  1. Hope MOS doesn't try this with what I just sent him.....He'll wear his keyboard out! I do find this fascinating from an old school table-top wargaming perspective, but suspect for CM my overall position is closer to Erwin's.....I do tend to prefer abstracted wargaming systems these days too.
  2. Wood splinters travelling at a significant chunk of the speed of sound are nasty, so it seems OK to me.....Bloody bad luck but quite acceptable IMHO.
  3. Thermal imaging, SIGINT, HUMINT (squaddies just can't stay off Facebook in the Ukraine it seems).
  4. Dude.....Just read the accounts of people who've had issues here, including me. My last problem was solved by one of the BFC bosses personally, in about an hour. Tell me when you ever got service like that on Steam. This is a small community, but it is a community.
  5. Meanwhile, in the real world, the fight goes on: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jun/04/iraqi-forces-retake-key-town-of-baaj-from-isis And it hasn't always gone entirely according to plan: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/may/25/us-mosul-airstrikes-deadliest-attack-iraq-2003 Poor Mosul.
  6. Don't worry about that drivel fella, it's just a feeble effort to compensate for the fact that Soviets did all the really s****y work removing the fascist abscess from European soil. There are roughly 25-30 million reasons for being thankful to the former USSR IMHO, whether you liked it or not.
  7. Cheers.....I think! I'm looking at the changes necessary for the final version (multiple AI plans) right now, but it will probably take a little while to get it right. In the mean time I've tweaked the current version per our discussions and sent it on to MOS:96B2P & borg for further testing.....You'll find a link lurking in your PM tray too, but mebbe take a little lie down before looking at it again, testing this one frazzled me to bits, you can probably see why now! If anyone else wants to give this final test version a go please shoot me a PM.
  8. I'm as intrigued as you are fella.
  9. He could tell you.....But then he'd have to kill you.
  10. Thought it might be a KV-1 m.1942, but finally caught a glimpse of the loader's hatch after several viewings.....Concur with the above.
  11. Don't stress, get yourself patched, then look in this section of the Repository: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=select&id=3 Anything in that section should work with just the base game.....You'll need to add modules to use the content in other areas. PS - Try the scenario 'Hammertime' from the scenarios section at that link, it's a personal favourite of mine and played as Blue it offers an excellent introductory learning experience for the modern(ish) battlefield.....George, if you are listening you need to be rewriting this one as the demo for CM:SF II it's very nicely done.
  12. We can't ignore the bigger issue TBH fella.....While Takfiri Wahhabism is promulgated as the Islamic norm this isn't ever going to end. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alastair-crooke/isis-wahhabism-saudi-arabia_b_5717157.html
  13. I was going to make a blasé comment, but having read the article it's actually pretty f*****g ghastly so I just can't.....We always had girls in our gaming groups, the gaming magazine I worked for had a lass on the staff, this really wasn't an issue that even existed for us when I was active in the gaming community.
  14. The Marawi situation is beginning to become 'news' in wider circles.....Quite a lot of articles out there now. Given his track record for 'subtlety', the locals had probably better hope that Duterte hasn't brought any of these: As souvenirs from his trip to see Vlad!
  15. Your old oppo sburke is kindly running the first blind test of the current iteration for me.....Reports suggest it's starting to get a bit bloody as the fight moves into areas that ISIS has more thoroughly prepared!
  16. Don't get me started about Red artillery.....Just had an allegedly competent Soviet spotter in CM:A call fire for effect on a mountaintop rather than the road in the valley he was actually aiming for! Mind you.....When it lands on target it does the licks!
  17. Bring on CM:SF II, (BFC please include the CM:A units) and please, please add uncons to all the CM titles, they are appropriate for all of them and would really add variety to the scenarios we can create. With all the content on Engine 4, iron out the remaining bugs and give us just a few more AI options.....That'd be me made up, that would.
  18. Yeah that was my impression.....Oh well, start with a photo and take pot luck with the others I guess!
  19. Let's be honest, both CM:SF & CM:A have some quirks, but I think most scenario designers have learned to work their way around them.....Sadly for quick battles this is not the case.
  20. I don't recall seeing a turorial JK, if I remember the demo-scenario correctly you have a bunch of BMPs (maybe a couple of tanks too) and have to prevent some Mujahideen escaping from a village (IIRC it's a beefed up version of one of the scenarios from the first campaign). Couple of tips: Your firepower is in your artillery support and your vehicles, use it, all of it.....Don't start using dismounts until you are satisfied that most of the more dangerous hostiles in the immediate area are already dead or thoroughly supressed. Split a two man 'Scout Team' off each infantry section as soon as they dismount and have these two men remount to occupy the commander's station in the BMP, this greatly improves the vehicles performance. Platoon & Company HQs should not dismount until the battle is largely over IMHO (improves C2, protects their precious a***s). If your dismounts spot something bad, get them into good cover ASAP and let a tank or a track take care of it, they can join in, but as I said earlier, your real firepower lies elsewhere.....The exception to this rule would be an RPG team, if it's one of those fellas, make sure you shoot it thoroughly while you run to cover so that it's already supressed when the vehicle blows it to smithereens. Never give an RPG team a break, ever! Keep shooting until you know they are all dead! Once you are ready to enter the village in force, form a Bronegruppa with 2/3 of your remaining IFVs (keep the two man teams aboard) and send this around the flanks to block lines of escape. Above all, remember you are the Red Army, not NATO, so if you take fire from a building, level the whole village. PS - The song in the video is very cool.
  21. I'm more shocked that people have used this bug in H2H games and not reported it.....That is a pretty low form of gamesmanship.
  22. I guess writing the AI scripts wouldn't take too long.
  23. The Soviets/Russians have used SPAAGs in an anti-infantry role intermittently since the invasion of Afghanistan.....In that rather mountainous country they soon discovered that the weaponry of tanks & APCs often couldn't elevate sufficiently to engage Mujahideen on the slopes above them. ZSUs with the radar removed and SPGs used in the direct fire role were the solution. The lesson was relearned in Grozny during the Chechen Wars, when the insurgents attacked from the upper floors of multi-storey buildings. Hence this: this: & ultimately this: All three can elevate their main weapons to near vertical. I'm guessing this was in the fighting for West-Mosul, presumably from/with 9th AD? Scratch that, I thought you were talking about Shilkas, but reading back it looks like it was the Buratino. The Syrians take the ZSU very seriously for ground combat, but they like to beef up its armour: Just a bit!
  24. I'd guess the 'Red Occupy Bug' makes things tricky with QBs, but I've never played a QB so I wouldn't know.....I suspect that if OP tries some of the newer output for the game he might find some satisfaction.
