CM:Bagration

Would have done perfectly.

Lest I be wrong, this game will (in the end) cover the whole last year of war across the front, eventually. Bagration doesn't work then. In similar vein CM: Operation Husky would cover all that is seen in CMFI base game...

In comparison, Battle for Normandy as a name may not cover the fighting in Holland seen in MG module, but at least it works for CW module and covers the majority of fighting seen in the full game.

One also has to remember that many people haven't a clue what Operation Bagration is. Which means not only does it not properly convey what the game is (i.e. it is much more than Bagration), but it also doesn't necessarily make people think "Eastern Front".

Trying to find one name that satisfies all marketing considerations is a lost cause. Just not going to happen. Which means there's always going to be someone who thinks they have a better name :D

Yes, Sergei is correct. We would have named CMA something else. CM Fight for Afghanistan, CM Battle for Afghanistan, CM Afghan War... so on and so forth!

...we had a pretty good name that wound up being "CMBS". Not!...

Good thing you are paying attention to this stuff. 14 years ago here in Canada at a conservative convention trying to form a new party that would unit the Reform party and the Progressive Conservative party the convention delegates voted on a new name. They chose Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance Party which was CCRAP. No one noticed the crappy achronism - or more accurately no one listened to the few people that put two and two together.

Wikipedia has a nice summary

In 2000, following the second of the two United Alternative conventions, the party voted to dissolve in favour of a new party: the "Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance", a declaration of policy and a new constitution.

...

Media covering the convention quickly pointed out that if one added the word "Party" to the end of the party's name, the resulting initials were "CCRAP"

...

One day later, the party changed its official name to the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance,[3] but was almost always called simply "the Canadian Alliance" or "the Alliance".

That story still makes me laugh to this day.

And we still ended up with CRAP.

We have a university in Tilburg that was supposed to be named Katholieke Universiteit Tilburg (Catholic University of Tilburg). They quickly changed "Tilburg" to "Brabant" once they saw the acronym - a not-so-nice slangword for the female genitalia. :D
