  1. Hehehe, you are right. There’s a very thin line in between. But I think you know what I mean.
  2. I bought the first one a loooong time ago. I tried it a few times, but never came into the game. Never liked the real time gaming and the graphics were not really thrilling. So, I gave up quickly. Probanly the issue was, that the game scale was not too different from CM. And CM was (and is) simply better. As I remember, the BFC let fade it out quite a while ago.
  3. Patton‘s Best was too „dry“ for me. Somehow, I always had the impression to just satisfy the game mechanics. Which on the other hand may be appropriate. I remember an early WW2 tank simulator, where I had the feeling, all I could do is to drive around, hope to spot something and wait for final impact... Re the „Dark Ages”: Those were the days! Nothing better than watching your opponent crumbling at the table. Ok, surrendering early in a computer game comes close. But that’s a different story. Hm, yes, if you take it very generally. Up Front was kind of a board game without board. I played it only once or twice, but liked it quite much. Bought my own copy years later on Ebay and never played it. The Up Front system was quite popular back then. There are many similar games around (I own three, I think) and it even is still in use nowadays.
  4. Yep, I do that, hm, not often, but frequently. I would not call the results excellent, but normally the stray fire convinces the pixel troops to keep their heads down.
  5. To whom it concerns: This appears to be an interesting new "1 on 1" WW2 tank battle board game developement. Somewhat like the good old AH's "Patton's Best" (Which I tried that a few times, but unfortunately never came to like). However, Tank Duel will be a card driven, multiplayer game with solitaire option. And, of course, looking much better than PB. http://www.gmtgames.com/p-615-tank-duel-enemy-in-the-crosshairs.aspx
  6. Ah, sorry. Seems, we “mis-mis” understood each other. I meant the focus based on some countries current “policy” (if there is any.) You meant the focus on what (you think) it should be.
  7. What do they say in Ireland? „If you don‘t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.“ Let‘s see where the focus is tomorrow. Probably „evil“ Europe.
  8. I would not buy them in a QB and I can’t say that I use them effectively, but flamethrowers are quite devastating against Infantry (if they get a shot fired). So, my “plan” is usually: Hide them near a likely enemy approach and hope, that some soft target comes close and the flamethrower lives long enough to fire once.
  9. Search the forum. That has been discussed about a thousand times. One can’t really say what’s the best. That depends very much on your liking. Since you did not play the BN Moduls yet, you have not seen much of BN anyway. In terms if continuity, MG might be th right choice for you. My personal favourite is CMFI, but I find myself playing much more CMBN, just because the loads of content and (probably) wider acceptance. Otherwise, @sburke summarises it perfectly.
  10. Ah, come on Gremlins are so much 80‘s... Now we have computers to do the same.
  11. I had a chance to experience the “auto shut off” in two cars recently. It shuts off, when you fully press the brake and the car comes to a stand still. When you release the brake, the engine starts again.
  12. You are aware, that the car‘s board computer is shutting the engine off? Guess why they don‘t leave it to the driver. Re the sound effect: Yep, that‘s what I wanted to say. Something triggers something. We can‘t even be 100% sure what sort of sound is intended, or if the noise level has any influence on the game.
  13. Eh, referring to the King Tiger pic’s: When you guys visit the Ardennes, consider visiting the tank museum in Full-Reuenthal, Switzerland. Depending where you come from, it is not that far off. They are repairing (or rebuilding?) a King Tiger there and will probably be busy for another few years. But the project takes shape,
  14. I agree with most of the previous statements. Yes, I too would think that “hiding” is with idling engine. Who of us would turn of his car in front of a traffic light? One question has not been asked: Has the activation of the sound.wav any impact on the game play (or vice versa)?
  15. Well, exactly as described in „Battle Hardened“. Excellent book, btw. Highly recommended in another thread.
  16. Sounds like good basis for a strategic decision.
  17. I played on XP until I upgraded to Win 8.1 about 4 years ago. So, I guess the answer is „Yes“.
  18. Looks like you need to change the focus to Iran now.
  19. Now, that‘s a nice one for me, being an admitting Star Wars fan since Day 1.
  20. I agree. Though, that happens to me mostly with Tigers. Always disappointing to find out once again, that they are as invincible as I would like to have them. Perhaps, I should change expectations after all these games.
  21. Get an old NVIDIA card. Not too long ago, I upgraded my old computer with and old GeForce570. It worked, well, not perfect, but satisfactorily. You can get those old cards for almost no money.
  22. Yep, please go on with your project. I am looking forward to the final product and have the impression, many others too.
  23. Hm, a sentence from a Bundeswehr instruction manual for Panzeraufklärer comes to my mind again: „The Panzeraufklärer seeks contact with the enemy and gives battle successfully.“ Agreed, that was in the 80‘s and the doctrine changed meanwhile. And agreed further, the Bundeswehr Panzeraufklärer in those days were, partially equipped with Leopard tanks, a little more robust, than German WW2 Reccon troops.
  24. . Game-wise, I think I am “infected“ since Ed Wimble’s “Battle of Kölin“, instead of „Kolin”. Many friends warned him not to print it with that title. Otherwise, sorry, but “No“. It‘s more a nasty engineers habit.
