what a fun discussion for tank nerds.
The problem is the definition of 'best'.  For some it simply means the best combo of firepower and armor, so it's the tiger.  Others like to throw in mobility and say it's the panther.  For me every tank is a trade-off of reliability, cost, weight, mobility, fuel consumption, firepower, first-shot capability (optics, turret traverse), crew factors, maintenence difficulty, and the biggest of all perhaps -- availability when it matters.
Panther is great if available and working, but fails because unreliability which made it unavailable when it was most needed, at Kursk.  I've read that it was unreliable mainly because it was designed for ~35 tonnes and hitler wanted more armor w/o understanding the engineering cost of the added 10 tons on the drive train.  Any idiot can say "more armor and bigger gun is better!" without understanding the tradeoffs -- and next thing you know Porsche is designing worthless land battleships.  Like transporting the tiger which required changing tracks so it could go on train, then changing again when offloaded.
Of course in any given engagement I would rather have a panther or tiger than a T34-85, but I'd also rather have 5-10 T34-85s than one or two working panther/tigers, and that was reality.
I vote for the T34-85 also.  Great trade-off combo of all the big factors and had good enough firepower.  And the soviets got it onto the battefield in time to make an actual difference.

I haven't replaced anything! I added using the @umlaut guide
    http://www.mediafire.com/file/0g35it41bg7sskz/Adding+Extra+Flavor+Objects.doc/file
We can possibly tag them per month, then just go to the scenario editor and retag all the scenarios according to the month it happens
I am part of the players who like to replay scenarios several times and I sometimes change the mod to have a different atmosphere, so i change manually when i wanrt a new atmosphere!

As far as I can deduct from the Elvis Oracle´s utterings back then, that first "very" was six days before release.
Alas, I think the one you are referring to is not a "very", but a "very, very" 😉

During a rollercoaster year, one thing that has kept me happily distracted and occupied has been CM:BN and Paper Tiger's incredible Scottish Corridor campaign. Has been great fun commanding (and often cursing at!) the slow and lumbering Churchills seen below..

I don't really like "tanks army heavy weapons bigs guns incredibles rockets," I just want Barbarossa sooner.  The sooner we get FR the sooner they can start working on the early war years...I hope.

Literally never heard of this game until i saw it on Steam last year and i scoffed at the price at first.
5 months later I have purchased every single game and module except for CMFI, im going to buy it but my wallet lol
Massive respect to the developers for creating something amazing, that seems tailored for me personally.  I've been trying to get my friends to play but they arent tactical
Sorry if this is a boring post but I heard a podcast with a gentleman from BF and he mentioned they were testing Steam out and just wanted to provide this feedback
    Stoked for F&T and CW

Welcome! I remember when I discovered CM. I was standing in a friend's office when he said to another friend "did you hear about the new Combat Mission Beyond Normandy that is coming out". I asked about the game and was left gobsmacked that I had never heard and they had never told me about the CM1 games . The three of us immediately bought or re-bought the CM1 games and played until CMBN came out.
I wish I had known about them earlier - I would have been playing years more. I make a point of finding out what games those two are playing now

One of my favorite albums. Bought it back in 1980 - and when I rediscovered it a few years back, I was amazed at how well it has aged.

The Black Sea demo does, so I´d assume BN does too (I have the full BN game, so no access to the demo).
I agree with everything MOS said - and would like to add some advice I profited from when I began playing CM1:

Cheat-quit a lot (in the beginning)
When I started playing I often saved and then surrendered when I was stuck in a game. I could then check out the AI opponents force layout and discover if my combat actions had had the desired effect on the opponent - if any.
I think this helped me a lot to get to understand how the game and the tactics work.

I'd like to see a toggle to control troops' behaviour: Active/cautious.
If you have a team in a wheat field, choosing "cautious" would have them generally stay prone in the crops out of sight. "Active" will have them sit upright to gain LOS.
Same goes for movement orders. There would be fewer orders, and you would combine them with the stance:
"MOVE" + "active stance" = MOVE as we know it now: walk along and when taking fire, run.
MOVE + cautious stance = HUNT. Walk slowly and when taking fire or spotting enemies, go prone.
QUICK+ active = run FAST. QUICK + cautious= move quickly but return fire if fired upon.
SLOW + active= crawl and fire on spotted enemies. SLOW + cautious = sneak ahead and try to avoid firing (moving a spotter into position for example)

A bit anachronistic given the time frame, but to me it will be Nena's 99 Luftballons.

Little bit late for the current game at 1986, but this track really caught the cold war (& Thatcher Years) vibe, for me anyway:

For some reason this has never interested me, JMO.
Early war mobility battles with the shorter range of most weapons would make for some great war gaming on these CM maps imo (especially in North Africa and Russia). This is where I would like some time and love from BFC.
That is the timeline direction I would be more than willing to spend my money on, this 45-46 idea not so much.
Again, this is just my opinion, lots of people on here would love your suggestion though.
