  1. The „Fulda Gap“ board game made me stop playing contemporary games.
  2. Was there not at least a „Pacific Theatre“ mod? I vaguely remember something the like. But then, my last “Pacific encounter” was with Steel Panthers and from those days, I clearly remember this scale and Pacific War don’t go well together... Perhaps, if one would go a little smaller. Like in GMT’s Combat Commander series (card driven board games, but brilliant, if you can get into them).
  3. Not really a must have, but there is a mod available, which changes the round unit based into wedge shapes. I find it quite useful, determine the orientation of the units. Especially for infantry, it not always easy to guess in which direction the guys are looking.
  4. That reminds me to a sentence from a Bundeswehr manual for tank reccon units. I don‘t know, if it is still in. A long time ago the Bundeswehr made an effort to remove such non-sense. Anyway, it read like: “The Panzeraufklärer shall make contact with the enemy and engage him successfully.“ I always loved this unconditional antizipation of success.
  5. Lucky you, we had springlike 15 degC. Plus beautiful sunshine, then rain and storm and a little snow. Now it‘s about 15 degC again...
  6. 20“? Nooooo, don‘t! Agree, you don‘t need the flashy 4K stuff, but I am more than happy with a recently bought 2-year old 27“ Full HD screen.
  7. Perhaps a little late, but better late than never. You do not need all previous activation codes. I think for each game, it‘s only the latest version one. But seemingly it‘s not the same for all games. I worked „top down“, but found it a little tedious to find the codes that works. To make a long story short: Good luck, Erwin!
  8. Just completed the “x-Mas procedures” by watching “Merry Christmas”, a French-British-German movie about the “x-mas wonder“ of 1914 once again.
  9. Merry X-Mas and a Happy New Year to all of you guys! And right next to Father Christmas, the CM battles are raging...
  10. Did you get help from the desk? Otherwise, three things come to my mind: - In the thread which Ian gave, is a description how to “install” the activation window. Something like “make a short cut to the CM exe and add “show UI“ to the file name. - your Dad should have a customer account. You will find all purchases and activation keys there. - I had an issue with activation keys when I did my last update, which turned out to be a question of the proper activation sequence. I would have to dig out the details. If you still need help, give me a shout and I‘ll start digging.
  11. Finally, I started to read it. Excellent and shocking. A “must read“ for all war gamers. Especially those, who believe in “realism”.
  12. „We go“ was what brought me to CM. In the good old CMBO days, a friend talked me into trying the demo. At first, I thought “Crap”. Then, I had one of those moments: My StuG hidden behind a building and a Sherman coming up. The StuG had a clear flank shot from, say, 30m. And missed. The Sherman started turning the turret while my StuG was reloading. Gosh, those were exciting seconds. In the end the StuG made it and I was hooked...
  13. Sounds like I struck a deal back then! Call me the “Greatest Dealmaker”! Oops, no, sorry. That position is taken already.
  14. Good choice. For 99 Cents or what it is, one can‘t let it go.
  15. Yeah, was it not British naval doctrine in those days, to be stronger than the next three global players? I don’t think a few Russian ships on the East Coast would have made much of an impression.
  16. Probably not the beginning, but „Wooden Ships & Iron Men“ is at least a classic old WeGo. The first AH version dating back to 1976, I think I remember there was a version from a smaller publisher before that.
  17. I finally started to watch the „The ten days of War“ DVD‘s. Great documentary, indeed. I found it irritating, that they started with an overview of the US involvement in part 1 and then go back to the beginning of the French Indochine War, but ok... Otherwise, of course, the quality of the pictures gives „eye cancer“. After a first try on the big TV, I switched to a small 22“ screen. That‘s more bearable.
  18. Yep, I am one of them. I would rather have only one command “go and do the “needful”. And, of course, an AI smart enough to carry that out.
  19. Being German, I was a little embarrassed, but the truth has to come out...
  20. Now we know what really happend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q-pmKiFZTw
  21. Yep, but I thought of this project here: https://www.google.ch/search?q=ghosts+of+war&client=safari&hl=de-ch&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiA5vWK2LbXAhWBuBoKHfWFDqkQ_AUIEigB&biw=375&bih=553#imgrc=uK3WJLg5E7DEAM:
  22. Great work, indeed. A few years ago, I stumbled across a similar project. Pasting old pics over nowadays photos of the same place. Almost scary to see. Let me see if I find it again.
  23. Ok, I‘ll forgive you. But seriously: I, too, prefer to play with only a few „reliable” opponents. I tried with some others every then and when, but that was mostly unsatisfactying. And, yes, I thought about “The Few Good Men”, too. But then, there was a time, when I played in a Spanish Club, a sort of “Wooden Ships & Iron Men”. But that quickly became too demanding for me. BTW, if anybody is interested in online WSIM: Try “Velmad”. Not much more complicated, but much better. You need some knowledge of Spanish, though.
  24. Interesting, indeed. But honestly, there would be loads of “CM worthy“ African conflicts already now. Like Angola or the Colonial War in Kongo back then. Beautiful terrain, strange mix of forces, Infantry heavy, with a few AFV‘s...
