I think a military person already said the way reinforcements show up in this way is not right...on the first page.  So there is that.

Right now, my immediate environs allow me to have LOS from 40 to 2,000m. Behind me (the 40m zone), are my buddies and a huge support organization. My rear is secure.

If, in the next instant, a dozen tanks and 100 infantry were to appear within hand-grenade range, I would be a'mazed. Magic.

It is a game limitation, atm, not a feature. IMHO.

Ken, yes. Scenario briefing hints would be nice. ~Or warnings given of the approach of enemy forces approaching. Often that would happen in ther real world. But smetimes the boys and girls in Military Intelligence just miss something or the enemy does something unexpected in the wider tactical and operational environment. Sometimes your pickets are destroyed before they can report in or they just fail to spot the enemy approach. Maybe they were in the wrng place r looking the wrong way. Sometimes commanders just get suerprised. It has happened on countless occasions throughout military history. That's why we have flank and rear security considerations. And, as I found out today, air defence positioning is of great importance.

In this game you step into the combat boots of a Combat Team or Battalion Commander. These ssues are what goes with that pay grade. It is your job to anticipate whaat the enemy might do and to be ready for the contingency even with little or no warning. That is the nature of the beast. This game in particular teaches some very harsh lessons about real war and, indeed, so it should

When the unsplit squad is small you sometimes don't have enough good scout candidates to choose from. In the case of the Russian recon squad there are six men, but only one of them is ideal for the job. You have 4 guys armed with AKs. Two of them are the squad leader and the assistant squad leader, and a third is the radio operator. So you have one AK guy as your first scout then take your pick between the SVD and the PKP.

Here's something to give you a chuckle.
In the editor in Flavor Objects is a listing for 'posters'. In the WWII titles they're mostly filled with propaganda posters. Not exactly appropriate for modern times. So a selection of fake Ukrainian billboards were made. Everything from UN observer force notices to government emergency decrees to Chinese and Italian food, karaoke and rock concert advertisements! The smattering of roman text among the Cyrillic means these are most suitable for the environs around Kiev. You can't say we didn't try to being you modern Ukraine!

AkumaSD reacted to akd in AKD sound mod (all inclusive)
As promised, here is a BETA version of my sound mod combining all previous work into one universal mod for CMx2 titles. There may also be a few small updates since my last release, but don't expect big changes if you have previously used my mod in CMSF or the WWII titles. There are specific modules for modern sounds so you can pull them out for the WWII titles, although any problematic overlaps should be minimal.

Hope it helps with enjoyment of Combat Mission: Black Sea! I am very proud to have participated in development of this title. Black Sea is one of BFC's best yet.

I noticed that if I clicked on the name of the file above the actual download button, I'm taken to a different looking download page, which then gave me 7mb speed. It failed many times before I clicked on that link. I should be playing it in 3 mins! Not sure if it was all coincidence, there could be no difference between the link and the download button. Worth a shot.

I've gotten a couple of these tickets so far. If you were one of them, please go into your ticket and give the information for both purchases. Neither of the tickets that I received mentioned that they had repurchased the correct version, in addition to buying the wrong one. We handle these differently.

sales support is likely to get less attention today than the help desk.  Steve etal are much more likely to get word of your problem at the help desk faster, but you can do both.

And we don't get why you are having a hard time wrapping your head around this. This is not a release of a video of downtown abbey preordering does not give you a date. There is absolutely no difference between an electronic preorder and ordering the day it is announced. Get over it. Pre orders are made for orders that require special effort printing and packaging. Electronic downloads require nothing so there is no pressing reason other than your angst to do so.

...and those of us who didn't want to waste a manual, a box, and Battlefront's time....get to wait for who knows how much longer because there's no preorder for digital.  How does this make sense again?  I'm ready to pay ahead of time, more even, but because I don't like to waste people's time and resources, I have to settle for second best?  Seems like a pretty shabby way to treat a customer who has spent upwards of $300 with Battlefront and bought multiple copies of the same game (in some cases because unlike Steam, Battlefront won't "store" your generic game file for you, that's on you.) Hope I get to download it today, or I'm not going to be very happy.  I still think this model is about 10 years behind the times.

I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation for why this is.   Would pure-digital preorders be more work to manage?  It seems like the opposite.  Ok, so pre-orders are to manage materials cost -- but what does that have to do with taking my money early and putting me in the "Don't need materials sent" column?

Time is money, and I have spent a lot of time (and my time is valuable these days) checking the site and boards for the latest vs. doing other things in my life.  I can't get a courtesy e-mail for download... because I don't want to do a preorder and throw away a box, a disc, and a manual my house doesn't need taking up space.  I don't even use the optical drive on my PC anymore -- that's 90s tech.  Everyone else is pure digital.

Well.  Analog CMBS so far is pretty good.  Turns process slow, and the graphics are crap though.  Terrain is suspiciously flat.

Preorder is not a feature for you but for them. Its a common method to gauge level of interest and estimate the amount of product that needs to be printed/burned before release date. Without use of preorders they might release the game only to discover they had printed-up half the manuals they needed, or twice the number. As the industry shifts to download purchase then the preorder customer interest estimate becomes less necessary. I can't recall, there weren't any preorders for CMBN vehicle pack, right?

And BFC doesn't control overseas shipping costs. That's kind'a a governmental thing.

BFC should really change to that scrum model... just for the fun of seeing the forum explode in vitriolic hate as every one explains why HIS feature is the most important and should be implemented next!

Customers don't know what they want (me included). Its BFCs job to find out what enough people want to pay for their time.
Supposedly it was Henry Ford who said: 'If I had asked my customers what they wanted they would have said a faster horse.'
