Judging by past precedent Ukraine is probably going to be getting lots more Volkswagen Amaroks and radio equipment. And tents. And used British helmets.

You look at the inf in the game and you see a LOT of scoped weapons. Not just sniper rifles but machine guns, carbines, you name it. These aren't conscript soldiers spraying & praying. I recall someone on this board mentioned that the Taliban was circulating rumors that captured fighter were being executed. What was happening was they were fighting behind cover, only exposing their heads during a firefight and were suffering a disproportionate number of head shots as a result

A few months back I took a look at the flames art with an eye to modifying and was frightened off. A nice project to tackle if I had a couple spare months to dedicate to doing the art! Your work is super-appreciated.

Though the worst piece of the movie, that part with the Tiger was only one small episode. I think they were trying to depict hitting the tank with smoke then covering open ground quickly and getting behind him. Their plan fizzled when the Tiger didn't cooperate and instead rolled forward through the smoke to meet them. Necessitation keeping all three Shermans in the same frame (and not widely separated dots on the horizon) for movie purposes kind'a screwed up the depiction of the tactic.

Sigh. Not that right wing macho fantasy of armed insurrection, again.  I can't recall the NRA coming out and championing their pet cause of citizens taking up arms to fight government oppression following the recent police shootings at Ferguson. I guess that right to insurrection is *selective*. Only applies to ranchers grazing on public lands.

Initially those vehicle rear-mounted .50 cal mgs could be manned and fired but it caused endless grief with the turret rotating to the rear at the worst possible time to bring the mg to bear on the enemy. Eventually it was judged to be just not worth it and they pulled the plug.

The alternative to 'walking' is 'assaulting' across unnecessarily great distances. The perfect way to split your squads at the most inconvenient times, and rapidly tire your men while covering ground no more quickly than a walking pace would have.

For 30 years the Pentagon has been dancing around the notion of providing the army with a simple direct fire low pressure gun like the 90mm Mecar for infantry support. But every time they approach the topic 'committee think' sets in and they go off on some weird 'high technology' tangent from hyper-velocity 75mm guns to overhead-mount 105 NATO tank guns to exotic vertical launch missile systems. When all the infantry wanted was something that could put HE rounds into a building while in close proximity to friendly units.

I've often joked that some people tend to raise the camera up to where they lose all the detail, then they stay at that height and complain of the lack of detail.   The graphics do 'kind'a suck' - from 20 feet up and 20 feet back. Some of the youtube videos I've seen of the game I've found myself yelling at the monitor "You're too high up! Lower the frickin' camera!!!!"

I don't know what video card Peter Panzer has (post #107 on the screenshots thread) but I'd kill for a picture like that.

The old v1.00-based CMSF game engine is probably past salvaging. So returning to CMSF would most probably mean a ground-up redo with precious little that's recoverable. Not a mere engine upgrade. And they'd hardly be expected to return to fighting in 2007 again. So the notion of 'returning to CMSF' would probably mean returning to similar modern desert war. CMSF but not CMSF. Maybe the next CM desert war would be against Egypt, or Lybia, or some god-forsaken spot out around Turkmenistan.

I recall when John Huston was filming combat footage in Italy in WWII he found actual combat to be dreadfully 'uncinematic'. So after the action he'd often call the same units back to recreate their deeds more 'Hollywood' with cameras optimally placed for most dramatic effect.

If your troops are already maxed out on carrying weight the won't pick up the valuable weapons off bodies. That's one of the downsides to acquiring a couple extra Javelin missiles and a thousand more rounds before you exit your vehicle.

I'm reminded of M60A2 'Starship' with the Shillelagh missile system. Minimum range was a staggering 730m and max range was only 2000m. imagine trying to use that vehicle on a CM map!
