Screenshot / Print Screen

I've searched with no success, so...

When I try to take a screenshot via Print Screen (Win 10) all I get is the game loading screen.  How do I capture the wonder of what is actually on my screen?  Do I need to use something like FRAPS?

Thanks, thought so but it's been many years since I used anything like Fraps - PrintScreen always worked in recent times.  Anyway, will wait for more advice from the said forumites.

I find that if you print screen and alt-tab to paint it will work eventually. Usually I have to make a couple of attempts.

I use the GeForce overlay to take pictures, and it works perfectly. It also works for recording. All you have to do is set GeForce to allow desktop capture and you're good to go. If you do not have an Nvidia card it won't work though.

In Win10, I've been using 'Snip & Sketch'. I believe you need to enable in win settings and have it replace the default print screen behavior.

You can use the snipping tool (Win+Shift+S), but it won't work perfectly - I'm not clear on the technical details, but a snipped screenshot will be of a lower quality render (it's clearly taking part of the output in some way, but not the fully processed part).

It's the quickest and easiest though. Mostly I use Fraps.

I have the same issue with screen capture in CM, so your not the only one.

I find that FRAPS causes loss of quality as well.

I recall the last time the screenshot topic came up someone had commented 'Works fine for me!' and I was like 'REALLY?' Its always been FRAPS for me. If you choose image format BMP or PNG instead of JPEG you shouldn't lose any quality.

Same for me.  Fraps stopped working on my PC a long while back and I discovered Bandicam which I installed and find more robust than Fraps anyway.

No one has mentioned XnView which is a good image editor for this. Choose Tools->Capture and then choose to Capture Screenshot. The short cut keys are Ctrl + F11.

If you have a AMD card (RX Vega 56 here), you can use the AMD driver software, Hotkey is: ctrl+shift+I. big advantage for me is that it is on all the time so you can take shots in game at any time.

I wrote the wrong name. I meant to write IrfanView. And you go to Options -> Capture Screenshot. But who knows, XnView could maybe work too?

It's the 21st century. AMD and Nvidia ship with tools to do this, AMD Relive and Nvidia Shadowplay. Don't use any garbage 3rd party tools. FRAPS and Bandicam are hilariously obsolete.

Thanks everyone.  Have been away in deepest darkest Devon for a week on a campsite with no electric ().  As I have an Nvidia card I tried the Nvidia game overlay (not Shadowplay but came with the card nevertheless).

Here's an attempt in RT with Winter Mod on (but not on the panzers however):

Caption of course would have been "Hauptsturmfuhrer, I don't like this yellow snow."

Anyway it's a start, might need to see if I can tweak settings or use movie mode, whatever that is .

Grrrr. I'm frustrated with nVidia's screen capture tool. I like how it works but it is so unreliable I'm officially going to look at BandiCam and InfranView.

For the last few weeks it seems that every time I try to capture a screen it just doesn't work. I have found that any time there is a driver update or a Ge Force Experience update they just arbitrarily turn off my ability to screen capture until I install the update. No, just no, that's not how this should work. So, I'm firing the nVidia 's in game overlay and looking for something better.

I also use nVidia, but supplement it with BandiCam due to frustration.

the secret to using print scrn is alt tabbing 3 times, then taking a print scrn. Its weird.

Im on Win10 and use PrtScn and then alt-tab and paste into windows Paint. For some reason the 1st attempt rarely works, but just do it again and it always works on the 2nd attempt.

Windows+G gives you the Game Bar and you use Windows+Alt+Printscr for your screenshots. Shows the location of your captures.

Thanks - I am pretty spoiled with files automatically getting created though

The good news is BandiCam seems to work - now we will see if it is reliable. It does seem that I can start it even after the game is running and it works.
