I actually said that first, at Naseby. But, my quill and ink were in the baggage train, and got stolen by that Rhinelander Prinz Ruprecht, so I wasn't able to write it down.. -

Having given the campaign another go, I got to this mission bearing in mind Majick's OP. First impression of the map. The "Monastery" looks like nothing of the sort. It is just a hilltop church with a low wall about 1 AS away. No cloisters, no vegetable patches, no orchards, no barns, and no high wall. In other words, nowhere to ambush Jerry. My tanks, and infantry in, or near the church, got slaughtered within a few minutes. And it wasn't too much longer before my outflanking troops followed a similar fate. I hit "Cease Fire" once I'd lost all my tanks. Of course, that meant the campaign terminated early. And although I scored a "Tactical Victory" overall, it was still a disappointing end. -
noob question Tactical use of splitting squads?

Yeah, I'm guilty of that as well.- 50 replies

And there was thinking that the "MAD MINUTE" was what CM was all about.
-
Haha.
-
That makes sense, tested, or not.

My worst experience came when I had spotting rounds landing behind my FO. I quickly hit "Cease Fire" before he got hit.

Maybe one day, the game will have Hedgerow 1, Hedgerow 2, Hedgerow 3, etc etc etc. All of varying heights, thicknesses, and made up of different types of trees, and soils. But, I can't imagine it is top of BFCs to do list.

Yeah watching your men suffer whilst not being able to intervene can be agony. But, then watching them kill enemy who suddenly pop up will have you cheering like crazy. And I particularly enjoy it when members of the same Squad start taking on different enemy targets at the same time.- 28 replies

For most forumites. Either "Devon Basic Training " or "Task Force Raff Combat Training" are considered to be "the first campaign". I now realise that you are attempting to play the game alphabetically. If I were you I would watch all of the Armchair General videos. Then watch one or more of the videos from Task Force Raff. Then go back to the Game Manual and play both "Devon" and "Task Force Raff". Whilst closely following the advice given in there. It will save you a lot of frustration.- 28 replies

I'm getting confused. There isn't a school in the first training mission in Battle for Normandy.- 28 replies

First make sure you both read, and understand, the Briefing. Rather than wandering off down the road, or the right hand field. Your first point of call should be the position marked "Overwatch". Give your HQ's and troops, "Target Arcs" so that they don't fire at once. Once you have got Jerry rattled with your mortars, you can then remove your "Target Arcs" and build up fire superiority, allowing your infantry to advance one objective at a time. Their is a large gap in the hedgerows on the left. You just have to study the map during the set-up phase to find it.

It seems a bit strange that the translator puts Ausonia in France. But, it's still a great picture. -
I don't know, John. I tend to rely on you for that kind of info.

You can get your men to throw grenades over walls, without a clear target. It is a shame that you can't do the same thing for buildings. -

The "shot trap" doesn't occur that often in my games. But it is fun when it happens, providing I'm not playing as the Jerries. -
Tank riding depends on which game engine you are using, and which engine was used by the designer of the scenario, or campaign, that you are playing.

Great story. -
Even with my napper removed from my body, by the foul Charlie Stewart x 2. I can agree with Doug and ME.

Recently got back to this brilliant campaign. Just played Mission 3. I took a bit of a pounding from Jerry arty fire whilst clearing the bunker complex on the left. Whilst in the centre I got a toe hold in Hanger 1 before all hell broke loose, and with no F...ing tanks I hit Cease Fire for a Minor Victory. So far that's one Tac V, and two Minors. Which means I'll have to crush the Jerries in "Digging them Out". Wish me luck.
