TBH it really doesn't come any more cold war than this track from Pink Floyd (1983):

Almost all YT vids of Zapad-81 are contaminated by stupid BGMs, which I really hate. I really cannot understand why people ruin the great original with absurd BGMs. Anyway, finally I found the original propaganda video of Zapad-81. Redfor Pixeltruppens in CMCW 81' or 82' games may participated in this exercise.

well thank you for the dedication.  This was the focus of most of my boardgame purchases.  Gawd so many.  MBT, IDF, Air and Armor and those were just the tactical.  Went all the way up to The Next War and NATO.  Even went so far as to include 2nd Fleet to determine if NATO convoys would be able to cross the Atlantic....  This is my retirement year and you gave me the game I've waited decades for Bil/Capt.  Nice timing, how did you know?

    Yes.
The plan is to launch at the same time.
BF gets a bigger cut if you buy direct from their website. If you buy through Steam, both Steam and Slitherine get a cut is my understanding. If you buy on BFC and then import the key into Steam and download it there, I still think BFC gets the biggest cut.

YUP!  Take my $$$ now.  That time frame was extraordinarily interesting as NATO and the East Bloc were (more or less) 'balanced for gameplay.'
Can NBC be simulated?  I know that literal nukes are overkill, but having contaminated terrain type where MOPP suits degrade pixeltruppen speed, stamina and spotting capability would be a nice touch.

I'm more hopeful about fire being implemented like in the old games - where buildings and stuff could be set on fire and destroyed.
    Think napalm. And thermobaric explosives.

    Quoted  from wargamer.com:
the game will include three campaigns and 15 standalone scenarios West Germany between 1979 and 1982  between the US and Soviet forces The game primarily centres on the Fulda Gap  the first of the game’s campaigns follows US forces [...] Players take command of two US regiments to stop a Soviet invasion of Europe and can play the campaign in either 1982 or 1979 The second campaign, playing as the Soviets, traces the opening 48 hours of a fictional USSR invasion of West Germany The final campaign gives you command of a US Army Company Team, simulating battle in the US National Training Center The game also includes 15 standalone scenarios set in the US V and VII Corps sectors of West Germany, involving different-scaled battles, from platoon- to battalion-level historically accurate equipment and weapons effects, alongside a suite of era-appropriate tanks and vehicles – including the M48, M60 series of tanks, and T64 – alongside a range of US and Soviet aircraft, such as the F-4 Phantom and Mig-23/27

I think something like that 3-tone scheme was also used by the US Army for AFVs before the sandbox wars and its descent into Desert Tan Hell started.

Post here your engine 5 wishlist  I Would very like to know what other people want to implement in the game.
    Personally, I would like:
-Actual Servo Stabilizer for MBTs with two-plane Stabilizer
-being able to tell a vehicle with multiple heavy weapon systems (such as IFVs with Autocannons and ATGMs) What weapons to use (shoot ATGMs only, shoot Cannons only, shoot ATGMs only at Tanks etc..)

"Follow" command that works in terrain or on roads, and duplicates the waypoints for each following unit so adjustments can be made.

You, @Combatintman, @Sgt.Squarehead, @puje, @MOS:96B2P & @Aquila-SmartWargames are the only ones who've recieved various updates (other than a string text file).
For everyone else, any modpack & content pack will only be released when ready.
As well as avoiding confusion this has the added side benefit of ensuring everyone gets all available content in one go.

    Cheers.....I think!
TBH, part of the issue with the H&E scenario stuff is that the idea started on a whim, seemed to work OK so I decided to expand it, without much though as to what that would involve.
Winging it is definitely not the way forward and that's a fact....I'm on the third or fourth iteration of most of the maps, some have nearly doubled in area, I'm sure you get the picture.

that was a fender amp??  I'll be darned.  I thought sure it was a Vox.  My Vox sounds just like it I thought.  I have an AC15 (modern) and guitar w P90s instead of humbuckers but sure sounds similar.
Of course, this being a F&R thread, back to business.  Please oh please oh please let this ready for the rainy season (starts in earnest usually mid to late October).  Western Oregon can go weeks of endless cloudy/overcast and wet every day.

Since COVID quarantines began, I've gotten interested in wargames again, remembering my dad playing them on the dining room table on weekends (he and his friends played Tobruk, for example). Saw lots of interesting stuff, but not much for a Mac.
Then I rediscovered Combat Mission after reading reviews on sites like wargamer.com. I had one of their games years ago, called Beyond Overlord, I think? I recognize the visual style and turn-based format.
While playing the demo, I felt like this was the best kind of wargame for me, a lot like the old bookcase wargames. I'm having a lot of fun trying to learn my way through it. I was never good at wargames, but I like 'em anyway. So I'm glad for eye candy and cool sounds, and I really, really like being able to play back the turn again and again, looking at it from different angles. I wish I could save the whole battle, when it's over, and get one huge replay file of the whole thing.
That's probably my favorite part, the ability to rewind time and see what happened from almost any viewpoint... so I dug out a USB controller that's made for video editing (mostly), a Contour Shuttle Pro, and set it up for CMSF2. Now that I can turn, pan and zoom the view more easily, I am enjoying the game even more. I'm liking the real-time based option, too, but mostly turn-based. I am enjoying YouTubes by Usually Hapless. Amazed at the details and the activities of all my hapless pixeltruppen.
