Vanir Ausf B
Seems a bit pointless to worry about when you can already locate the position of anything that shoots just by moving the camera around to triangulating the sound.
HistoryLover
Are you always sure about the action square with the sound exploit? I'm not. But I guess the decals could be a second indicator and the combination of both should be even more potent.
Vanir Ausf B
You can usually narrow it down to a small area, a few action spots in size. With decals you would only be able to determine direction, not distance.
akd
I already told you that you cannot rely on entry and exit holes as a true indicator of the flight path of the round...
Vanir Ausf B
... And that too. It's really not something I'm concerned with.
Freyberg
You can always eliminate so-called gamey effects (like triangulating sounds) by being a lazy player, as some of us are.

Christ move 10 feet to change the channel? Damn I wish someone would develop a remote... but I WILL walk into the kitchen for beer, hell maybe run during commercials!

Rocky Balboa
Gamey decal exploits don't concern me but for those that are concerned. Perhaps make decals an option during gameplay but always shown during the AAR at the end of the game

Battlefront.com
The Red Thunder UI stuff, including the floating icons, are just now being made. All the UI in the game is mix between Fortress Italy and Afghanistan. Steve
MikeyD
Judging by the last several game releases I've seen, one gets the impression that some people imagine that the developers first complete the game then spend a month or two doing paperwork before finally releasing it. No, if they announce that the game is to be released in 4-6 weeks that means there's a solid 4-6 weeks worth of work yet to be done. Heck, sometimes a solid 7-8 weeks work of work left!
LukeFF
In campaign mode, if a vehicle has hit decals on it at the end of the mission (but is still intact) and the vehicle is not repaired for the next mission, will the hit decals show up in the second mission? In other words, do the hit decals carry over from one mission to the next?

HistoryLover
Given the awful state after a few battles of some of my almost blind, limping and out of ammo tanks in the incredible CMBN "Kampfgruppe Engel" campaign I could well imagine the penetrations will be remembered. Remembering the ricochets maybe would blow up the data per vehicle too much?
Canada Guy
Sorry, I never re-installed CMA after my computer crashed. Does anyone remember what the UI looked like (or the differences) between CMA and CMFI? Perhaps this is the reason that none of the AARs are showing us the UI (or perhaps BF has one more surprise up their sleeve and want to wait for a complete version to show us).
Pandur
is the new feature for decals "only" or does it include a vector that shows shot path, type of projectile and depth of penetration like in T72 balkans on fire? the vector T72 BoF showed where exellent, but decals only are pretty unsignificant. i was kinda hyped about dacals in the original theatre of war game, it turned out they dont do much as you dont see em in battle anyways. in turnbased you can look them up if you spend the time, in realtime there is no time to look up deacls. i dont see the fuss about this feature, if its decals only, well too bad. if it include the vectors like T72 Bof that is rly nice, i would like that.
A Canadian Cat
is the new feature for decals "only" or does it include a vector that shows shot path, type of projectile and depth of penetration like in... Yuck, no thanks. As the crew of the vehicle or even nearby observers who were not directly effected no one would be able to tell that kind of thing. No one would run up and collect the shell fragments to figure out what gun was used, no one would break out their measuring sticks to plot the trajectory. Not under fire anyway.
MikeyD
One utility of decals is if you see one of your tanks go BOOM on the far side of the map you can check out the size of the hole. Is it a hole big enough to put your fist into or a Tiny HEAT penetration? You get some inkling of what the unseen threat is.
Battlefront.com
No vectors shown like in our T-72 sim. Steve
Battlefront.com
If you saunter over to Bil's AAR thread you'll see some icons and stuff from CMA being used as placeholders for the Soviets. Other than that it's the 2D graphics from CMFI as placeholders. We're just now starting to replace that stuff with real artwork. You should see it in the AAR threads soon.
