Mord reacted to A Canadian Cat in Nato tactical symbol icon replacements
They are ready. Since there is no repository yet I have attached the .zip files here - they are only 400K or so each.
Here is the key:
I have a mod for the US including Ukraine (both red and blue sides) and a separate mode for the Russians. My eventual plan is to create a Russian tactical symbol set because my preference is to play with the symbols used by the given army. I do not know how long it will take me to get there but it will be a while.

Mord got a reaction from Fizou in Mord's Vehicle Radio Chatter Mod
Pretty much what it says. When you add this to your game you'll get static laden radio chatter coming from all your vehicles (while sitting and moving).
SEE the readme for all the info.
There's regular and Mac versions. Links are after the pic. And if by chance there's a lot of down loads and my bandwidth runs out on Mediafire do what you guys can to help get the files to people that missed out.

Mord got a reaction from Vergeltungswaffe in Kieme's modding corner
Absolutely the smartest and most important thing you can learn while modding. I can't count how many times I neglected to save templates thinking I'd never need them again. I learned that lesson well after redoing the CMBN portraits for like the third time and having to start completely from scratch each time. Now, I have templates with just heads, patches, you name it, so whenever I have to return to it I have a lot of the grunt work already complete. I won't make a mod now without having tons of templates saved for every little thing. It can save you tens upon tens of hours (as you know) having those files pre-made and ready to go...especially if you are updating something.
For anybody new to modding take this advice seriously, it will save you a lot of heartache.
BTW really nice work, Kieme.

Mord got a reaction from Fizou in Beta - HQS 2.1 - Black Sea - Shock Force - Afghanistan
To illustrate waclaw's response a little bit more succinctly, if you say, have a brz or folder named "waclaw's Sounds" and one named "akd's sounds", the one that is furthest down the alphabet chain takes precedent. The game reads the folders/ brz files sequentially. So, whatever files waclaw has that are duplicates of akd's will overwrite akd's because "w" (waclaw) is further down the alphabet chain than "a" (akd). If waclaw only has one sound for a 50. cal and akd has three, waclaw's 50. cal will only overwrite the files that have the same exact name. The beauty of CMX2 sounds (at least as far as weapons effects go) is that it isn't an all or nothing deal. If you like all of akd's stuff and all of waclaw's stuff you could just rename all of the files to play together. In the example above he showed the m4 gun 5 0, m4 gun 5 1, well, you could just rename all of them sequentially and use both mods together if you wanted (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.). Or pick the best of each. It's set up to be definable by taste. As an example; my old CMSF sound files are a mix of every single sound mod that was ever released for the title.
Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Mord got a reaction from Darknight (DC) in Coincidence Or Design?
You guys better completely avoid CMBN, FI, and RT because your delicate sensibilities will completely shattered if you ever play those games. I always get a kick out of the self-righteous manufactured outrage that flows like water nowadays. People live their lives just praying something will pop up and offend them.

Mord got a reaction from Fizou in Any voicemod coming?
Yep. I knew what you meant. My point was if you'd seen those movies enough those particular files would probably draw your ear. The second you hear the wav you are gonna go "Hey, that was such and such, from such and such movie, the scene where this and that happens" which in my opinion would take you out of the moment. The other problem would be getting clean versions without music and movie sounds being part of the clip. And then there's the recording quality compared to other files. Mine, for example, aren't as clean sounding as some clips taken from other games. Like I said, it's all personal preference—what your ears enjoy. Someone could give it a try and see how well it sounds. Madmatt did an SPR mod for CMBO and it was so-so because of a lot of what I listed.
What's up Dietrich? Long time no see.

Mord got a reaction from Fizou in Any voicemod coming?
I could see where that would be kinda cool but a big problem is making everything gel together and I always aim for an overall aesthetic if that makes sense. As far as my voice mods go I try really hard to make the files unobtrusive to the ear. By that I mean, draw you in and immerse you but keep them generic enough that you don't get drawn to any one wav file. Essentially I want them in the background adding to the atmosphere not upfront in your face. If I had say some quotable snippets from movies in there I think it would break the realism. That's just my take on it. Once it's out there people can mix and match to get the best results for their own ears.

Mord reacted to Bahger in The test of a good war game is when you have to take responsibility for your losses when you win
Most war games, including the average-to-good ones, enable the player to rationalise his losses even -- or in fact especially -- when he wins, because it is often possible to blame some or most of them on "game" issues such as faulty LOS mechanics or "cheating" AI. The very rare truly exceptional war game does not allow this because player losses can only be attributed to player error such as flawed tactics, impatience or bad judgement. Without a doubt, IMO, Black Sea falls into the latter category.
In my last QB, leading a group of Blue armour (mainly M3s with a single M1A2 SEP) in the attack against a Red group defending with mainly T-90s, I won a convincing Total Victory on Veteran with ten minutes to spare, having killed all nine enemy tanks and the single "tank killing" vehicle. In almost any other game I would have been gleeful at this result, especially if relatively inexperienced at playing it. However, in this battle, because I was unable to lay off the blame for a single loss of mine (four Bradleys, too many) on iffy game mechanics, I felt the way a r/l commander would, i.e. I experienced a painful sense of responsibility that made the victory less sweet. This is a huge tribute to the game. I lost two vehicles to very high quality enemy AI and the other two purely to player error on my part. In my own mental AAR, therefore, I blamed myself for at least two of these losses and IRL I would have found it particularly difficult to write letters to those next of kin. I felt determined not to let this happen again, and not just to win next time but to do so with at least 25% less attrition.
I have never felt this way, including in previous CM titles. Even in Steel Beasts, a very good sim, I have "rewound" the game when I've been sure that a tank in my platoon or company got killed because bad AI pathfinding led it somewhere I hadn't directed it to go, or an AI TC did not see the attacking unit first when he had the superior relative position on the battlefield. In the eight or so hours I've played in CMBS, I have never yet been able to rationalise failure as the result of being "gamed". Considering how many complex calculations a game like this has to make in order to be consistently realistic, this, I think is the ultimate tribute I can pay to the developers of a superb title. It's why I abandoned CMSF in the first, difficult months of its release and why I will continue to play CMBS for several years to come. ChrisND and his team deserve tremendous kudos.

Mord got a reaction from Reiter in Any voicemod coming?
Thanks, Splinty.
I have something in mind but need the right time to do it. I may actually be able to get some other "actors" involved this time. And if I do get then I'll probably be able to update CMBN's mod as well. But like I said, it's the timing, I live in an apartment attached to my uncle's house so I need to wait until he takes off (which should be fairly soon), I doubt he'd understand all the screaming coming through the walls.

My first encounter with a Tunguska, well screenshots says it all:
Trying to get pay-back, a brave soldier launches a RPG:
It knicks the Tunguska in its wheels and it retreats. In the background, and ATGM-team moves into postition.
The Tunguska spots them and fires a volley that demolishes the wall and the team is shaken, then regroups while remaining unspotted - and fires...
Eat that!
The battle rages on. But with the odds slightly more on my side. Just when I was about to give up hope.
