  1. There is nothing faster than a Hell Cat in WW2. If you class tanks/TD under the same umbrella then the Hellcat was the fastest Tank/TD ever until the M1 Abrahms came along. Be interesting to see if that speed can be put to task here.
  2. I recall reading about period battles where at the corp level spg's were attached to vg divisions to help out. I don't know about panthers but the Germans were definitely shifting armour around in fire brigade fashion where the line was faltering.
  3. There are couple different strategies. Yes the tungkuskas are positioned hull down. Once you take out even two of them this should leave blind spots in their defences. a gaping hole to filter through. Bmp tow missiles should be able to mass on one at a time. There also is some dead ground on the map. Recon to find the safe locations. That will only get you closer and the tunguskas bite up close too. Simultaneous bmp cannon fire on one enemy vehicle, so coordination, you have a lot of bmp's so this is possible at the medium and close ranges. Air support can help only when most of the enemy AA threat has been eliminated. But can get rid of that last hold out. Finding the vantage point for your FO's to take out the bridge is important too without needing to expose them. Good luck?
  4. Just thought I'd refer to an old thread where I mentioned about a headshot mod I fooled around with. Use the headshot mod with the blood mod and you could get a certain degree of gore just by simple modding. But its not a purposeful depiction of bullet strikes, just random mayhem.
  5. I always thought this referred to the firing solution aids. In this case the fire control computer. From wiki "In the event of a malfunction or damage to the primary sight system, the main and coaxial weapons can be manually aimed using a telescopic scope boresighted to the main gun known as the Gunner's Auxiliary Sight" ...So maybe with targeting down there would be difficutly aiming at moving targets at further distances, as andreas said the old fashion way using the auxillary site still functions, but at considerable penalty.
  6. Sorry to hear about your troubles but glad it was not worse. The state abbreviation for Maine is.... que twilight zone music now.
  7. We need a danger close command. I think precision guided munitions are not represented well in that module. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Hasn't been a new pic for a bit. These I took a while ago, been taken up space.
  9. I thought the Nvidia Normal map filter is supposed to work with CS3. So it says anyways. Try the Nvidia plug-in for photo shop again. Mine shows up near the bottom of my filters list. If you get that to work then you are almost there. Its just a matter of selection, which axis to raise and what scale size to create for the bumps maps.
  10. Yes all bridges in the editor can be replaced with a broken version. That capability is built in. Play with the editor and you will find a strike out symbol in the same location as the bridge orientation selection.
  11. Did you try the Civfanatics forum? Very active Civ4 subforum. Might be worth a moment to register. http://forums.civfanatics.com/
  12. So how would China play in all this? 1. China would stand by and let the WW3 1946 play on, or 2. China would side with their communistic idealist allies, or would 3 China take advantage of the situation and make a land grab across the Ussuri (thus making them allies of sorts) They didn't stand by in 1950. Patton wasn't the only one, Churchill's operation unthinkable laid down the ground work for such a continuation of war.
  13. A glitch by design perhaps, for a meeting engagement. They are just abandoned trenches on the battle field outside of the set up zone. There may have been a remark hidden in the briefing somewhere about abandoned Hungarian positions.
  14. Thank you Hapless, enjoyed watching this. I like the way you orientate the battlefield to the observer. Makes it all that more interesting.
  15. Every 70 years or so the Sov.. Er Russians come up with an uber tank and display it for the wow factor. Last time it was Sept 45 Allied Victory parade in Berlin. IS3. They are just waiting for their next victory parade to display Armata. FWIW the Armata proto types a likely real and will roll off production lines someday, its just a cosmetically different design with a remote mounted mini gun not a giant leap.
  16. all unit textures, soldiers, vehicles etc can be featured based on the "best vs fast" performance setting. Not sure what the cut-off number is for each performance degree, but don't expect 8 variations of a skin to show up if your settings are at the opposite spectrum to best. Once the number of skins are in though, it does not mean texture 1 is loaded more than 4 or 2, or 3 for that matter. Based on what I have observed only, its kind of random. Sometimes 2 will be predominant in one game other times 3 and so on. ... It can be economical in terms of resources, to use fewer textures in the game depending on your computer. I have a 5 year old i7 but choose to select everything Best, and while using only a small variety of added textures, just my preference.
  17. Groups of tiles have different elevation and mixing configurations. After a while you get the knack as to which elevate sharply, and which are smoother. Also some appear to bleed into the next tile, others appear to not mix into a different tile, and the separation is noticeable, depends what look you are going for. Also, the banks of your rivers will change with tthe type of terrain tile being used. This is interesting to see as well. Ofcourse the major factor is always the elevation height setting, and the elevation height of the neighbouring tiles, after that the tile type as mentioned above comes into play.
  18. Why not? In 1943 the Norden company rented Madison Square Garden and folded their own show in between the presentations of the Ringling Bros Circus. Their show involved dropping a wooden "bomb" into a pickle barrel, at which point a pickle popped out.
  19. Oh and check the elevation numbers for your water as well. The water will always set to the lowest number since it can have only one elevation, and this affects the surrounding land tiles.
  20. Assault Command with very short waypoints is your friend when assaulting a team partially concealed in woods. Couple this with an area target on the sound contact icon by the same assaulting squad. Works. Even looks like an old school contact drill taking place. (very short way points)
  21. Make a square block with high walls. you can do that around a mod bldg to give it a roof. There now the crew can be placed in the bricked pen with no risk of being shot. And only the rescuers with explosives can get to them. Getting a crew is no problem. Dismount a tank in set up. Have reinforcements show up. If you need to have the pilot show up in the pen as a 1 minute reinforcement.
  22. Nice pictures peterpz. That first Ukrainian soldier would make good box cover art, nice touch.
  23. If there is a street unblocked, with occupied buildings on each side, ramp the speed of your vehicles to maximum (Fast) speed, and blow threw it. You only need to have a safe rally point on the other side. That's an actual ambush drill, and it works ingame too.
  24. 30mm or the ATGM on the BMP2's should hole them pretty good. Odds are in your favour.
