  1. To be frank, you're the first developer I've seen that seems to have an issue with Steam - infact you seem to be going so far as to ignore the Elefant in the room (console gaming) in your rationale for dismissing it as a negative influence on PC gaming. Count me among those that are disappointed by BFC's absence on Steam. This is already starting to sound like there is an echo in the room but I am another customer that would love the opportunity to buy your older titles on Steam if they were available at a reasonable price. Yes, buy them. Again. That is in part because of your fine work, but also because of how useful and simple I find it is to have my games catalogue on Steam. I recognise that people shelling out $25-30 for your back catalogue may not be as appealing as 25 bucks a pop for an older game - but what if it's 5 people doing that instead of 1? What if it becomes 15 people when the price of the pack goes down? How many more people would hear about the newer games like Normandy if they were featured on Steam? With a demo and word of mouth (aided by the community functions but also the general popularity of the service), Normandy could potentially reach a much greater audience. I don't mean to suggest you haven't considered this and I realise I obviously have no idea what a Steam publishing deal entails as far as cost on your end. It seems to me like there are merits to the Steam model, considering the significant industry and consumer support for it.
  2. My comment was more in response to the rather distasteful and dehumanising tone I find your posts to contain, up to and including your latest. This is a trend I've noticed, going back as far in my memory as the old military pictures thread - which left quite a poor impression on me as well as another member who I believe called you out for it at the time. Perhaps it is wishful thinking that the tone of discussion always be kept to a more.. well the term escapes me at the moment, so let's just say cultured level, given the content of this forum. I do generally find it is kept to a higher standard however, which is why I felt the issue needed to be raised again in this particular instance.
  3. MikeyD's reasoning for the lack of canister rounds is probably fairly accurate, though I look forward to the powers that be shedding some light on the subject! And take out the whole family with 'em.. hoo-ah! Oh. Did that just make it kind of awkward?
  4. Steiner, the problem there is after the 2 free games... what else is left to play? M1A1, your list looks about the same as mine. I think Assassin's Creed is a rental first, K&L as well.
  5. While I never really considered RT to be the spawn of the devil as many seem(ed) to, I was surprised how fast it supplanted WEGO for me.
  6. Received mine today, on beautiful Prince Edward Island. (Sorry, residents get a government stipend for the number of tourists they lure in. ) The envelope was pretty shoddy looking, I assume it was handled by Angry Postal Worker #13,064 through #13,320. Or maybe just my mail person. But the game case itself was in perfect condition! That's your brain telling you to put it down or air it out. I hope you're not a recovering glue/gasoline addict!
  7. I'm glad (well, a little!) to hear that I'm not the only one that has obliterated his own troops with a misplaced F-15 strike. Imagine my surprise when I give it a cease fire order and begin moving down the road shortly after, only to hear a very loud bang and notice my squads were totalled! Kind of gave up after that, I was surprised by how many troops were left when I looked at the map after ending it. But still I think I would've been able to assault fairly well had I not lost my full strength squads to my own incompetence. Part of the reason I screwed up so badly with the F-15 was that it was the first time I had even been able to use fixed wing air support and was not quite adjusted to the times and such. Loved the .50 cal as well, though I only managed to use it for plinking at the BTR's. Knocked out one and I must've disabled the other as it was dormant for the rest of the game. Definitely one of my favourite scenarios so far, great map, force selection for both sides and design in general! I will be giving it another go as soon as possible.
  8. Sergei, It would help with opponent finding but also - as in my case - it helps with actually being able to host. Fiddling with my router hasn't yielded many positive results from CMSF, so currently the only way I can host games is through Hamachi. As for latency, some people have said it actually improves the connection quality (not specific to CMSF, mind you), while I'm not sure of this I am quite sure it does not hinder it in any way. GDog, I had actually set up another network when I had a few games with some people from the Proving Grounds chat. Do you happen to have a premium account? I seem to recall there being a user limit for non-premium hosted networks, so hopefully we don't fill the network up too fast and end up fragmented on a bunch of different ones.
  9. So don't issue orders when you're paused. I am sure you are capable of some self-restraint.

  12. Frans, The movement is to show the path his infantry took when they dismounted (you see them in the building now, having taken the longer and quite a bit more deadly route) Pretty frustrating to have that happen, definitely something that needs to be looked at. Personally I've had Strykers decide to turn around and scream back down the road they just came from, instead of driving 10m through a clear intersection.
  13. Noticed this while I was playing a TCP game last night, several times I was unable to order a squad to jog down the long road on the right hand side of the Blue start area in the Al Huqf Engagement scenario. The order would appear but they wouldn't budge, no enemies in sight or any fire being taken. Definitely in contact with the HQ, as well. After a few tries I had to assign several waypoints to move in a straight line.
  14. Seems like the best way to do it. Not a fan of the official toolbar, my browser is cluttered enough as it is.
  15. Judging from the amount of scenarios that popped up today, I think a dedicated subforum would be justified.
  16. Didn't they say they have had some retail distribution problems? This press release seems to be saying it will be August 6th before it's in brick & mortar stores, which would make sense if they were having delays. There has not been a huge uproar over copies not being shipped from their webshop, and it's certainly available on Gamersgate.
  17. Would like to see it made, certainly. And while I am thoroughly annoyed about the lack of really functioning QB's, I realise I'll probably forget about it if there are zillions of varied and entertaining scenarios to play.
  18. Definitely enjoying it, and I'm hoping to continue doing so into the future as they improve on it.
  19. It should be a good indicator that you can handle the full release pretty well.
  20. Use Javelin and MGS support fire in that mission. Lots of it.
  21. You can put me down as someone else a bit disappointed by the lack of troop purchasing. We're not all cherry pickers.
  22. Assuming you're saying that you're also having trouble, it's not enough when something is actively interfering and preventing the game from being run smoothly. There are documented problems with dual core PC's, which is something you should look into.. My advice? Learn to use the Hotkeys. They're an incredibly useful tool. Usable from any menu at just the press of a button: G - Target B - Quick Move H - Hide N - Face You can use T and Y keys to quickly switch between command menus and there are hotkeys for other commands as well. While I think Rune's post was perhaps a bit aggressive, cut the man some slack. Do you think Battlefront has purposely made it so dual core systems struggle with their game? Of course not, and they're quite willing to help resolve the problem. However there are certainly some interface and usability things that can, and I imagine will, be looked at.
