Yours to LOSE!?!?! Are you crazy? That kind of defensive mindset starting at the top will allow a rot to creep in at the bottom! Your troops will get "bunker disease". Best for everyone if you push Bil off the back edge of the map! Attack!

And you know what bunker disease will lead to?

People will just stand rooted to the spot, unable to leave... It's called Trench Foot.

I thought you were joking, and started a post with other silly joke names about Italy. Then I thought better of it and googled Operation Olive.. Now I firmly believe that should be the official name of the coming expansion

The main problem I see is not that people won't be able to differentiate between gothic line and gustav line, but that both modules will be shortened to CMGL. That will cause confusion, and, I believe, lots of it.

I never read enough about the italian front to find a new, fitting name. From what I remember "Operation olive" might seem appropiate.

I agree. The performance and texture rendering in the game have come a long way since the earliest days of Shock Force. Battlefront well understands their customers don't all own thousand dollar hypermachines, and they've made it a stated goal to steadily improve performance for older computers.
Even if they insisted the "blue bar" idea was delusional, they still put it back in to appease the masses. Try getting that sort of service from a AAA developer!

Aye, I think we've already got the closest we'll get to that in TRPs. Really abstracted, sure, but passing actual spotting information to the player is a bit of a stretch.

I agree, they should flip. I think Bil could plan a lot better the second time around. To be honest though, I'm rooting for Doug to win. I'm a big fan of Bil's, but my record vs Doug is 3-2 in his favor, so him beating Bil will make me look better

CM is like a fine wine, it just gets better with age.

I remember in 2005 when CMx2 was announced, many posters wanted BFC to keep the CMx1 engine and just make a few tweaks. Good thing they did not listen.

No worries, my friend. I took no offence. Just trying to have some fun at your (and Bil's) expense. Hey! I'm a poet!

So, what are you guys going to do if I win? Crown me champion? Or have a Thunderdome style free-for-all?

Joking aside, I'm just glad to still be in the game. This map doesn't really allow Bil to show his prowess. It's pretty much a slugfest, which allows me to have a better chance to win than if this was actually a game that showcased skill.

    Thanks Pete Wenman,

I will give you some feedback (if wanted) when we finish; so far it's very "interesting" - in a nail biting - "OH GAWD WE'RE ALL GOING to DIE" way

Just a comment - I really like the idea of "misleading/flexible" briefings/objectives as this better reflects the reality of combat.

    Anyway back to the game

I think that the article has to be taken with a massive pinch of salt. It strikes me as a string of cliches rather than a serious attempt at historical analysis.

If we are talking about the decisions made in August 44. We have to keep in mind the fact that the logistic planners wanted to open up the ports in Brittany. Therefore, the idea of 3rd Army cutting around behind the Germans and trapping them against the Seine or the Somme was never an option.

Another concern voiced at the time (however rightly or wrongly), was that having 3rd Army advance North to trap the Germans, would have lead to 3rd Army becoming over stretched and therefore quite easily punched through by the retreating Panzers.

Trying to depict it as a choice between a ponderous "Monty" and a gung-ho "Patton" is an insult to our intelligence. And an even bigger insult to Generals Bradley, Dempsey, Horrrocks, Collins etc

Hi fellas. On the phone for several hours. neighbors, police, churches, apartment manager, etc.
The bad news is he was reported to have been injured in some type of motor vehicle accident back around March the officer said.
Then he went to a convalescent hospital but they are unable to tell me anything other than "not listed as a resident at this time"...
Good news: property manager finally answered my 2nd call and she says he is doing well and she'll give him my number to call me.

    akd and Sublime,

I just finished a QB, but it was for CMBS. Way after I was first involved in the leIG 18 and sIG 33 discussion, someone observed that, under certain conditions, the former was apparently firing indirectly. But I'm not talking about a fluke shot. I'm talking about the ability of these weapons to routinely fire at high enough trajectory that a typical map, never mind a CMRT monster, will permit on-map Indirect Fire. What is Rmin for the leIG 18? I raised this question before, and ArgusEye calculated, I believe, ~660 meters. That's short enough range to be able to fit even a very small CM map.

The le IG 18 has variable powder charges, allowing it to do exactly what a howitzer does: deliver fire on reverse slope positions and other targets regular artillery with its lower elevation limits, can't engage. But the leIG 18 can fire at elevations as high as 73 deg, something the howitzers can't quite do (66 deg) do, and the guns can't do at all (50 deg). The sIG 33 can also fire as high as 73 deg elevation and has multiple powder charges.

The two named items are important weapons for the Germans and deserve correct depiction of their capabilities. This true for these weapons in both towed and, in the case of the sIG 33, self-propelled configurations.

    Regards,

    John Kettler

What's crap? You can't argue with the arithmetic. You note I said "potential" spotting checks. The actual LOS calculation isn't, most of the time, run on all those combinations, because there's a precalculated "first guess" for various combinations of observer eyeball and target. But that's all part of a spotting engine getting it down to manageable computational demand.

And their approach recognises one or two orders of magnitude as many things that your asinine, arrogant, idiotic approach wouldn't even begin to think about starting to address. "basic vision radius" just proves you don't know what you're talking about: CM spotting isn't just about distance, it's not even mostly about distance. And still, the game turns out perfectly uncontroversial spotting results in more than 99.9999% of the time when spotting needs to be assessed.

But you're not here to learn. And when we stop feeding you you'll go back under you bridge. So consider this your last supper.

Thanks squat dog for displaying a massive inability to have a discussion without being ridiculously insulting. Have fun with your issues, I refuse to have a conversation at such a childish tantrum throwing level. Ping me in a few years when you have matured a bit.

You are apparently very enamored with your Gaming combat prowess. Kind of reminds me of this.

Not to mention your apparently brilliant coding skills whereby you have singlehandedly told BF how to resolve the game spotting limitations. Kudos to you Mr amazing.

How about snow cut with a much cheaper drug

I'm fairly new here, but I'm starting to understand the stress that Steve and his crew are under, or more accurately, put themselves under. By having the best product of its type in the world, BFC doom themselves to the demands of people who want a perfect simulation. They obviously want perfection- why else would they be here? Alas, perfection is not possible, due to both hardware and manpower constraints. Sure, there's a huge list of awesome additions everyone would like to see, but the BFC staff are Elite Fanatic +2 Leadership, so they are small in number.

Being poor (my chosen occupation is music) I can't buy every single thing that Steve puts out. I'd like to though. However, during my time here I've learned to accept that things happen the way they happen for a reason. If the Bulge comes out and it doesn't have new snow textures- so what? You might argue that it's important, but reality being what it is... is it?

Recap: I'm broke, and some of you have extra copies. Give them to me :D
