Just picked up Red Storm free on library loan online on audio.  First listen in 30+ years.

So we just surprise-won the combat mission lottery for $50Million, and all folks talk about is "too bad it wasn't $51M"???  geeeeez, tough crowd 🙂

I reread Team Yankee just last year, decades after 1st read.  Was still great. And also did History of WW3, also great.  Need to re-do Red Storm Rising!

I'm having wildly inappropriate feelings about this game.

I'd say this is why we can't have nice things, like being told in advance of new products.  If they tell us it's cooking we will all be complaining incessantly about 'when will it be ready'.  (I am included in this complaining.)  I really like this surprise.  It killed my work productivity this morning but I am recovering finally.  This is a dream come true.
And so now I start complaining about not have Brits, Dutch, Germans, Belgians, French, Czechs, Poles, ......

CM Cold War takes place on the cusp of big changes happening to both the American and Soviet armies. The arrival of Abrams and Bradley changes the nature of the fight in Europe. Also in this time frame we get a fashion change! See attached, the Americans switching to battle dress uniform. This is new-new art that's still not in the current Beta so you won't see it in any of the posted screenshots. Please forgive my crappy graphics card.

Just stopped for the day during a REFORGER exercise...

Looks really good! Will the soviets have a change in thier uniforms too?

Here's some real world pics to get y'all in the mood.

Must have Dutch & Belgians -- long, long ago I was a 20 yr old in charge of all NATO forces in Europe.  I remember building a second, desperate defense line behind a river using  Dutch & Belgian forces in Red Lightning.  Soviets broke through to that line but were firmly halted, fortunately having been heavily depleted during the breakthrough.  So yes, let's not forget the Dutch!  I am guessing this game will be expandable to other NATO countries, like has been done w CMSF.  Certainly gives me a reason to wish for a long life!

Oh My Gawd!  Is that 1980s CM??  So like Red Lightning, or as someone said Fulda Gap?  What was that game I played in the mid 80s?  -- Reforger 88, that's was it!  Early Gary Grigsby work.  Loved that, and Norm Koger's Red Lightning.  I am calling if CMFY for F-k Yes!!!!

I proudly pre-ordered under the "BFC Diamond Club Option" which includes the 3 day all you can eat and drink weekend in Maine as well as the 1 hour combo ride/romp through the snowy fields in Steve's Weasel driven by Svetlana the semi-clad intern.
Money well spent

I've been playing a bit of Black Sea and Final Blitzkrieg.  Something just... POPS about those games that sets them apart from the others.  Is it my imagination or is something different with the engine/graphics?  Will this update to Red Thunder make the same difference, make the game POP visually?

Very interesting for sure. Apart from that I also would like to recreate the fighting in Eastern Prussia (Goldap for example), Saxony (Bautzen for example) and Silesia (Lauban for example). All German defensive battles followed by counterattacks with some success.
I'm also playing with the idea the create a campaign for the 1st (Prussian) infantry division. I hope the maps of some of these battlefields come with the module, but making them myself is also an option.
The 1st infantry division was one of the first divisions well equipped with StG 44's, so I hope that they will also be abundantly present in normal infantry companies.

If pre-order doesn't make sense for anyone, then don't do it.  but why bother to comment on it here?  
I do it to show support for a small company that gives me hundreds of hours of historically-based wargaming entertainment and doesn't sell out and become World of Tanks or some other twitchy gamey thing -- the kind of games that make a lot of money. 
Now that I've been nice to them I demand they immediately release eastern front 1941-43.
