  1. All I can say is.....'Goat Simulator'. http://www.goat-simulator.com/
  2. I'd go for RT.....Different front, different units, different style of warfare. Some of the stock RT maps are pretty epic too.
  3. That image looks to be slightly later in the flash sequence.....It shows the secondary flash, with (comparatively) low pressure spent propellant exiting the muzzle some time after the round has departed, in the original Abrams photo you are seeing the primary/intermediate flash, the round is very possibly still in shot and the gasses are still at a much higher pressure (the Wiki article I linked to earlier explains the sequence quite well).
  4. There are some interesting (& verifiable) facts in that article, but the conclusions drawn suggest the author has a distinct political agenda.
  5. Actually the more videos I watch the less the game appeals, the idea is great but the implementation is awful.
  6. That game is very tempting, but the 'Golden Knight' is clearly a total wuss.....Had those chickens dosed their beaks with Curare or something? Ah.....Know I know why those chickens were so hard: They were obviously trained by their ally.....Chuck Norris!
  7. Shock Force is actually set in a fictional invasion of Syria.....It's the oldest of the current titles and thus the simplest at its core. On the other hand there several official Modules which greatly expand the game and an enormous amount of user generated content, much of it first rate. Shock Force with all the modules is still a very good investment IMHO.....If you want a modern game with plenty of scope this one (with all the modules) is the way forward IMHO. Combat Missions: Afghanistan is quite cheap, slightly more sophisticated than Shock Force and it is currently the best engine for modern unconventional warfare scenarios.....If the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan and/or the Warlord Period that followed interests you this is the way to go (but you might needs to get familiar with the editor to get the scenarios you really want). Black Sea is by far the most sophisticated of all the games but it's quite limited in scope.....If the conflict in the Ukraine (and a potential future expansion thereof) interests you, this is the one for you. Recent posts from officialdom suggest that Combat Missions: Shock Force II may be at least somewhat imminent.....So you may want to hold your decision for a little while.
  8. Very plausible.....I've got a couple of books on 79th AD ('Vanguard of Victory' & 'The Story of 79th Armoured Division'), can have a look through them, but it could take me a while.
  9. Pretty sure there's been another found more recently than that.....I'll have a poke about see if I can find the article/link/photo, whatever.
  10. Mali gets a brief mention here: https://warisboring.com/time-to-avert-climate-wars-is-running-out/ The UN Peacekeepers have a very 'distinct' look: The whole article offers some interesting new premises for near future scenarios.
  11. No, seriously.....I'm building it, have been for a while! I'm 100% confident that Combatintman will not approve of the briefing style for this one.....But hopefully it might make him grin! More soonish.
  12. I thought they might be a bit too squishy to set it off TBH.
  13. As Combatintman once wisely pointed out.....Be careful what you wish for:
  14. So.....Here we are again: It's testing time! PS - Still no tactical map though.....Dammit I forgot! PPS - Handy hint for anyone who intends to test this madness.....Use 'Acquire' in the MRAPs (Nyalas) to equip any CTS sections that do not have a RPG-29 with a SRAAW(M) and as much ammo for it as they can carry (leave nothing behind). Use your engineers' satchel charges sparingly, there are often routes through the blocks of buildings that are not apparent at first.
  15. I believe it can be done with some hex editing, but not 100% reliably for the reasons stated by Xorg_Xalargsky.....Flavour objects and buildings will probably be the biggest issue. The author of (and contributors to) this thread might be able to advise better:
  16. 'Never walk in front of the Drozd!' TBH I'm not actually sure if Drozd causes friendly casualties in CM:A.....But I'll probably know by tomorrow.
  17. Yes but those snipers are usually in hardened structures, what I am saying is that it wouldn't be a very good choice against infantry in the open.....Would it even detonate in such circumstances?
  18. It's a dedicated anti-tank weapon, it probably shouldn't be fired at infantry at all, unless they're in a house or similar.
  19. That's the fella, cheers JK. Found a bit more info here: http://arnhemjim.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/wwii-cutting-edge-night-vision.html I'm pretty familiar with the various German systems and the Comets story is not mentioned in any of my books, several of which are focussed exclusively on the Panther.....More bad news for the Reichsfrothers I guess.
  20. TBH the realities of urban combat have been known for over seventy years, the theory has been revamped many times, but the actual practices required to get the job done on the ground are, technological advances excepting, pretty much identical......And it's not pretty.
  21. Apparently not in RL.....I was watching those 'Ukraine Combat Videos', with guys ambling past tanks festooned with reactive armour, thinking just one 30mm cannon shell and you lot are Nationalist Paté!
  22. It's some great work, more than happy to wait for quality.....Keep us posted.
