  1. Here's a background day combat.wav file. These ambient battle sounds are more distant. Its more subdued yet gives you something to listen to before the battle starts or when things go quiet. http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5465/details
  2. I understand the O/p's request and agree that more scenarios are better. Keep them coming. Relatively speaking scenario creation is extremely easy. There are games in a similar scope and scale to CM2 (one of them in a nearby forum ) that require the use of the included c compiler, and a graphic program for the map creation. Another game in similar scope and scale, does only allows scenario creation after going through a rigourous extraction process. The scnario creator we have with CM2 is the fastest and easiest I have seen for the compllexity involved. That being said, sure there is always room for improvement, I agree there. Put a nudge in, request in the approriate forum, sometimes scenario designers just need a reminder as incentive. As for tactical briefing graphics, I always felt a crude BMP drawing in an art program works as long as it can be understood, templates and appropriate generic symbols I think can be provided if someone wants to create a generic set. The briefing is just a text file. Actually I think I will create a scenario right now now that you mentioned it And I know a few are being worked on by the beta testers as well.
  3. Nothing flattens a building faster than the beast.
  4. Thank-you for taking the time to put this together.
  5. True, the game takes place in 2017. I would think such nuances as to vest standardization was easier left as resolved by then.
  6. The Ukraine manufactures and exports a variety of military and police grade balistic vests that offer anywhere from Class 1 to IV protection. The pictures I have seen indicate a variety of models outfitting troops, possibly based on service branch. I believe it is standard issue for all combat arms soldiers (tank crews excepted)
  7. Related to this as well, when AI troops disembark from vehicles, they grab a couple goodies on the way out the door too. I learnt this the hard way. I knew there was a Russian sniper team in a building, but chose to drive a buttoned UkrainianBTR a good 50 yards away from the building ignoring this a non threat for the time being. Whoosh, the sniper team show themselves and fire a rocket, nailed my BTR. I proceeded to some battlefield forensics because snipers don't carry a rocket. Well turned out this AI team was delivered by a Tigr, they dismounted, entered the building and the Tigr drives away. They grabbed the rocket from the tigr.
  8. Yes at end. But you can forgo the dismount command and directly pre-order the passengers to a destination even while the vehicle is on the move. In that respect the dismount is imbedded and just waiting to take place when the vehicle reaches the end waypoint. I pause the game and do this for all my mounted units while the carriers are in motion.
  9. John its just trial and combination based on size of the squad and what they are carrying already. A 6 man mech squad with an RPG 7 and RPG 22 can acquire one more RPG 22 (or RPG 26) for a total of two. But a 7 man mountain squad can acquire 2 more RPG 22 for a total 3. And if its a recon squad that does not carry an RPG 7 then they can acquire the whole lot of RPG 22 rockets. (also vehicles could randomly sub an RPG 26 vice a 22 for its stock) Here's an example of a Ukrainian 7 man Mountain squad mounted in a BMP 2. They are equipped already with an RPG 26 and RPG7 with 5 rounds. In this case the BMP 2 has the following available: 3 X RPG 26 1 X RPG 22 5 X Rpg7 Heat rounds plus mucho 5.45 and 7.62 ammo So you could acquire 2 more RPG 26 and all the RPG heat rounds.
  10. For the Ukrainians, lets say you have a mech squad in a BTR 4. You will see a load out like RPG22 AT X 4 ea 5.45mm +++ 7.62mm +++ Pg-7vL 93mm Heat X 5ea The PKM machine gunner in the squad only has 300 rounds at best. I always grab at least an extra belt of 7.62, 250 rounds. You don't want him to run out. The rest of the squad should be OK if fully equipped with 2000 rounds 5.45mm. If not then grab more. The RPG-7 grenadier has 5 rounds, so grab all the extra RPG-7 93mm heat for him, likely 5 in the vehicle The squad should already have an RPG22, restricted from taking more. But make sure all other teams like HQ, ATGM, MMG, snipers etc grab an RPG22 AT or two. Those are the tube shaped disposable rockets slung on their backs.
  11. Antaress might be referring to the St Alban affair which involved a small band of confederates retreating into Quebec. You are correctly referring to the Fenian raids of 1866-71.
  12. Potatoes. I agree the photo realistic quality and the models really look good.
  13. I was a medic with a Canadian Infantry Company serving in Sarajevo in 93. I went back in 2000 when nothing was going on. Also did 2 tours in Afghanistan, 2005, and back again a year later mid 2006. Speaking from my personal perspective based on what I experienced, in the Balkans for that early 90's tour was probably the most... acutely profound experience (for a lack of better words) of my military career.
  14. Military acquisition processes get fast tracked, or thrown out the window during a conflict. There are provisions for sole source procurements that would likely make this an overnight contract. The question is can this be installed quickly, or in country in the rear maybe third line vs factory installs. And how many does the manufacturer have sitting on the shelf. I'm gonna guess and say some tanks at present could have this in 30 days if the right strings are pulled so its entirely plausible.
  15. Forgot about that. At the time it was just concept art, fooling around. But I have acquired better graphic tools recently for detailing. Yes I will in the near future. Thanks for asking.
  16. Lav's, Bisons, Strykers, these vehicles do not do as well with AT mines , or improvised, compared to other vehicles in a similar class. A large percentage of Canadian casualties in Afghanistan were infantry mounted in LAVs. Canada rapidly acquired a quantity RG31 Nyalas (50 more to come) to replace some of the LAvs for their patrols. Now the lesser armed, cheaper, faster alternative was the vehicle of choice because it was better designed to resist mines.
  17. Perhaps a 2D step-out would solve all issues. Its been alluded to here I think by a couple posters. Press F whatever key, and there you are staring at a top down map with Nato symbols with numbers beside those symbols containing all the info you need. You will also have situational awareness of how or what the units are facing, moving, engaging for that instant in time across the entire field. Press F key and its back to 3D land. It may not completely solve why your ready reserve is a smoldering heep and you never noticed what smoked them. Only the replay key in WEGO can solve that.
  18. That zealous brad gunner hung onto the trigger for another 7 rounds after his vehicle was hit with a kill shot, now that's dedication.
  19. OK multi-plans, I see. Anyways it's a good idea to branch off this way. Its a good example to expand on.
  20. Interesting use of friendly triggers to set off various other friendly movements. Triggers for each unit are linear. So for your Group A5, when you say "OR" the sequence will only occur in numbered order, and the next order will not take place until the previous trigger is invoked. either by time or action.
  21. Maybe combo it up. As a "Tactics and AAR" sub forum just to keep it dynamic.
  22. There is a parallel in that statement to what has happened to battleships. Frigates, destroyers, are still around, lighter Missile cruisers have taken over from the battleships. The age of the dreadnought tank may give way to a lighter faster ATGM platform.
  23. Exactly, the Ukraine has sophisticated weapon platforms, a search on the Oplots, and even the BTR4 make them look pretty good on paper, I expect in reality too. Factor in production numbers by 2017 and you have a formidable formation.
  24. There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.
