On the correct usage of Spies.

Poor C2 is something that comes with the territory, but uncons do get a major advantage in the form of civilian agents who can blend into the local population. Here are a couple of thoughts of how to make the best use of them.

These spotting contact can be spread by runners, but are more efficiently spread by creating networks of three man spy teams, within shouting distance of each other, combined with horizontal sharing between these teams.

A very inefficient example below, to illustrate the point:

In this case, team 3 has a node which is able to horizontally share to the HQ units of the three uncon groups - these will run back into C2 with their groups and share their contacts where appropriate.

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to Heirloom_Tomato in Unit unable to move
@Badger73 When I looked at the turn @stikkypixie sent me, I was able to see right away the Stryker was sitting in rocky terrain. I loaded the scenario in the editor and then went to the deploy blue screen. I moved the unit in question one action square over and then tried to put it back. The game would not let me put it back into the original position as the terrain is impassible to vehicles. The only explanation that made any sense was a terrain change made after the units had been deployed as there is no way the original scenario creator would have been able to deploy the unit there in the first place.

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to Heirloom_Tomato in Allah's Fist Scenario Terrain Issue
There is a minor issue the scenario Allah's Fist. It appears when a reinforcement arrives in impassible terrain and remains stuck for the remainder of the scenario. I have moved the unit in question over 1 action square and now it is able to move freely. Here is a link to the updated scenario:

I will pass this up the chain of command and hopefully it can be included with a future patch for CMSF2.

It's absolutely stonking stuff lads, trust me.....I laughed myself silly a couple of times, like when a dude I was trying to bust ran straight through the middle of my teams and by the grace of his Uncon powers got past them all, leading to a classic foot pursuit through alleys & across gardens!  He ultimately managed to get away, diving into his exit location just as a squad car screeched to a halt outside!

The working title is Shift Commander .  It has a loooong ways to go and some technical issues to overcome yet.
Situation:  It’s the afternoon shift on July 1st, 2008 in the fictional American city of Chiraq.  You are the commander of the Hill Street Police Precinct.  Your command consists of patrol, detectives, an Emergency Action Team (EAT) and air support.

CMBN 4.0 Patch Has New QB Maps.  They are easily identified by "2019" in the Map name.  I took a good run at the bocage maps and personally enjoyed the game play with them.  There are a few maps devoted to the Rhone Valley of Southern France. So river crossing and Hills.

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to GloriousRuse in 30mm Strykers...get some
The decision was actually born out of analyzing the Donbass. They found that armored battle taxis like BTRs had an unfortunate habit of ending up in situations they weren't "supposed" to be in, and when that happened the guy with a cannon won. Sometimes this was command ineptitude. A lot of time it was the reality that both sides are trying to kill each other very hard, and that is going to create situations where "APCs that aren't IFVs" are suddenly in direct combat.
They also verified that light automatic cannon, even in limited quantities could strip the infantry off an armored attack by killing their APC/IFV rides. On the defense it wouldn't stop the dismounted squads from fighting locally, on a macro-tactical level it was pretty effective at blunting breakthroughs. On the attack, this meant that "APC" style units could be stopped up cheaply unless they had cannons of their own.
Hence "lets put a cannon on two strykers in each platoon." Design side, it was an upgrade in firepower without sacrificing mobility or armor. Organizationally, there was already a personnel cost to keeping a gunner up. Now the gunner just mans a 30mm. Training wise, expenses go up.
As to why not buy a whole bunch of LAVs or foreign models for license production? Well, maybe with foresight. In what the US had though, they had already bought nine brigades worth of these vehicles.  Far cheaper to drop on 30mm conversion kits than to change out a fleet that is roughly the size of the entire UK and Canadian army's mech inventory.

Just opened the stock (I think) scenario 'Panzer Marsch!' at random, to test the new patch.....It doesn't look like what you are playing by any means, but apparently it's based on the same historical scenario?

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to Aurelius in Do shared contact markers lead to faster spotting times?
    To elaborate further:
Some years ago, inspired by that C2 & Information sharing post, I did some tests in Battle for Normandy and it mainly concerns vehicle spotting . I made a small map in editor, put some German forces in a forest (Pak40 and some MG's and also one infantry squad), put an American scout team in another forest to observe the Germans. One Sherman tank was placed on the map and I made sure that there was no way for it to observe the Germans or the scout team. I also made sure that there was no radio contact between the tank and the scouts.
With that set up I tested the spotting times and it was pretty conclusive. When the scout spotted German positions, I ran him to the tank, waited until the info was passed (waited a full turn). Then I moved the tank forward so it can have LoS on the forest occupied by Germans. When they were unbuttoned/opened up, they spotted almost instantly (less than 2 seconds). When they were buttoned up, they spotted in less than 5 seconds.
I also did some tests with no info sharing, unbuttoned came to about 10 seconds for the spot and I was under the impression that the crew tac-ai prioritized spotting AT positions. Buttoned up was above 10 seconds and I didn't really test it that much, cause I felt like I was just asking for someone to come and burn my tank.
    So this was my conclusion:
Unbuttoned with previous knowledge>buttoned with previous knowledge>unbuttoned with no previous knowledge>buttoned with no previous knowledge.
So guys, make sure your AFV's have the information, unless you want them to end up like 131st Separate Motor Rifle Brigade in Grozny.
