Ghost of Charlemagne got a reaction from mjkerner in Terror attack in Vienna, Austria
Part and parcel of living in a country with open borders, and politicians who show greater concern for so-called refugees than the safety of European citizens.
These attacks will only become more commonplace as the number of religion-of-peace people keeps growing.
    Thanks Merkel.

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to HUSKER2142 in 12 years of military service in Russian Army
I apologize for my bad english.
Hi everyone, my name is Denis, I will briefly tell you about myself. I served in army RF for 12 years with 16.5 years of experience. I served in the infantry and mountain troops. He began his service as a conscript soldier, finished his service as a company commander in the rank of captain. I became an officer when I entered the officer courses and after 3 years received rank of lieutenant. I left army because of my health after being wounded, alas, with a metal rod in my leg, they write off, so I'm retired at 30 years old. I have plans to get a second higher education, I have already entered college and still want to get a flight license for an airplane.
The Combat Mission series was introduced to me by a friend of mine in 2014, my first game was CMBN and it is my favorite part of CM.
I am ready to answer your questions, to which I can give an answer. I will not answer provocative questions. Ask questions.

At least we can start by stopping the folks who like to behead.   Alternatively, let everyone in without restriction no matter how violent or anti EU cultural values.  How's that working out for Europe?

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to hypeman in US Army Rag Tag Uniform Mod
What's going on fellas! I finally decided to venture out into the world of modding and made my own uniform mod. It's nothing serious, I just took the coyote brown vest from Black Sea and put it over the UCP uniforms. I got the inspiration from the occupation phases in Iraq & Afghanistan; figured it'd make more sense to combo desert gear and equipment with the UCP uniforms. To make this mod possible I used gear from Oleksander's 7th Infantry Division skin mod and rag-tagged existing equipment found in the base game. S/O to Oleksander.
In the preview pictures I am also using
    ViperAssassin26's ACH w/ goggles mod & custom m4 mod. S/O to ViperAssassin26.
@Jace11's balaclava mod for CMBS. S/O to Jace11.
@Kieme(ITA)'s CMBS reworked faces, more faces addon, & 50% US goggles. S/O to Kieme.

I already PM'd @Bootie for help uploading the mod--standing by on a response--to the mod website so when I get things sorted out I'll drop a link on this thread.

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to JulianJ in Building 15 Posh Islamic Place - Plus some more flavour objects
I've made a new building. It's an upmarket one because I got tired of all the squalor. It is suitable for a governor's residence, mosque, consulate, or warlord's palace. I didn't know what to call it, so "Posh Islamic Place" will have to do. I've made or added some flavour objects so you can create a large compound.
It has two types of roof - one plain white, one traditional Islamic tiling.
NOTE: It is numbered to follow on from Kieme's original 14 buildings in HD. If you don't have these buildings, just renumber the MDR FILE so it is consecutive to the buildings you already have - e.g it will be building 9 if you have just the vanilla buildings. Unzip and place folder in Z folder.
I suppose you louts are going to blow it up now.

A compound, with attractive water feature and nicely placed for local shops and ISIS homeboy parties:
Note that the wall doesn't go all the way around for clarity.

Extra flavour objects - some I made, some which are from Black Sea and Kieme's Civilian Vehicles. Note they are in convenient flavour object slots.

Islamic decorated arch (pic doesn't show detail) and a flower bed.

    Frenchy56,
Had forgotten the fold down feature, but I see it's also got a dropdown armor plate that goes between the wheels.
    JoMc67,
If you read the accounts of having to leave the guns, the Russian crews would take the sights with them and hide the firing mechanism somewhere nearby the gun. Allies did much the same, from what I've read. Drabkin's book was clear that going back to get the firing mechanism was essential after action, else the Special Section might well charge sabotage! What the current engine doesn't permit is the stationing of the crew in shelter near the gun during artillery fire, then emerging to crew the guns, whose delicate sights they've had with them. Have several times also described  Russian practice of having only one man on a ATG at a time, after early war wholesale losses of trained crews, but while having plenty of guns, forced a fundamental change. The Germans did the same sort of thing when it came to sheltering a crew. The dashing of gun crews to man the guns after the enemy's barrage is shown in this clip from Brigada Tankova, but not installing the sights. The same situation obtains for things like HMGs. Allied practices weren't all that different in terms of disabling a weapon, but it's not the same as spiking an old muzzle loading cannon. There, a spike could take hours to drill out.

    Regards,
    John Kettler

This is a modern Russian artillery nomogram :

Example 3 ( the dashed green line) :
Determine how many 100mm cannon and the quantity of rounds needed to destroy dug-in personnel and weapons in a 7.2 hectare target area in a 10 minute artillery strike.
Begin at the "duration of fire" axis and find 10 minutes. From that point, move vertically to the 100mm line in "type of fire". Mark that point. Next, drop down to the "area of destruction" axis and find 7.2 hectare. Move horizontally to the 100mm line in "covered and concealed personnel and weapons". Move vertically and determine where the second point on the "type of fire" line and this line intersect. They intersect at 36 on the "quantity of artillery pieces (mortars)". The green line crossed the "quantity of rounds" axis at 1800. Thus the mission will require 36 100mm cannons and 1800 rounds.

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to SimpleSimon in High casualty rates in CM games
Many of the scenarios are designed around puzzle solving and play out almost every time like a siege. There are many symptoms of these conditions, but one of the most prominent is of closely matched headcounts or map populations between defender and attacker and this invariably promotes high lethality within a given slice of map. Force-to-space ratios with a high density of units promote extremely meticulous play and are often excessively relied upon to make up for a perceived passivity of the AI on defense.
As long as you're making reasonable decisions you have a right to expect reasonable results, and the game should score you fairly for that. Unfortunately, I think the way that we score the player's conduct in most of the scenarios is sort of poor and in a minority of cases, egregiously unfair or abusive.

Reported this.  It seems the gunner is in the commander seat and vice versa.  Thus with only two loaded, it can fire, but the gunner is not in the seat tied to reloading the RWS.

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to DougPhresh in CM Shock Force2 v2.03 patch has been released.
In the campaign, Dutch engineers with grenade launchers also carry a second C7.

e: Also about the Dutch, CV 90 air busting when firing at buildings is infuriating considering how much of their campaign is MOUT. The CV 90s could also probably using some tweaking to better conserve ammunition. I'm not sure if their crews doctrinally fire single shots or small bursts, but I feel like in SF2 they are firing like they have a 25mm bushmaster instead of their larger, more capable weapon.
Finally, and someone could clarify Dutch doctrine for me, how are squads supposed to split to employ the FN MAG and AWSM-F? I ask because if they are supposed to peel off into two-man teams, that can't be done right now.
I served as an artilleryman on 109's and 777's. 155mm shells will ruin your day, even under armour and I think subsystems like optics and radios should be more damaged, but there is a reason why battery anti-armour drills put most of the emphasis on the battery anti-tank weapons and not direct fire from the guns themselves.
Direct fire with a howitzer is not easy. They're not dual purpose guns like the 25lbr, we don't have HEAT or sabot rounds, heck we have bagged charges. Direct fire on point targets is much more effective than in the days of Wellington, but the principle is the same, and since the Boer War, whatever we are directly fire on is much better at firing directly at us, which was the whole reason for the switch to indirect fire.
All of that to say, there are a lot of things on a tank that will break from shell splinters. Many of those things like optics and radios probably should be more easily damaged in Combat Mission. Some of those things like pioneer tools, spare parts and jerry cans are not relevant to the time frame of a scenario. Some other effects like damage to electronics, crew stress, possibly damage to welds and seating of parts, I can't really speak to.
For Shock Force 2, It would be nice if the legacy "Armor" fire mission was either clarified to be HE-delay, in which case all titles should have it, retooled to DPICM, or removed.

Yea, its more than a little frustrating as someone whose enjoyed the games a lot. I'm spending a fair amount of time in the last few days trying to help people out over on the Steam forums and put a good face on the game. I don't want to have to deal with people talking faster than they can think.

    @IICptMillerII

    I mean really the whole thing is pretty simple - I would think it would be common sense;

    1. Don't call people mentally damaged
    2. Maybe don't go around complaining about moral virtue signaling after you called people mentally damaged.
    3. If you can do neither of those then don't make the post.
3a. If you absolutely cannot help yourself remove the beta tester tag.

Because fundamentally if there are in fact these mental defectives obsessed with Combat Mission your posts will not dissuade them. However, your posts sure as hell paint Battlefront in a bad light.

I think there are a lot more people out there like landser than anyone cares to admit.  Look at the number of people on Steam that said the owned the games, but hadn't played them in years.  For BFC and its "fanbois", its a shock to have the state of the market rubbed in their face.  Reputations don't get built in a vacuum.

Wow, this is some thread. The tribalism is strong.
I've been playing Combat Mission for 20 years and I probably would NOT recommend it except for very specific players. I praise WEGO, the tactical battlefield, and particularly the spotting, C2 and ballistics. But for me virtually everything else is out of date or substandard, including but not limited to the transaction process (Steam takes care of this), the upgrade method (also good now with Steam I suppose), AI, campaign system, editor, UI, QMB, graphics, and more.
How do I get Steam keys?
