Alright BF, you win again. Take my money. Ordered fire and rubble also. I don't know how i'm going to have the time, I hope the engine 5 improvements are bananas.

Played final FB. A Jeep can reach every HQ inside a minute. Often it is the fastest way to pass on Intel. Scouts spot enemy, he needs to contact his HQ. His HQ to the Company HQ the to the Bat HQ. 3 minutes gone if the radios work. Drives to HQ next turn the HQ has the contact Icons. Vehicles need to be open and 30 meters distance .

Solution 1 works as it is advertised

Here is a edited scenario, I put one Recon Co. (bmp) and one Tank Co. on the map.
    WEGO mode, Iron difficulty
    Pic 1
beginning of the game, no one knows what is on the other side

    Pic 2
Recon Inf disembark and moving forward

    Pic 3
Beginning of the turn. Recon Inf under heavy fire immediately. They can ID couple M1A2 on the other side of the map. the Recon Plt leader, who is sitting in the BMP 10m behind, begin to yell in the radio about enemy contact

    Pic 4
50s into the first turn, Recon Company commander got the report from his plt leader, he begin to distribute the information, first he tell this to his commanding vehicle crews.

    Pic 5
at the same time, the Tank Company commander still knew nothing.

    Pic 6
but in less than 5 seconds, he saw the Recon Co. commander waving hand and yelling at him. then He got the update that there are a lot of enemy on the other side

    Pic 7
when 1st min ends, the 1st plt of the Tank Company still don't have a clue.

    Pic 8
But his commander's warning get through radio net at 2:43

    Pic 9
one of Plt leader's subordinate quickly got the update from him

    Pic 10
the other one is a slow boy, he has hard time to understand what's going on.

Anyway, by the end of Min 4, every Syria units on the map got the news . "American Tanks are coming!"

Not sure if CM takes into account gun elevation angles.  You may simply have encountered one of those weird CM LOS issues where one is sure the unit can see a target, but in the game it cannot.

This BETA game is being played against Warren (The_Capt), and we are very familiar with each other’s style, strengths and weaknesses as we’ve been playing CM against each other for close to 20 years now.
CM Cold War was our brainchild and has been on our wargame design table, off and on, for eight years now, but now it is a real thing.  You’re welcome.    With that said it is only fitting that Warren and I play in this BETA AAR.  We haven’t played in public since our original CMBN BETA AAR, Not your Father’s Combat Mission.
I hope you enjoy the ride, and welcome to the COLD WAR!!

Sidebar!  I strictly use the Movie Mode when I play so all of my screenshots use that feature.  I don't mean it to insult anybody, but I just think the game looks better.
Meeting Engagement at Dolbach Heights, 1980
When Warren and I laid out the design for this game we wanted it to be primarily and ultimately a sandbox for experimentation and reflection.  A tool to test the tactical theories that were prevalent at that time.  Time… yes, we also wanted to be able to examine the different sides from different time perspectives, and this release, the base game in the CM Cold War series, contains the years 1979 to 1982.  We also only cover the months March to October, mainly so we didn’t have to generate winter textures and models which would have been one feature too many.
This particular scenario is one that Warren and I threw together that we thought would be fun to play and show off.  The map is from the US Campaign and when you play that you will see this map eventually.  I will start my METT-T analysis in my next post, but for now, sit back, enjoy the existence of this game, and don’t go away!

CM Cold War takes place on the cusp of big changes happening to both the American and Soviet armies. The arrival of Abrams and Bradley changes the nature of the fight in Europe. Also in this time frame we get a fashion change! See attached, the Americans switching to battle dress uniform. This is new-new art that's still not in the current Beta so you won't see it in any of the posted screenshots. Please forgive my crappy graphics card.

purpheart23 reacted to puje in New Afghanistan inspired campaign: Valleys of Death
After months in the making, I have finally completed my campaign Valleys of Death. It turned our to be quite an ambitious project, with 11 missions!
The campaign revolves around a US Army light infantry company, manning a remote combat outpost in an Afghanistan inspired terrain.
Unlike classic CMSF, which highly favors shock and awe and maneuver warfare, Valleys of Death deals with the issues of small units operating in a clearly defined AO. This means that, like in real life, you will conduct operations on the same map many times, with each mission focusing on different areas and objectives. By the end you will come to know the area very well, and this knowledge is key to defeat the enemy.
    Features:
11 missions     A large 2X2 km map and 2 additional maps     Modern counter-insurgency infantry combat     Heavily inspired by Afghanistan related media (Restrepo, Taking Fire, etc.)     Base game, no modules needed

purpheart23 reacted to Freyberg in North Italy QB maps
I've been working on a series of QB maps - starting with large-huge base maps, which I am slicing up, adding AI plans, to make QB maps of various sizes.
It's still in progress, but I have been quite pleased with the latest base map, around 2.5km square, of rolling cropland. There is lots of patchy scattered cover, but also frequent avenues of long-range LOS. I found the result of this latest one quite picturesque...

The land descends gently from the north, through gently rolling fields.

As it descends, there are occasional low escarpments, offering views of the surrounding countryside.

Scattered amongst the fields, there are one or two patches of open woodland.

Spend the afternoon wandering pretty shaded paths.

The roads are generally good in this part of Italy.

And here and there are some delightful Italian farmhouses and farm complexes.

Some of them are quite modern.

    Others with a historical feel.

For the well-heeled businessman, or an ex-GI flush with looted Nazi treasure, enjoy a stay in this charming part of Italy...

I'm sorry your standards are that low. The game has stagnated features wise and is far from a complete battlefield simulation. I never said I spoke for the community but since you quoted me I'm assuming that's what you're saying. Notice the emphatic and repetitious use of "I" in my posts. Then take note of all of the other wish list threads in all of the game forums here on the Battlefront forums and you'll see a trend of features that have been repeatedly asked for by the community.

I'm not offended. I'm just used to people white knighting anytime critique is leveled at the company, there's a pretty broad history on these forums of it some of it necessary for unruly posters some of it not.  I understand your concerns about the micro management and I'm definitely not advising for more features that need to be player handled necessarily. I'm looking for broader options, like the ones I stated in my earlier post and maybe a multiplayer browser added also. Y'know some QOL stuff. Does anybody really like opening ports for a game anymore, sure it's not difficult but come on, it's 2021. No offense, sorry I got a little defensive, I just assumed you were making it out like I speak for the community which I most certainly do not. I just know what I want.

Hey please don't get offended - I'm not having a go at you
I just picked your message because you were commenting along the lines of what a group of really hard-core users have asked for, which is totally cool and that's your right.
I'd just like to make the point that for some of us, the gamesters, more micro-managing is not a feature we would like. I think the balance is good, and I like the level of clicking about where it is now.

Wish list revision 1:  I wish they would improve their 15+ year old game engine to allow for the stuff the community wishes for.
I understand the limitations as set forth by the devs, but this is a wish list thread, and if we don't ask for things they'll never know we want therm. I'd like Co play, which was actually mentioned in the original shock force manual a decade and a half ago. The engine was built to support it per the devs. It was nixed however somewhere along the way when they decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. So it's their product they can do what they wish with it, but that doesn't mean I don't get to critique it in a civil way and ask for features to be added no matter how dead the horse I'm beating is.

Valid point. I suppose I was triggered by the reference to the rudeness by T*****. My apologies to you @purpheart23. I do like these wish list threads actually. OK I like the ideas, not the frequent use of passive aggressive phrasing that shows up in a variety of posts but honestly that should be water of a ducks back - so - I have work to do.

Exactly, we keep getting reskinned and reorganized content but can't get features that have been wanted for what, closing in on 15 years?
Edit: Before everybody goes crazy, I know new units have been added. I know the dev team is small. I also know that if this game wasn't so niche it would've died a long time ago.

Strategic Layer(dynamic campaigns), Co play, fire, repeat commands for IDF shortening response times, aircraft modeled when appropriate, improved pathfinding, command delays for the initial waypoint of a move with added waypoints just adding to the initial delay, fix the spotting issues specifically instances where you can see just under half of the face of a building but can't area target it due to it's action spot being unseen. That's it for now.

    A New Hope

The main roads are mined. The Battlegroup detours into the side streets, only to encounter road blocks and ambushes.

The ground shakes as a VBIED detonates -- prematurely.

Direct assaults proved costly and slow. The Battlegroup focuses on the weak flanks of the Fedayeen.

The Fighters' flank is devoid of IEDs or mines. The few defenders give way to concentrated firepower.

Nasri is now under surveillance. An Apache is called-in to beat the enemy into submission.
