I've still got my respirator ... for some reason the QM didn't want it when I dekitted, yet I still ended up getting billed for something anodyne like a set of KFS and a plastic mug.  I've also got all my NBC Chemical Downwind Message, STRKEWARN and other report formats and plotting templates just in case ...

Hi all, really looking forward to this module. I served in BAOR from 1983 - 1988, so a little after this initial release. From my time at least i would say one of the main concerns was NBC warfare, not so much Nuclear at this stage but definitely Biological and Gas. I would estimate we spent about 80% of the time whilst on Exercise in our NBC suits.
Nobody really knew what was going to happen, but initially there would of been a big fear of Chemical warfare, it would be good if this could be simulated somehow. i know at the time that any smoke, cloud, mist etc i saw and i would of had my mask on pronto.
Training in NBC gear was extremely tiring and cumbersome, especially in the Summer months so even if reduced visibility, higher exhaustion etc could be modelled.
I'm on the right in the picture below, taken about 85, with a typical bit of squaddie humour 😉. I see if i can find anything more relevant, i think i still have the old 'Survive To Fight' pamphlet in the loft.
    cheers all

Gives an idea of what the NBC procedures were like for UK Forces, i can't emphasise enough how much time was spent on Exercise in BAOR (83 - 88) in some kind of NBC readiness, and carrying out these drills on a regular basis night or day. It was common place for our CO to order a Gas drill at some ungodly time of the morning just as you pulled into laager following a route march or relocation.

you could try asking at http://ww2talk.com/index.php, i have found that site to be extremely helpful in the past. Also Google Maps street view can be quite helpful for getting a feel for the area, although there is a lot of new development you get a good idea of the lay of the land.

A great place to start is First Clash by Kenneth Macksey. An easy read, but very informative, having been commissioned as a manual for the Canadian Armed Forces in the early 80's
Team Yankee is in a similar vein but written as an out and out novel and so offers slightly less detail re TOE and weapons systems than First Clash

Thought it would be good to start a thread with recommended reading on the era to get prepared for release.
I'm interested in more entry level stuff on the weapon systems, TOEs and doctrinal changes occurring in the period but I'm sure others would have different interests.

No worries mate. I play CM and browse the forum as a way of escapism, as I'm sure a lot of us do. I'm just fed up to the back teeth of hearing how we are all doomed after Brexit, by those who never wanted it in the first place. If you really want something to fail it will. I just think we should get on with it now and learn to live with it. Moaning gets you nowhere,  ask my missus 😉

Can we not make this political? It would seem by your post that your not a supporter of Brexit? Nevertheless a democratic vote was taken and the result was Brexit. Wether you agree with the result or not is irrelevant, it is here and we must make the best of it for all concerned. We all know the media love to put a negative spin on everything, continually moaning about what a mistake it is will do no good for anyone, and is quite honestly becoming rather tiresome.

slippy got a reaction from George MC in House rules for Tank/Infantry Cooperation?
Thanks everyone, i am aware of Hard Cat rules, i probably should of mentioned as i use them and Frankos rules for Infantry. For me though there is still this gap when it comes to Armour/Infantry Cooperation.
I also use the rule that armour can only target enemies it has contact with, or enemies that a friendly unit has 'pointed out' (same action square, tracer, etc)
i am more looking for some rules on cooperation, and how messages would be passed realistically. I'll continue to work on my ruleset.
    Thanks for replying
