaganda as anything, so something that redresses the balance without swinging too far the other way would be great.

I am also quite surprised to find myself wanting to play the Soviets and beat the Mujahideen. How do others feel? I think this is down to 9/11 and the "War on Terror" making me feel the West supported the wrong side back then!

Alex, that is definitely not a repost. :D

From what (very) little I can gleen from the Snowball site the title is either going to go til the '89 Russian withdrawal or all the way til Taliban overthrow of the Afghan government in '92 (I had to check wikipedia for the Afghanistan war timeline). If the latter is the case that could make for three years of VERY funky post-withdrawal battles among opposing Afghans. A 3rd party scenario designer could get very creative.
