all I want to say is "Wilcox Pass!" What a dam fine map and mission; I just spent about 45 min in completely demolishing those rebels in Syria... in veteran mode.
Just wish I would've gotten the screenshots to work, for some reason the game wouldn't let me get past the UI front end screen splash, that's all it would screenshot of and not the inside of the game. It's as if the UI front end is overlaid on the game itself. so this is a screen shot of the ingame mission? this is all it would let me see if I screenshot from inside of a mission or battle..

I found a file in my computer from community alert.dll; once I removed it from my registries, your game (demo finale blitzkrieg) now does not work.  Particular reason for this intrusive data file which seems to be sending you an alert when I turn on the game from you guys? (the Final Blitzkrieg demo.)
    Unless a coincidence?
I redownload the new version and its working now.

    MINUTE 7
As LAV #4 and #1 were moving towards their hulldowns positions they both spotted one of the Marders that came in with Baneman’s advance guard moving laterally just in front of KT-1.  LAV #4 and LAV #1 both spotted and opened up on the enemy IFV which suffered several hits in the side and a few penetrations.

Later it took several frontal hits and one partial penetration and internal spalling.
Those things are tough, but I expect it took some damage, perhaps to its weapon systems (the ATGM took what looked like several direct hits), optics, or maybe, if I’m extra lucky, to its crew or passengers.
It was reversing when I lost sight of it but not before taking several more hits.  It never spotted my firing LAVs.

Still, that doesn’t mean another vehicle didn’t, so next turn I will pop smoke and withdraw LAV #4 as it seems very exposed right now.  LAV #1 will also pull back over the ridge.  These LAVs are too light to go head to head against Marders and there are way too many enemy vehicles in the area next to the Marder to take unnecessary chances.

One Scimitar moved quickly to join its partner at the Farm 011 and Farm 012 area.

Speaking of that… two of the T-90s are moving as fast as possible, starting next turn, to try to get eyes on one or maybe both Scimitars there.  I think having these tanks deeper in the AO will hopefully disconcert Baneman some and could make him react with his Leos to counter them.

The intent with my moves right now is to try to isolate one or two of the enemy vehicles at a time while limiting my exposure to the bulk of his firepower.  Basically move into a position, spot if possible, take a shot or two then withdraw, rinse, and repeat.  I do not want to stay in one position longer than necessary in this environment.
Moving my fighter group from the Monastery area toward DUMAYR may not have been my smartest move... they are getting very tired and a few units are fatigued or exhausted.  Definitely not the same quality as line troops.  I am worried about them now... if they get caught in the fields with his technicals moving in on them they could be in trouble... I am moving another LAV into position to help in spotting those pickups and I am trying to position the RPGs in spots where they can get firing solutions if the trucks move in close enough.

PIR:  Will the enemy Mechanized Force attempt to seize KT 2?  It does not appear Baneman is trying to attack KT2 yet, but he could be building a Support by Fire (SBF) position to support such an attack.
PIR:  What is the force composition of the enemy Advance Guard?  This formation appears to mainly be made up German units, Marders and two Leopard 2A4s.
PIR:  Where are the enemy tanks?  The enemy Leopard 2A4 tanks are in the KT1 line providing fire support.

Mastiff reacted to mjkerner in can not play these game any more?
CMSF was my first intro to CM.  I had tried the demo, quite by accident, around 2002 or so, but not knowing game forums were there for help (they seemed mainly for jerks who harped about everything—present forum excepted, as it turned out), I didn’t think much of a “gaming table” floating in space with Moe, Larry, and Curly marching stiffly about and no instructions, so I spent all of 5 minutes on it!
Anyway, in January 2008, I had planned a week off work, mostly to catch up on painting miniatures (wife gone all day at work—no interruptions or distractions).  So 8:00am, coffee in hand, I surf the web for some AFV images and I find a YouTube vid of what was obviously some sort of super realistic looking animated Bradley laying some bitchin’ fire on some Iraqis (I thought). W...T...F is this? Quick search, voila!...I’m landing a US Marine recon team on a Syrian beach within the hour, and played it all the rest of the week.  Up until then, I had been a hardcore IL2 Sturmovik fanatic since 2000. I only went back to that game for about 2 months right before CMBN came out.
Thing is, I never really cared to game, or even read much on any modern warfare past Vietnam. CMSF truly opened up a whole new world for me. I have a pretty extensive home library section on modern wars now, and many modern war miniatures to boot! I better get to painting some of them before the end of July!

A company of M1A2s (14 tanks, including 5 with APS) frontal attack over 3.5-4km of open steppe terrain.. 3 krizanthemas hull-down on a hill... they kill 6 M1A2s.. damage another and the crew bails out.. 7 are left... The Kriz lose two (Ihad to move them a little and they got detected) and the remaining retreats downhill because no more ammo (but 4 kills). 20 T-90AMs who were waiting at the bottom of the hill get into hull down positions.. 7 were hit over the course of the battle by M829A4s where there is relikt coverage .. only one penetrated. A T-90AM survived two hits on the frontal upper hull because of relikt. It is very effective at 3.5km (6 out of 7 rounds stopped). I lost three T-90AM (two weapons mount penetrations and a relikt fail). They killed the remaining M1A2s. When lased they had time to back off and get out of harm's way ... Two had their 7.62mm mount destroyed by sabot rounds (close call). Shoot and scoot.

The russians were typical (some green crews,  many regulars, and 1-2 veteran). The US were also typical ( a few crack, many veterans and a few regulars). Total tally for that US frontal attack long range slugfest at 3.5km... 13 US tanks destroyed, one mission kill and abandoned and 1 Bradley for 2 Kriz and 3 T-90AMs destroyed. The T-90AMs won 7-3 at that range against the M1s.

The russians were definitely broken before patch 1.03. Now they are nasty. Who needs the Armata ? They just upgrade the 900 T-90As to the AM standard (like they said they would do, read that on a russian site) and they should be okay.

    Vin,

I noticed that using your animated text v1 mod with the new 1.03 patch creates this bug with the incorrect display of unit weapon names and the animated text. (see attached image below for example).

Although I think it would be pretty awesome if the Squad Leader was in fact a Leopard 2A4 armed with a Leopard 2A6 and the random Joe in the squad was an A-10 Thunderbolt II!!!

Mastiff reacted to agusto in Number of microphones and their use
A bit off-topic, but helmet mounted microphones a quite a luxury. Here is a little anecdote from my time in the austrian army: during basic training we were instructed on how to use the platoons only means of communication (besides some nokia mobile phones purchased from the commercial market): a 60 years old field telephone. In order to call someone, you need one guy with a cable spool on the back to run to the guy you want to call and if you want to talk, you have to turn a hand crank attached to a generator to produce electriciy . And i served in 2008-2009! LOL. The drill instructor told us how great that thing was because "the enemy cant jam the signal if you are using a cable".

Not sure if this happened to anyone yet, but when using my Engineers to blow a wall and enter a building.. they blow the wall, but head the other way and enter the house from a different direction.. obviously not what you want them to do.  There was a door for them to use, but they chose to go around an entire block to enter it from the front.. anyone else seen that yet.  I have not patched the game yet..  But will be doing that today.

No but there was a problem with moving troops that had one or two rounds fly by and instead of completing the movement they started cowering in the middle of the street.

Mastiff reacted to Abdolmartin in How to force infantry to use rockets on armor only?
    Hello everyone.

This might be a noob question, but anyway:

I was playing the "Platoon House Alexandr" mission and I had loaded my squads with all the RPGs contained in the vehicles. I had a squad of US troops with 4 AT-4s, inside a building. Then, they spotted a bunch of enemy infantry in the woods, and all of a sudden I watched in dismay as all of them pulled out their rocket launchers and fired all four in quick succession. Obviously, none of the rockets killed any enemy infantry (the range was over 100 meters and they're pretty inaccurate at that range, which seems to be a common complaint about these weapons), and my armour killing capability was almost reduced by 30% in mere seconds.

How can I prevent them from using their rocket launchers on enemy infantry?

I was gutted when playing USA campaign scenario 2. I had 2 Javelins wasted by troops firing them at infantry.  I couldn't believe it!  Id used limited fire arks so they didnt take pot shots at light armor in the distance. I wanted to save it for tanks later.  So  when when my  big squad attacked the village with the recon troops in it, it shot a javelin at the officer squad in the trees! WTF. lol. Then next turn it did the same.  In a scenario thats all about armor. I could well have done without this . lol.

Mastiff reacted to Amizaur in time between lasing and shooting
In Steel Beasts (which had opinion of being a very realistic simulation) and western tanks (M1, Leo2)  the time between lasing and shooting could be be  just a fraction of second.
After lasing the gun tube elevation was automatically and almost  instantaneously adjusted by FCS -  so lasing & shooting were almost simultaneous actions - IIRC it usually it took about 0.5s between lasing and shooting.
The target would have absolutely no time to react, it could manage to launch it's smoke grenades but the APFSDS would be on it's way (and it's not guided, doesn't care for smoke).
At least when shooting at stationary targets it was that fast. It could be a little longer if the gynner after lasing had to correct in azimuth against moving targets.
Is it the same in real tanks ? Is it the same in Russian tanks like T-72B, T-72B3, T-90 ?  Never played Steel Bests 2 or SB Pro unfortunately.
IIRC in T-72M (which really didn't have a true FCS) after lasing only the aiming mark moved, so the gunner has to correct gun elevation manually - that could take a while, let's say  2-3 seconds.
