His new PC is significantly better than his old one in every possible way, he just will have a hard time finding applications that actually need that much calculating power.

Stupid comment, there are numerous applications that require high end hardware that goes way beyond that of the average gaming PC. Think of servers, animated 3D art, brute force attacks, etc...

Yeah, i told him that this is not necessarily going to be cost-effective in terms of performace per euro...but he wanted it anyways! He' s the customer, it' s his money, i had fun building it, no problem.

    Absolutely not!

Depends on what you call high end. I mean, the term "killer high end machine" is already that inaccurate and badly defined, there is really no point in argueing a "killer high end machine" and what' s not. But you could have definately built some above average gaming PCs that run contemporrary games at maxed out settings with reasonable FPS.

Anyways, i dont want your destructive comments in my thread. If you have a bad mood take it somewhere else.

Forget it. Judging by what i have read from you in other threads, i think that your intent is most likely to look up the hardware i bought and then tell me that i either bought it for a bad price or that it' s not good or whatever. And even if you wouldnt find anything, you would probably just make something up. I wont support you trying to piss me off.

And even if the next thing you tell me is that i misjudge you, that' s your problem, i neither trust you nor do i like you, bad luck.

I have a small 1 man business where i offer diverse IT services for my customers, and occasionally i build custom machines to the specifications of my customers. Like 4 months ago, i built a PC for a customer with a very large wallet: the budget was 3500€ (~4000$) and i built him a true 1337 machine, using only the best components available on the market. He was so happy with his new PC that he gave me his "old one" as a gift. When he brought me his "old" PC, i only took a quick look inside and i saw some dust, 4 physically small RAM chips, a tiny CPU fan and a graphics card of which i couldnt determine the model because it had its panel ripped off. I thought what i got was the usual used PC: 7 years old, Win XP, 4 x 1GB DDR RAM, Intel Pentium 2, and a GeForce 7000 series graphics card or something like that.

Today i was looking through my stockpile of used PCs because i needed some spare parts, and i took a closer look at the PC i got as a gift 4 months ago. It turned out it' s much better than i thought: 4 x 4 = 16 GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM chips, a 3,5 GHz I-7 2700K with 4 physical cores and 4 virtual cores (8 cores in total), a 750 watt PSU and a GeForce GTX 580. That' s some really good stuff actually. Togather with the mainboard and the tower that' s gaming grade hardware probably worth about 1300€  (1500$) . I would have never bought such expensive components for myself, but i think i will probably add an SSD + a new CPU cooler to the package and use it as my new gaming PC . I am really happy right now, my business isnt going particularily well and i hadnt planned on getting a new PC anytime soon .

Sorry but no one in his right mind would spent 3500€ for a desktop pc (+ the money for you to build it).
"using only the best components available"...you mean all the greatly overpriced stuff nobody actually need ?
I actually doubt his new pc will be that much better then the old one...
He could have just updated his old one for 500€ and would have a killer pc.
What did he say, what will he do with his pc...casual pc stuff and gaming ?
Did you recommend him to spent less money initially but he refused ?

Sounds like you had a hard time spending all 3500€ on just one desktop pc, you could have build 3 killer high-end machines with that money...

agusto reacted to John Kettler in Saudi Arabia goes to war in Yemen! New options for CMSF!
I came across this in the sidebar for the recent successful RAF Reaper strike on some sort of ISIS tracked AFV. The Houthi have now killed what appear to be 2 x Saudi tanks, evidently M60s. Image positioning suggests in at least one engagement the victim was attacked from the rear quarter. Action is a bit confused because of the way things are presented, something else is shown, then the original matter is revisited, but from a different angle. Things to see include the ends of the tanks, apparently intact survivors fleeing, Houthi infantry advancing and firing. Anyone who wonders why the AI manages to zero in on shoulder fired AT weapons needs to see this, for while the men in the robes are rather like blobs in the rough terrain, the linear nature of the launch tube makes it really stand out in a world with very few things which are straight. In this case, the problem is worse, since they tubes are those of RPG-29s, I believe.

DISCLAIMER: i am not promoting hamachi,if you know some better software with clean and simple interface ,ditch hamachi

i'd keep it simple, concrete points without unnecessary stories

1.throw 120 dollars on 1 hamachi 252 slot room which would last 1 year (12 months)

2.make a youtube video promoting it (nothing special), no need for hollywood effects or get some fanboy to make it

2a   ask diplex heated to promote it in one video or someone who has lots of views, or better, ask everyone you know

    3. post a sticky thread about it get people to talk about it

4.get some people to manage the network for free (like theres anything to manage really,a 10 year old could do it)
you would spend 120 dollars and few hours of your time and will probably get a large (for our non mainstream universe anyway) multiplayer comunity for Real time and Wego* (course, pbem wont be banned there,it ll boost pbem aswell) games

and those who want to play real time or wego, will get the actuall channce to play

i guess it would boost the community aswell

    Wiggum15,

A small piece of advice. It's free, so it's worth exactly what you value it. You ask a lot of questions, but you cloak them in criticisms. Some criticism is constructive. Yours is not.

A point: "Then why dont they hire new people with better skills ?" (That's from you, just a few posts up.) I don't care about the rationale behind the statement, just the statement per se.

    - You are on a forum paid for by BFC. They are a small company. The money to support this forum is money which is not going to get a muffler replaced. It is money which is not going to replace that old furniture they got when they got married. It is money which is not going to buy a better Christmas gift for their daughter. It is money, literally, out of their pocket.
    - Other companies support forums. Other companies have a far greater budget. Yes, $1,000 is valued differently. Ford (or Daimler) would think nothing of a $1,000 expenditure. How about you?
    - You are a guest. As am I. If I went on Intel's forums and demanded that they use AMD cpu's, I would (probably) be banned. Rightfully. As a guest in someone's home I act with deference and civility to my host. But maybe my concept of civility differs from yours.
    - Your statement, above, presupposes several insulting assumptions.
-- BFC doesn't have sufficient skill. There are, what, six BFC employees? Just name them and state they are incapable of creating a game the way it should be done. Your passive aggressiveness would at least transcend to outright aggressiveness. It would be more honest that way.
-- Other people do have the right skill. ("You can't do it, but someone else can." That's more insulting than just saying "you can't do it.")
-- BFC (again, just name the decision makers; it's simpler) is too ignorant to recognize the need to hire other people.
-- BFC is too cheap to hire other people with better skills. The assumption is that the budget is there, BFC is just hording the money.
-- Other people with those skills exist (that is a foundation of your initial insult)
-- Your idea of how a game should be created is better than BFC's idea
-- Your idea of how to run a game company is better than BFC's idea

Now, that's a pretty surface level dissection of your insult. I, for one, do not take anything you write seriously.

I suggest, again for free, that you consider criticisms a bit more before you make them. It is easy to criticize that which you have no idea how to do. That demeans you, as your posts here have done. If you had created a company and successfully released several games, your criticisms, as insultingly as they are delivered, would have some validity. As it is, they have no validity and are merely insulting.

    Regards,
    Ken
