Would the Russians notice that their supply lines are cut given that they have no supplies?

I can confirm that CMRT on Mac overwrites save files in 1-player turn-based as advertised, aka not affected by the bug.

No, this is a "charles-free" product, so no programming on the engine will be done. Charles is hopefully busy with engine v5 this year.

They have most of their BTGs located along the border with ukraine. Like 80% of them.  Support units from the far east. Almost the entire black sea fleet along with "costal defense units" (amphibious assault force) are now at sea minus two submarines that are under maintenance. Its pretty clear at this point that they will be invading. A country with the GDP the size of italy wont move forces like this as a play unless they actually mean to use them. As to why they are invading? I'd imagine they are taking advantage of the wests current state of foreign policies where in several years it could be a different situation, and lack of a stomach for a conventional conflict by western nations.

Just my 2 cents. Plus the build up over the spring was much smaller than the current forces aligned against Ukraine.

Redwolf reacted to Pelican Pal in Artillery ERA armor bug
Artillery has a couple of bugs around it that historically were being discounted by people. Combined I think they explain a lot of the inadequacy of artillery against armor and they just needed to be tracked down. The fragmentation bug has been logged but I'm unsure if there is a log of this ERA bug. The impact on armor is the same (only track damage) but in this case it involves ERA blocking the effect of artillery rather than fragmentation not being modeled.

When you consider that Black Sea has a lot of ERA equipped vehicles you can start to piece together how some tanks could take an absolute beating from arty and still be in a fighting state. A single direct hit doesn't reliably kill a tank so if say... 3 rounds directly impacted a tank but 2 of those hit ERA the result would be a tank that is still going to wreck your **** even if it can't move very fast or at all.

Buy the 4.0 update and then don't bother with patches. Downloads from the orders page in your user account. That gives you an up-to-date, comprehensive installer for all your content in one file.

That used to be more useful in CMx1 as it also displayed all target lines.
To determine whether a unit has a target active right now you have to visit each individual unit. That can be quite annoying if you have to check for stale area fire commands.

    1) only one side can see the end screen. The game is terminated one file too early.
    2) frequent hangs or other conditions from which a game cannot be resumed, the game is lost. This could be fixed by leaving the PBEM files on the user's disk (they are already there, just don't delete them when done with a turn).
    3) there was a phase where people using 1.03 were rejected from playing, PBEM++ saying they need 1.03. This was obviously a code update gone wrong server-side, then silently fixed. It should be communicated when the server side code gets updated, and it should be communicated when a problem is fixed.
    4) cases of server down or otherwise not answering for users. There obviously is no monitoring of server status done by Matrix.
    5) at least one case of a game disappearing before being finished. Also, the timeline when idle games are deleted is not communicated.
Not a bug, but it is annoying that the Matrix password is neither remembered nor does it support copy and paste. This forces the users into trivial passwords, which then in turn apply to their entire Matrixgames account, including game serials.

Before Matrix can fix anything they need to collect data. I haven't seen a Matrix person picking up responsibility for the code and/or engage with the community about PBEM++ on any comms channel.

IIRC the Germans retrofitted captured T-34s with cupolas and radios. I think there were sorta significant numbers of them around 1942/43

Redwolf reacted to Pelican Pal in Does Soviet tactics work in Combat Mission?
Actually while eyes are on this thread. I may have stumbled upon another issue while testing direct fire.

    Issue
When artillery shells impact an ERA block it shows the same effect as an air burst or near miss. Damage will only be done to the tracks and no other tank systems are effected. In the attached images/file you can see an Oplot take a hit to the ERA directly adjacent to the main gun and suffer only track damage.

    Test
    Game: Black Sea
    Artillery: 203mm 2S7M
    Target: Oplot

Well, we are now looking at two different issues:
    1) outright killing a tank with direct hits (this page)
    2) Pelican Pal's findings that near misses never cause subsystem damage other than tracks
I find #2 much more interesting. Maybe there can be an engine 5 fix for it. PP has made an excellent argument and analysis.
