This is really great advice! Start small and be realistic!
In the hobby of painting (model / miniature), it's pretty common for newbies to run into this issue you're describing too. I will often hear about people who spend substantial amounts of money to buy sable brushes, paint sets, airbrush(s), etc.. But when they find out that they are no good at painting they tend to give up, and I don't think many return because the gap between reality and expectations becomes perceived as impassable.
I say all of this because this is effectively true for most sports, hobbies, games, art, etc. - pretty much everything that takes skill to do, including map / scenario making. It's going to take time and effort to get to where you want to be, and you will still fail even when you're at your best. It's great to have big dreams, but delusions of grandeur never tend to end well!
And then this leads to one of my favorite quotes that's (mostly) applicable:
"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty … I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” - Theodore Roosevelt

Let's take a closer look at the AOK 9 records on this Hungarian excursion:
Sturm-Mörser-Kp. 1000 is last shown on AOK 9 list of einsatzbereiten (operational) panzers on Oct. 10, 1944.

There is then no mention of Sturm-Mörser-Kp. 1000 in the operational panzer holdings or transport records until Oct. 15, when the company is noted as in transport from XXXXVI Pz.K. to Budapest by train:

However, departure from Warsaw does not happen until the evening of Oct. 17:

Two days after departure, Sturm-Mörser-Kp. 1000 has switched from the Abtransport section to the Zuführung section. It is on the train to Budapest, but will be returned to the Warsaw area:

The following day the company arrives back in Warsaw at 12:10 a.m.  The entire "Hungarian jaunt" was no more than 52.5 hours.  Today (not 1944, not wartime) the train from Warsaw to Budapest one way takes 10.5 hours. I have serious doubts the company even made it to Budapest before being rerouted back to Warsaw.

Then the next day Sturm-Mörser-Kp. 1000 is back on the operational panzer list, but with one Sturmtiger instead of two:

Does this mean that one of the Sturmtigers was lost during the "Hungarian jaunt"? Not necessarily because this is a list of operational panzers, not all panzers.  It's quite possible that one of the Sturmtigers suffered some sort of irreparable mechanical casualty during this period and remained off the operational list until the company returned to Germany Nov. 22. In fact, given the shuttling back and forth, this seems plausible.

Right. Exactly what I described. That's the kind of thing we trained for. Along with of course, intervening in the Middle East, or Central America (rebels in El Salvador, for example), rescuing hostages, evacuating US civilians from some hot spot or potential hot spot (El Salvador again comes to mind in 1981). We pretty much had to be ready for any eventuality, without any notice at all. "Wheels up in 8 hours, come as you are"
Turns out the "intervention" we did in the Middle East was peacekeeping duty in the Sinai following the Camp David Accords.
Norway was definitely another possibility both for the 101st and 82d, not to mention the 10th MTN and the 9th ID (just covered the XVIII Abn Corps - except for the 24th ID). Norway is a prime location for the use of light infantry, assuming that like most WW3 potential stories, Norway is invaded by the USSR. Just need to provide enough choppers for mobility. And air cover to keep from having them all shot down. 101st has lots. The rest do have a complement of choppers but they'd need to be augmented to move around. That's a bit beyond the scope of CM, however, it could be simulated as lifts arriving at periodic intervals while the LZ is secured, similar to how the paratroopers arrive in Road to Nijmegan campaign in BN. (this applies to wherever they might be deployed - kind of getting ideas for some potential scenarios here while thinking back to real life, but it's going to be a while).

I had a friend whose voluminous internet searches had convinced him without a shadow of a doubt that Nazis flew flying saucers in WWII. I'm not joking about this. He genuinely believed it. I think it unnerved him when, instead of trying to argue the point, I simply laughed in his face.

    I know what you mean.
But, here's some inside ball: you've heard all the "gotta test to make sure a 'fix' doesn't break something else", right?
My contribution to CW is very small compared to the incredible work that others have done. But, here's a sample of what I put into this. There was a question about spotting. (This is the type of observed behavior followed by rigorous testing that discovered the infamous Tiger gunner sitting sideways issue.) In order to dig into the particular issue in CW, I created some tests. In the course of these, I entered, individually and by hand, 13,500 data points. Pause, look, type, tab: repeat thirteen thousand and five hundred times.
Let me repeat that: 13,500 individually entered data points. Painful? Oh, yes.
    The result? The game rocks.
Now, if there were patches released each week, they would NOT get this type of detailed testing.
(There's a game, not naming it, but has to do with Commanding air and naval stuff, in a Modern setting, at an Operational scale, that releases patches (and beta patches) pretty frequently. You can pretty much bet that each one breaks something. A sonar fidelity increase means ballistic missiles don't get intercepted.)
I'm a gamer, like you. We all would like a perfect game. Or, a better game sooner.
This is how it is, and it works pretty darn well...

AlexUK reacted to Macisle in My top three tips in CM2 series
Adding to the Target Briefly info just above:
You can combine the Target Briefly command with movement waypoints and pauses to use one unit to attack multiple targets in one turn (best used with AFVs).
So, for example, if you have one tank and three potentially enemy-occupied buildings you could do the following:
Target briefly for 15 seconds on building A with a 15-second pause on your tank. Add a movement waypoint (could be very close to the tank) with a 15-second pause and 15-second TB (must select the WP to add) on building B. Add a 2nd waypoint with a TB command on building C. The above works great for shoot-&-scoot tactics as well, like crest a hill, take a shot, and reverse back to safety.
I seldom use the regular Target command. Instead, I use TB with extra time (add 15 seconds per click). For area fire, I put in at least 15 seconds over a minute to "refresh" the option to continue next turn. If you only use 60 seconds, you might lose the ability to continue the targeting next turn, due to dynamic LOS obstructions (dust, smoke, etc.).
Another piece of CM advice is to get a feel for the Command & Control system and how it spotting information flows. This is most important for AFVs. If a tank has been given spotting intel and knows where to look for an enemy unit, he will spot faster than if he is spotting cold. If the situation allows it, a good trick is to have an open AFV paired with adjacent infantry with binos to help spot and pass info within voice range.
    Another tip:
Keep your HQs safer by putting a close-range circular target arc around them to stop them from engaging targets at range. Barring desperate situations, your HQs should be used for their command and intel-passing benefits, not for actual combat. A follow-up tip on this is to make the circular arc 50 meters. That's a good balance between hold-fire and point-blank security and is the maximum non-radio command range. So, it acts as a visual reference for keeping your non-radio units in command. Final note, you can use the target arc command to fine-tune unit facing on a waypoint for best spotting position. Then, on the next turn, you can change it to a circular arc. The units will keep the fine-tune position.
Last point on arcs: I like to issue a force-wide 50-meter circular arc on all infantry at start and remove the arcs as needed. That saves a lot of lives. I also tend to put arcs on infantry to keep them from firing beyond a usable range -- generally 150 meters. I use 50 to 100 for scout teams, depending on the situation.

It's no mindfulness exercise, please spare me the masquerading of your impatience as delays.

The delay in you grasping to understand that the world doesn't turn and tick to your clock is endless. 😇
Anyway, obviously you would have set priorities different; I get it. The only 'simple truth' in this is that you (nor me) don't decide on the priorities with regards to BFC.
The difference between us is that you are waiting and complaining for years, while I don't 'wait' for things that are outside of my control (unless it would be critical for my wellbeing; releases of computer games are typically not critical to my wellbeing). One day it will release (or not), if all is well I will take note of the release and download the game.
You remind me of an observation I made almost 2 decades ago. When in my early 20's I often had to travel by bus. I noticed many people checking the bus schedule at the bus stop and then looking at their watch and becoming irritated/angry that the bus has been delayed. While I never looked at the schedule, because me looking at the schedule wouldn't have any influence with regards to the bus arriving sooner or later.
That wasn't a 'one time' observation, I'd often see the same people around the same time getting worked up about the same thing.
Conceptually you are doing the same thing. Everyday it hasn't come out you are getting angry at more delays, even though they've said yesterday that it won't come out today 🤣
Now please excuse me I have something else to do, which is under my control (work).

Interesting source Aragorn 👍 Ideal conditions for a campaign ! Huge variety of forces, including everything except SS-formations. I am working on two F&R campaigns at the moment, what means a ton of work, but in my head the idea is slowly growing, to generate a whole CM F&R Campaign/Battle Pack...and East Prussia had definitely to take place in such a project 👍

Do you think this could be the beginning of an ongoing idea, where interim builds (tweaks, bug fixes, enhancements) could be made available to interested players prior to release?  I'm guessing that would be a viable approach as everything becomes available on Steam with a growing user base there, and would be useful for wider-scale testing.
I'm comparing to the likes of Command:MO where there's a core of regulars on the forum who are always keen to try out each beta as it's posted, helping iron out the wrinkles, and contributing to that eventual official update.

To be as clear as possible:
Cold War will release through Battlefront (BFC) in April as a completed game. All features, assets, and normal playability and functions will be present. This includes the PBEM/multiplayer functionality as it is with every other CM game.
In June, Slitherine will release Cold War on Steam. That release will come with a new mulitplayer feature, the Slitherine PBEM system.
Between April and June, the Slitherine PBEM feature will be developed by Slitherine and added to Cold War. Players who own the game from BFC will have the opportunity to try out the new PBEM features and report back on any bugs they encounter.

    Thanks, I hope so too.
Of course, at first I refrained due to most issues primarily being ones of function/inconsistency within the title itself, but as I moved to more historical corrections I should've been more rigorous. I'll recap the ones I've listed so far and in the future I'll append sources as I go. So, for each historical issue in order:
Armoured Car Troops having the commanding officer in one of the ACs, not one of the scout cars is corroborated by the Nov 1943 war establishment which can be found in digitized form here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160308230258/http://www.warestablishments.net/Great Britain/Reconnaissance/Armoured Car Regiment November 1943.pdf , examples of Lieutenants commanding from these vehicles in combat circumstances can be found in the 11th Hussars war diaries: http://www.warlinks.com/armour/11_hussars/11huss_44.php
Daimler Dingo stowage sketches can be found here, showing the rifle clearly: http://daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk/DFV-File Part Ad- DSC Data sheets.pdf and a recorded example of Dingo crews dismounting to use a Bren in an ambush role can be found here: http://daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk/14 Days in September.pdf and another instance were a Dingo and DAC dismounted to hold a bridge here: http://daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk/DFV-File Part D001a-Houshold Cavalry 1939-1945.pdf (Lt Powell commanding from the DAC is also a further confirmation of above). Additionally both the war diary extracts above mention a number of instances of dismounted reconnaissance and the use of Stens by crew/officers.
The Motor Battalion war establishment, including the number of arms per platoon can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20161108184741/http://www.warestablishments.net/Great Britain/Infantry/Motor Battalion June 1943.pdf
Twofer on this one as the US Rifle Company TO&E from 1944 details the allocation of both Springfield snipers per platoon and M7 grenade launchers per squad: http://www.militaryresearch.org/7-17 26Feb44.pdf
Bayonetstrength has a wonderful rundown on the evolution of the Parachute Battalion organisation drawn from the war establishments (which you can also find the raws of on the archived version of warestablishments I've linked above but it's all laid out in the bayonetstrength pdf anyway: http://www.bayonetstrength.uk/BritishArmy/BritParaBn/Org of the British Para Bn 1941-45.pdf
The Company Bren Detachment can be found referenced in the April 1943 War Establishment: https://web.archive.org/web/20190727204632/http://warestablishments.net/Great Britain/Airborne/Airlanding Battalion April 1943.pdf and Battle Order did an article on the Airlanding Company too, (though if I'm frank you'd have to ask Brendan where he got the 2x8 man and 1x5 man section org for the line platoons from): https://www.battleorder.org/uk-glider-1943
