CAUTION, Will have screenshots - Scenario Design

Recommended Posts

Don't know if this is the same for PC users but if you install Adobe Acrobat viewer it installs a browser plug-in that loads PDFs. Maybe worth uploading a PDF showing the scenario design doc that way? I can host on my .mac hosting account if necessary.

Anyone have a way to view word documents or pdfs online? I tried google documents but the file with screenshots is WAY too big.

As you can see, BFC is clearly resorting to ripping off another game titled "Combat Mission: Strike Force" and claiming it as their own.

Really, I had thought they were above that.

Yep, and finally remember everyone this is a draft, so there are some errors. the final version is being tweaked as I type, and will have more up to date screenshots and will be edited better. However, at least this gives you an idea of how the scenario design will go. Will have the second section out up tomorrow.

Wicky, thanks for doing this. Please post Section 2 tomorrow for everyone to look at.

Oh yeah, this is NOT the manual, but an additional guide on how to make a scenario. Done by the people already mentioned to give the scenario designers a heads up on how to create under the new CM. It is a draft, and the final version is being corrected, so there are some typos, and some out-dated screenshots, but you will get the general idea.

Can you guys clear up the confusion regarding map sizes?

Quote from design guide above:

By clicking on the ‘Map’ option in the drop down menu you can start to create a map up to 2144m x 2144m square
Quote from CMSF feature page:

Map sizes as tiny as 224 meters by 224 meters up to a massive 16 square kilometers
EDIT:- George Mc cleared this up in the other thread 16 square kilometres is the correct answer. :D

It's a typo in the manual (actually it was me not fully realising how you could make the map bigger!). I can confirm that you will have 4Km by 4Km maps. Just a question of whether you can play anything on it - by that I mean CMSF is light years ahead of what we all know in CM. The maps alone will blow our minds, but they do take a while to make, and they have a hit on the frame rate of your PC. So although you can make large maps it might be more of a challenge for people to play out scenarios on them depending on what the spec is on their machine.

As Rune has stated you have to mind that I wrote this a while back. The manual is being updated so what is being published at the moment is still a draft and a draft based on a BETA build from several months back. Things have moved on considerably in all respects. Plus I was still working out all the ins and outs of the game (The editor is a game in itself and a very addictive one at that - although it is easy to use so you can equally dive straight in and start building scenarios).

But then when CM came out most people could'nt play the large scenarios, now several years down the line large actions are playable. I guess the same will hold true for CMSF. Many people now would not have a machine that could handle a 16sq Km map with several companies worth of stuff on map, but a year or so down the line it will be possible as machines upgrade.

FWIW I have found myself playing in RT more than WEGO and enjoying it - but you need smaller units to make RT play enjoyable. Guess it'll be each to their own but whatever people like/want I'm sure CMSF will give it to em. I'll tell you one thing - you won't be disapointed!

Cheers fur noo
