Operation Barbarossa Ever Winnable?
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
If Hitler invaded hell, I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil in the House of Commons. Winston Churchill. -

We bought the game to have fun. I play WEGO but wish people who play RT all the best. -
FR HOME mission from Red Thunder (help with tactics)
chuckdyke replied to patrik pass's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Your first party is to locate and make contact. Once the reinforcements arrive you use the DPM LMG to suppress. The Snipers must be on overwatch but close enough to be in contact. Once you capture the first building on the bottom right it is game over for the Germans. They just can't match Soviet submachine gunners. Use the last reinforcements to ambush the troops trying to withdraw. Snipers must be in visual contact with the submachine gunners to take out the Germans exposing from the windows. -
I liked the grenade launchers on the Strykers. My vehicles were hidden behind the crest as much as possible and with shoot and scoot tactics I put on suppression on suspected enemy OP's. I acquired all the Javelins and used them whenever the enemy gave its position away. It didn't all go my way, and I lost a Stryker. Spoiler there are plenty of IED's. In post processing I blend on screen mode to make the graphics lighter. The lost Stryker must have been an IED. Used Screen Mode to make it transparent. The battlefield when it was all over the roads were the danger zones. Against a human player it would be much harder the AI just can't hold its fire.

chuckdyke replied to DownSized's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
Testing is important and spotting, units on 'hide' still spot really well. I found that out by playing against myself on Iron. Using a 2men scout in the hope they spot anything is a waste of time in real life it is not. -

It must be like Hotseat against yourself I do it if I like to test something. I like to know how to use two computer screens or two PC's when we play Hotseat. Now you can't help a peek if we play in this fashion. -

Well put and then you need to find someone who plays on the same level (Warrior, Elite) is the most common and small games only as personal pcs don't seem to cope. Then there are house rules. They need to come up with another multi play system. I like Hotseat and I am fortunate to have somebody who plays once a week. -
Operation Barbarossa Ever Winnable?
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
The difference between a war movie (even the good ones) and RL. Actors look too healthy; I never see a fat German soldier on the newsreels. Supply was the German Achilles' Heel during WW2 and food was the end in Stalingrad. Even in the Far East in peace time. You don't last long if you go native for too long. Even then what you eat is the equivalent of their Christmas dinner. You are correct in regards of food. Oil lubricates modern economies; it was said Israel has the Old Testament and the Arabs have the oil. Men can't live of bread alone. -
Operation Barbarossa Ever Winnable?
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
The threat is was Barbarossa winnable. No, it was not the timetable was Christmas 1941 beyond that the logistics were not available. The joker was Japan. They asked for support against the US and Hitler obliged with the formality of declaring war to the US. But Japan stayed out of the war of Germany with the Soviet Union. Result the counterattack of Zhukov with his Siberian units near Moscow. It was game over after that Blitzkrieg grounded down to a war of attrition. If you like history listen to the people who were there that is where historians get their information from. Now we must listen to all sides not only your local university which get increasingly infiltrated by politicians with their own agendas. -

I think that is the case. I went to my antivirus software and made CM a trusted program. I have never encountered any problems like that.- 23 replies

New (or Restored) Combat Mission Commands
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
That's why I play WEGO I rewind, and I observe what infantry is doing. They shoot from cover if it is available and go prone if they can do it. -
The AP in a tank is to shoot at other tanks. With its MG's and HE it can engage with infantry.

BUG: panther killing sherman through building
chuckdyke replied to stikkypixie's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
If the Panther run out of HE he will shoot AP for area fire it will go through the building and a tank. I did it and the vehicle behind in this case a bocage brewed up. It was a Greyhound and it showed up as a contact icon for the Panther. -
New (or Restored) Combat Mission Commands

It is not what I mean. In case of a tank platoon, you end up with three or more paths. One path would be the outcome with a preset formation. -
New (or Restored) Combat Mission Commands
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
The way to do it would be to regard a platoon of armour as one unit and split up like we do with infantry. I don't worry too much about it worked out a system which works in a reasonable time. -

Operation Barbarossa Ever Winnable?
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Who could predict in 1940 that a year later the US and the USSR would fight on the side of the British Commonwealth? Britain and France were the two superpowers after the armistice in 1918 after 1945 they were, has beens. All part and parcel of the implosion of Europe in the 20th century. -

The European section is OK and it is the entrance to the Black Sea. That's where Churchill's adventure during WW1 took place. -
Operation Barbarossa Ever Winnable?
chuckdyke replied to Probus's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
War and politics, war is foreign policy by different means. Greece is close to Turkey and Turkey was on the Axis side during WW1 and Istanbul is the gateway to the Black Sea. On the other side of the Black Sea is oil and lots of it and it belongs to the Soviet Union. Imagine Turkey on the axis side once again and letting German troops in. The way to the Caucuses is a lot shorter than to Berlin. The Eastern Mediterranean is ignored by war historians, but it was vital. -
And Asterix and Obelix vs the Romans. Magic potions is an issue we have not mentioned lately. All respect I think you were making an appropriate comment.

There is also bore sighting with a terrain feature as reference. I think and it seems the game takes into account the time you spent at a place. 1300 meters indeed is not far.
