Sgt.Squarehead reacted to IICptMillerII in United States vs Russia capability questions
The Army isn't struggling to recruit so much as it is growing at a slightly slower rate than was planned for. The Army is still growing though, and is on target to meet its recruiting and retention goals this year. Further, the US economy is extremely strong right now, meaning the job market is very good. This usually means that young people have many more options when it comes to getting a well paying job, which tends to result in fewer overall recruits going into the Army, or military in general. The fact that the Russian economy is in such poor condition that one of the only well paying jobs on can get in Russia is joining the army is not a good thing.
Generally speaking, no its not. For similar reasons why Desert Storm was not a good "proxy performance" to Soviet forces in Germany during the late Cold War. Same goes for various export models of famous (or infamous) tanks and their performance or lack thereof in contemporary conflicts.
This argument has been had too many times on this forum already. Both sides get speculative equipment. I'm fine with taking away the US speculative equipment, as long as Russia loses its as well. Also, the XM25 (the modern grenade launcher I think you are referring to) was combat tested and proven in Afghanistan and was going to be aquired by the US Army in bulk. However, 2012-2013 were not kind to the defense budget, and the acquisition was scrapped due to a lack of funds for it, not because it was some prototype that never got built. It can also be toggled off in the editor, so if you really don't want it you can swap it out for the more conventional M320's.

I could not get this to happen in the Roadblock scenario no matter what combinations I tried, in multiple attempts. However in the Scottish Corridor first scenario, it's pretty consistent, in two places. I related this in the beta forum with a idea of what is happening and how to reproduce so that someone besides just me can check. Also, I'm on a Mac. Occasionally Mac vs. PC makes a difference. In this case I would bet it doesn't. It's a logic thing, not graphics.
Posting this here so that people know that when something like this gets posted, it does get looked at right away, reproduced, and acted on (acted on for right now would be posting a bug report to the database).  It appears to be some specific sets of circumstances to me. But that's why others need to verify it. I could also be wrong 🙂
Saved game files REALLY help, if it's something reproducible so that you can get a save. That way we can compare the save to us running it fresh.  In this case it was much easier to see what was happening by running it myself at Basic Training level, because I could see all the Germans and what was happening to them.

It is a greatly expanded version of George MC's Circle the Wagons map. I started the map for the 10th, but hell the 4th, 101st and Marines were all around there and likely others as well.  Technically I should be using the 4th ID but I just happened to be looking at reviews of None Left Behind- the 10th Mt in the Valley of Death.  What started me though was a story in the Military History Institute publication Tip of the Spear (free by the way- https://history.army.mil/html/books/iraq/TotS/index.html).  I have to quote the beginning as it makes for a great opening scenario.

Musayyib, a majority Shi’ite city of about two hundred thousand located sixty kilometers south of Baghdad, reflected many of the divisive issues that arose in Iraq after the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s regime. On Saturday evening, 17 July 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq targeted the town as part of a regional wave of suicide attacks. A propane tanker truck exploded in a fireball just as shoppers crowded a marketplace and worshippers departed an adjacent Shi’ite mosque. A hundred civilians perished in the inferno, making it one of the deadliest terrorist operations up to that point in the conflict. Angry crowds blamed local authorities for not doing enough to prevent the horrific attack, while national legislators criticized the prime minister for repeated failures by Iraqi security forces.
Moqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mahdi militia to begin patrolling neighborhoods, calculating that he would garner popular support by doing so. The Baghdad government responded to the bombing by replacing the city’s chief of police with Col. Ahmed Mijwal, a Shi’ite.  The colonel would prove to be a corrupt official who did little to soothe tensions between the religious sects. He was soon competing with Sadr’s militia for money and influence. The two sides eventually clashed over the receipts from the gas station located in Tahir, a suburb of Musayyib. The urban area straddled the Euphrates, with Tahir on the western bank and Musayyib across a bridge to the east. Mijwal had assigned Mohammed Jassim, a Sunni who served with him in Hussein’s army, to collect a share of the money at the end of each day. The militia, which was also extorting money and free gasoline from the station’s owner, apparently was incensed at a Sunni interfering with a major source of revenue.
On the morning of 22 July 2006, the Mahdi militia snatched Jassim from the gas station. The kidnappers encountered a police patrol as they drove back to the mosque in Musayyib that served as their headquarters. The gunmen disarmed the Iraqi police and disabled their patrol vehicle by firing several rounds into the engine. Learning of the incident, an incensed Colonel Mijwal stormed over to the mosque to confront the militia leaders.  After trading heated comments for a few minutes, Mijwal reportedly blurted out: “If you mess with me, I’ll have the Americans bring this mosque down on your head!”
His words were more prophetic than he knew. Just then a patrol from Company D, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor, 4th Infantry Division, led by 2d Lt. C. Ryan Kelley, was en route to Tahir to teach Iraqi police officers the finer points of manning a roadside checkpoint. As the American patrol neared its destination, Sgt. Stanley R. Sneathen overheard shots coming from the east. Kelley decided to detour to investigate...….
and away we go  It is just begging for a scenario probably named Kelley's Heroes, but then we'd have to have a bank.

My dad absolutely hated Major Frank Burns. Actually, my dad hated officers period. My dad fought in the Pacific as a Navy Seabee. When they got home he had to stay aboard the transport ship to make sure that all the construction equipment was off-loaded properly. One day, he was coming down the gang-plank and this young Ensign told my dad to get out of the way as he was boarding the ship. My dad was a Senior Chief Petty officer and you DO NOT speak to a Senior Chief that way unless you are at least of Lieutenant Commander rank. So what did my dad do? My dad saluted him and then he showed this arrogant young punk (who never served a moment in combat) how to dive off the plank and into the drink. Yep, my dad threw the Ensign into the water between the ship and wharf. My dad was busted down to a Second Class Petty Officer and was immediately discharged. Luckily, he was not court-martialed.😎

Eugen games are a completely different scale, and marketed strictly as RTS games. Love them, but they're completely different genres. I'd say Graviteam is closer to being the competition. They focus on early/mid Eastern Front, North Africa and Cold War. BFC is focusing on different theaters/time -- especially, the ones that they are passionate about. Speaking of which...

Well we can provide the tools...
...but, ultimately, it will be the scenario designers who will be the most important part in making Heaven & Earth a unique experience.
If there are any scenario designers interested in making a scenario (from tiny to huge), for the public release, then don't hesitate to PM me as the mod package is coming along well now.
I'm no scenario designer so I'll probably just contend myself to converting a few scenarios like Operation Barras.

Don't know if you have CMSF2 or any interest in the modern titles.  CMSF2 has Fighter and Combatant triggermen that are single man teams and have grenades.  These single man teams can be purchased as such and added to a command structure.  The unconventional fighter and combatant groups have the option of a one man HQ (1, 2 or 3 man HQ is the option at the bottom of the editor screen).  So if you wanted you could have all one man teams in the TOE to include the HQ organized under a fighter or combatant group for C2 / TOE purposes.  Then you could still use vehicle drivers that also have grenades (often only one grenade per driver).
Next with mods and weapon swaps you can give your single man units a customized look.  Below are some screenshots from the WIP scenario Shift Commander which features many single man units.
The first two screenshots are before and after mods.

And a modified taxi fighter driver.

while I generally like bits of all the randomness in the game, the 50% headcount issue is one to me as well for a particular case. I tend to use snipers (teams) in my missions more oftenly, particularly in AIP hands. Yet I want a single guy and get rid of the spotter in that team for stealth and better, more flexible in tile positioning. Otherwise the spotter might take just that most preferable window position (building example) that allows the actual sniper to have perfect LOS/LOF to that most desired keyholed enemy map area. Also a two men team gets more easily and quicker spotted by any enemy no matter the range. So more oftenly than not the random reappearance of the spotter in a set 50% crew strength team somewhat defeats my various AIP optimization purposes.

I'm assuming the headcount functionality was coded for a formation wide scale and has some play in it. In this case though it seems rather bizarre that 50% can actually net you 100%. I wonder if that is true for large squads? Would 50% of 10 men ever get you 60%? Its even weirder given that the options for different reductions are available and ostensibly seem rather granular, and you would think that granular choices would be expected --- but then they just aren't.

I ran into this issues a few years back when doing Squad Battles series in Red Thunder. I took CMX2's 1:1 idea to its logical endpoint and created several scenarios where each man was his own unit. Using the current command structure system but scaled for Company as the largest unit.  I had a few testers but this coincided with me becoming too busy to do much scenario making and having to drop the concept. In total I made 2 or 3 scenarios. The teams issue was a bit of a pain for me, but I switched to primarily using truck drivers and such since they guaranteed single man units unfortunately they lacked grenades. Since I was also doing reinforced platoon to company scale I could also stomach far more two man teams where it made sense (lmg, anti-tank, etc...). It played surprisingly well.

Its too bad we don't have single man units within the editor OOB for each faction. That would open up a lot of interesting scenarios without all the fiddling around.
