My read on British advances in tank invisibility are that they are called defence cuts. 😉

Alright, enough lurking, long past time to dust off my old forum account and say "hi" and thank all of you contributing this gem of a thread, which is keeping me well ahead of the mainstream media.

Can we just admire the huge leap in technology? No, not ATGM or drone tech. Pah! Who cares about that? No, the all important meme-tech. It has come leaps and bounds since The Great Meme War. The other day I was in the car with my brother in law, who barely even acknowledges the existence of the internet, when my 6 y.o. nephew pipes up. "Look, a tractor!" and I decide to be a smartass and deny it is a tractor. "It cannot be a tractor, it isn't towing a Russian tank behind it" and it even got a laugh from my brother in law. The memes of Russian ineptitude, and SOF-like abilities of Ukrainian farmers even reached him. I was surprised.

Of course, this war isn't all fun and games. I for one deeply lament Steve deciding to put actually making games on the back burner. Not that I can blame him, his new profit making scheme sounds very lucrative:  Cold calling autocrats the world over.
"Hello Mr Maduro, I am calling to let you know we are going to be making a game set in Venezuala"
    -Please don't. Here's 5 million dollars to **** off.
"For 5 million more, we will change the setting to Colombia"

Well done, Steve, that is now two countries you have plunged into chaos. If you ever make a game set in the modern Netherlands, I am gonna start packing.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for standing up to effing s**thead Putin, but the sad fact is that we have to factoring in the reality of the worst before deciding what to do. Personally, my fear turns to white hot anger in a somewhat productive way. If I didn’t worry, then I would start to worry if you get what I mean. So, when the war is over and we are all hopefully still here, I intend on turning that anger into a strong opposition to nuclear weapons. They are barbaric. It is insane that some countries can have them and thereby weild enourmous power over other countries. And they can have thousands of them. Can Sweden have one? Noooooo! So, my conclusion is that no one should have any. Is that realistic. No. Does that mean I will accept it. No. Anger/fear in this case turns to reaction/action which is productive for me. Accepting that people toy with the world for power’s sake (see lyrics for Dylan’s Masters of War). Am I a pacifist? No, but darn close to.

There is mountains on the UXOs in Kuwait after Gulf War and I knew people who did this work.  Munitions do all sorts of really weird stuff when one is throwing that much iron around.  You can get damaged ordinance and stuff that literally looks like someone just dropped it gently.

well nothing has really changed, there have been wars going on each and every year since 1945 which resulted in millions of deaths.
since 2001, U.S. Drone and air strikes may have killed as many as 48,000 civilians:
US airstrikes killed at least 22,000 civilians since 9/11, analysis finds | Global development | The Guardian
Just in 2022 you have wars ongoing in Syria, Libya, Yemen, Ethiopia, Suadan, South Sudan, Congo, etc..
There are 82 million refugees or internally displaced persons worldwide.
There is nothing special about this war in terms of human suffering that we have not seen before.
The only difference now is that this war is getting massive media attention.

Nope, you are wrong. NATO will defend all it's members, including the Baltic states. If Ukraine would have been a NATO member, NATO would have gone to war. Period. The fact that NATO isn't 'ready' is no matter in that respect. NATO will and can fight AND WIN if necessary. Although I emotionally understand you and would like to see military action from NATO, I rationally know that it's the right decision not to intervene military.
I also resent your remark about 'the little indirect help NATO provides'. NATO is doing all it can, except going to war. It's sending impressive arms deliveries and does everything to weaken the Russian war economy. Even if NATO was fully prepared for an offensive ground war, it would be extremly dangerous to do so and risk a nuclear escalation.
Apart from that NATO/EU is doing all it can to help the millions Ukrainians who are fleeing their country. And the West is risking it's economy in order to discourage and punish Putin for his aggression.
Again, I understand your emotions, but a little gratitude towards your only friends is in order.

Is this really necessary? How many are actually reading the number plates on the vehicles in the games? And in what way would different number plates make the games better? It won't make the games more tactical or more challenging.

The perennial challenge/problem with places like Afghanistan and others is that we in the west simply cannot accept that their culture and way of life is so inimical to ours.  So, we repeatedly assume that the people of those nations will all fall over themselves to embrace western-style democracy.
It took a thousand years for British-style democracy to emerge from warring feudal lords, and the US democracy "experiment" is an exceptional example that I don't think has ever happened b4.
It is much more common that nations with thousands of years of dictatorial/totalitarian systems tend to continue in that vein whatever they may call their system of government - eg: China, Russia etc.
Am old enuff to have learned that we have to deal with the world as it is... not as we wish it were, or hope that it was...
Many/most of these nations are hopelessly corrupt and life tends to be cheap ion those places.  As many from those countries come to the west, those cultural values become increasingly evident in the west.

@skelley I would suggest that you go to your local park in street wear. Walk straight ahead for 200 metres and time yourself. Then do the same thing again in boots and carrying some heavy objects (rifle, hand grenades, ammo pouches, entrenching tool are optional), whilst all the time looking to the left, right, and rear, and without making a sound. Not only will it take much longer, it will also be much more knackering.
In the meantime I'm off to celebrate the 27th with some Prez.

There's a war, you are an officer up to ~battalion or so command, and you gets orders.  You tells yer fellers where to go and what to do to meet those orders.  That's all you get in real life mostly I think, cuz most folks is usually confused by why they are fighting, based on lots of lying -- the list of that is endless -- and even decades after lots of folks still don't see the real reason even when it's proven beyond a doubt.
So why overthink it here?  You signed up and you have a duty.  Your commanding officer is not interested in your feelings or thoughts or concerns at the national political level.  Here's a big pile of men in funny clothes and steel hats w lots of cool gear.  Now get your men moving and get the job done, and that is an order.      At least here you get to chose who's side your fighting for, don't get much of that in real world.

Correct - also the abundance of sand is not particularly reminiscent of northern Europe.  Nonetheless that is how they set up.  I was in the British Army during the Cold War and we would set up in very much a similar fashion.  The trick was to try and find an empty factory or a big enough farm with plenty of barns to set up in.

I think as far as armor, only Panzer IIIG (in F&R) would fit and then some of the German armored cars/halftracks, but little outside of that. Soviets would be left without much but infantry, AT and artillery.
