Somehow I became interested in armored vehicles, which did not go into production. I was a little terrified what monsters were building, how engineers could build them. And how many have not yet been embodied in metal 😎.

Last night I was playing an MG scenario as the Brits (inevitably) defending (I won't name it).
It was the usual thing. Taking on tanks with infantry and running out of ammo against repeated German onslaughts.
But I thought I had it in the bag with about 20 minutes to go. Why haven't the Germans surrendered though? There can't be more reinforcements, can there? Yes, there could.
Massive attack right down the middle and one to the right. As luck would have it I'd called in a long call time arty strike on the right "just in case" and the Germans walked right into it.
But my middle was completely exposed. The previous attacks had drawn my paras to the flanks where they were depleted and low on ammo. The reserve had been committed elsewhere. There was no-one to plug the huge gap.
I scrabbled around looking for anyone who could cover. The gap was largely open until it crossed a road at the foot of the hill the Germans were rushing down. Once they crossed that they were into the woods and there'd be little I could do to get them out. I pulled in mortar teams who'd run out of shells, HQs, AT teams, ATG crews out of HE, dismounted jeep drivers, anyone with bullets who could fire at the German flanks.
Then I looked at my rear. There was the battalion HQ and a nearby Bren carrier.
Major Cousens boarded the carrier with his team and started the journey round the woods to the road at the bottom of the hill. It would take three minutes to get there.
The guys who were firing on the attack were doing a good job but it wasn't quite enough. The lead Germans were reaching the road.
Then the Queen of the Battlefield roared into view at full speed. The gunner spraying the Germans crossing the road. As it continued, the Major and his HQ stood up in the still fast moving carrier, firing their Stens into the wheat field the other side of the road. There were red crosses everywhere.
When I hit the end of turn, the Germans surrendered. We made tea.
Nothing will make the Germans surrender quicker that a British major with a Sten riding the Queen of the Battlefield at high speed.
    I felt thoroughly British. 🧐
    Wish I took a screenshot.
    🤔

Exactly, I need to get reacquainted with CMBN as the last time BFC "improved" unit behavior - I needed to play SF/SF2/BS and avoided BN for near three years...
It's been good to see units surrender and not run back and forth in disarray towards known enemy positions.
Allow me to enjoy this before we break something else... is all I'm saying. No offense intended.

There are two modes in game: 1) Realtime where you can issue orders every second to your hearts content; and 2) Turn based (WEGO) where you trust the TacAI in 60 second cycles.
The issue seems to be that the TacAI is not behaving as *you* want it to. Personally, I'd be careful what we wished for given the result of  CMBN  v4.00-4.02.
Let's get reacquainted with CMBN before we try to break it again. Please.

This forum is invisioncic.com software. Although a .exe download is indeed quite strange and suspicious. Didn't see it here.
Edit: I do notice that they have setup a certificate for this site allowing HTTPS, which wasn't there recently.

Wicky reacted to MikeyD in Why is CMFB a separate title and not a CMBN module?
Normandy hedgerows are impassible to vehicles and need dynamiting to get through. Bulge battle hedgerows (and hedgerows in every other title) are just roadside brush than can be easily driven through.
Historical Bulge battle didn't have impassible snow drifts. They didn't get that blizzard snow we see in all the picture books until January when the Germans were already on the run. The deeper the snow in the game the more road types disappear until there's no more roads on the map. Scenario designers rarely use deep snow in scenarios because its a pain to fight through. Troops get exhausted almost immediately. Freezing temps have one benefit. The ground freezes and the chance of vehicles bogging drops sharply.
CMSF2 players often complain about troops exhausting themselves too quickly (carrying all that body armor in extreme heat) but its nothing compared to troops trying to move fast through deep snow in extreme cold conditions.
Wanting CMFB part of CMBN is mere sophistry. What would be the point? They'd charge you the same for it, anyway. Literally all of the art is different. the TO&E is different, even the tree types are different. Plus making it a module would have obliged purchasers to buy CMBN first. Just want the Bulge title? You'd be out of luck.

Now MOD might be merely trimming off a few tanks - and looking to provide private security for Quatar footie games to make a few quid on the side

Also near me the Army are flogging off shooting ranges for land for housing to put proceeds into kitty to pay for stuff.

Even though I dabble in art and computer graphics, gameplay is much more important to me than the visuals.
And to be honest, the level of visuals in the game are never going to that great anyway given the engine limitations (lighting, shadows, limited normal mapping, limited modding support).
So I prefer to play with a consistent visual style, which you aren't going to get with mods unless everything has been modded to the same style.
