In an offense mission, the Player can rush or take it slow. In a defense mission, the pacing of the gameplay is entirely up to the scenario's designer. Defense missions must take extra effort to set up AI plans and such. Maybe that's why we see less of them?
I did enjoy the defense missions in Combat Mission: Afghanistan -- they felt very thematic. CM:SF2 Highland Games also had a very fun mission, where you hold off a Soviet-style mechanized assault. With QBs, it varies widely from "too intense" to "waste of time".

    No.
If you want both Afghan National Army and Taliban in a scenario you need to add [taliban] and [ana] without brackets to the modtag file in the editor. Each mod has its own tag.
Here is what I usually use :
    trashsoft
    mudhouse
    mudwall
    poppies
    ana
    taliban
    rubble
Yeah I could have used a single modtag for all the Afghanistan related mods but I chose to do it this way because it is more flexible. For instance someone might not want to have poppies replace grain tiles. Also, I will probably never do it, but I thought maybe one day I'd do stone houses that are more common in mountainous regions. So a scenario designer could have stone textures for houses if needed instead of mud houses. Or someone might design a scenario in Africa and find that mud walls and houses fit but he might not want Taliban fighters etc. So It gives you more options and adding 5-6 tags instead of an all encompassing one doesn't take much more time.

There's a whole bunch of them available for download in a thread in the 'Maps and Mods' section of CMFI - They're still a bit messy, in terms of missing descriptions, thumbnails etc, and missing AI plans for both sides (usually just an AI plan for defender), so I haven't put them on the Depot.
Over Christmas I'll try and finish them off properly (there are a lot of them!), and upload a big map pack to the Depot

Yes, as someone who never plays quick battles, this would be interesting. My guess: A Russian campaign in Berlin and / or the Seelow Heights and a German campaign with heavy tanks in Hungary. At least that's probably what I would do if I was in charge.

I value the Stuart tank immensely whenever I have it, and greatly appreciate its ability to just shut down snipers, MGs, etc with total impunity. It's height means it's good at spotting and its light weight and small size make it handy for sticking close to the infantry. It laughs off mortar fire and the cannister shot is a sight to behold. In a pinch, if the planets align, it can even kill a Panzer.
I fear no man, but that thing...it scares me.

Getting kills with hand held AT weapons is always nice 🤓...
And I actually LIKE the Stummels...like you said...if you can keep them alive they are quite useful...its a nice challange to try to keep them from dying.
    What i fear...larger assultguns would be one...😱

I find that I take inordinate delight in using Brummbärs, 20mm Flakvierlings, M2's mounted on anything, Mk 19 GL's (despite their horrible accuracy),  and elite snipers.
I fear Soviet SMG troops inside 200m (unless I'm running Begleitgrenadiers) and Javelins.

Agreed I love the module. I'm just curious if this was simply overlooked or intentional? I want to use all their units!

After playing for years, any unit that I am not familiar with.
I just enjoy trying to get the best out of every unit no matter what it is, weak or strong.
But to your point (how can you not like the quad 50) any time it manages to lock on a target its fun to watch the devastation.

I'm shocked to hear you say most people play the game from high up in the air and rarely look at the game close-up and see its visual detail. To me Combat Mission's most appealing aspect is the ability to watch events unfold on a macro scale in WEGO, then repeat the go 1, 2, or 3 times and watch interesting events unfold from the perspective of single vehicles and even individual soldiers. For me that's the core of its uniqueness and charm.

    I agree. Some QB etiquette:
    1. No Arty or airstrikes on the first turn. Setup areas are too exposed. Prolly ok during assaults but make sure both sides agree.
2a. May take 2 or 3 trys to get the QB game going. If one party isn't happy with some aspect(s) of the setup, just try again so that both parties will have fun.
2b. The more a player is on defense, the less they have to do. Gravitate towards meeting engagements.
    3. Talk to each other during the game like you were playing table top. Increases the fun x 2. If they ambush you or get an amazing shot, make sure you praise them for it after you get done screaming at the screen.
    4. Chat, but don't give away too much information. If you do accidentally, consider it battlefield intelligence and have the appropriate pixeltroopen shot.
    5. Don't gloat. Generally not a good idea.
    6. The more modern the game, the deadlier it is. Slightly larger games balance lucky hits or near misses.
    7. Avoid randomizing QB settings for PBEM games. Plan the fun, don't depend on luck to make a good game.
    8. Keep difficulty at Veteran or higher for better fog of war.

I think differently  When they say 'things are looking good for a release in 6 months', you seem hold that as a promise. It is not a promise. It's a roadmap with a 'guestimation'.
Conceptually there might never even have been any delays in the development, there were just increments of work progressing at a invariable pace. Other work taking priority it means that development was perhaps not as fast as could be theoratically possible, but I assume nobody did ever 'delay' the development just because they felt like frustrating you / insisting that the game should be released later without a rationale.
Well, to feel frustration is someone does to himself. I can't feel frustrated for you, nor can you for me (luckily :)). Games can't feel frustrated, or infer frustrations upon someone else.
So you choose, perhaps subconsciously, to be frustrated.
