  1. Analysis of the fighting in Marawi: https://www.cove.org.au/adaptation/article-the-battle-of-marawi-small-team-lessons-learned-for-the-close-fight/?fbclid=IwAR00iT4SbAfrverB9wjFC6jhOd7GESGvddsYVOAUaYpJ5S6L5IeGfn1i_QU Possibly of interest to @LongLeftFlank
  2. Sadly I can't view the original WaPo article.....As you can probably imagine, I'd rather like to see what's being said.
  3. Small Wars Journal presents an overview of the Russian perspective: https://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/open-source-backgrounder-russian-strategy-sub-sahara-africa-military-industrial
  4. Seems fair enough to me: "Where is everyone?" "Dead!" "Right, err, we'll be off then."
  5. To make pesky Javelins go away, first pulverise the likely area of operations with airburst Grad rounds (or even better a TOS-1A Buratino).....Hmmmm, hang on a minute!
  6. CTS receive due respect from Military Times: https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2019/01/16/inspector-general-to-look-at-whether-us-support-helps-iraqi-special-operations-forces-defeat-insurgents/ Older article with some info on CTS in Mosul: https://www.militarytimes.com/flashpoints/2017/08/11/iraqs-elite-counter-terrorism-force-looks-to-rebuild-after-mosul/
  7. We really need these: Presumbly they can be ported over from CM:SF2? How about Uragan & Smerch while we're at it?
  8. Bashar al Squarehead stands ready! I've said it before & I'll say it again.....We do think very similarly! Can't wait to see your implementation TBH, I'm still struggling with the intricacies of the more advanced engine.
  9. I do, but it gets me into trouble with @Sublime. On a more serious note, here's LWJ's assessment of the current situation, given recent 'presidential pronouncements': https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2018/12/analysis-the-costs-of-withdrawal-from-afghanistan.php Still reading it myself, but it's not looking too cheerful so far.....
  10. Sorry guys, I'll preface all future 'duffel-links' with a suitable warning.....I just put one in my Afghanistan thread. As for the comments on MRE.....I believe DB is staffed by veterans? They would know a great deal more about MREs than me, therefore as far as I'm concerned, their comments are gospel! PS - Going back to the original subject, Warrior is pretty much what Bradley was originally intended to be, before 'history' intervened.....Parodied here:
  11. Not to be taken seriously: https://www.duffelblog.com/2018/12/afghan-embassy-helipad/ But it might not be a bad idea!
  12. +1 for the Big Bundle.....Excellent value purchase if you can get the extra $$$s together (it's what I bought IIRC).
  13. The roof mortar was a Sherman (or German) thing and not all Shermans had them.....The usual British smoke launcher for a large part of the war was essentially a tin can and the workings of a .303 rifle.....Here's a pair on a Firefly (the turrets were probably allocated for conversion prior to the introduction of the mortar on the US assembly lines): The gubbins: I believe this is the ammo: Here's the Sherman's turret mortar:
  14. On MRE: https://www.duffelblog.com/2018/08/opinion-its-not-ready-to-eat-you-have-to-open-mix-and-heat-it/ https://www.duffelblog.com/2016/11/pentagon-recalls-thanksgiving-mres-after-realizing-they-contained-actual-turkey/ https://www.duffelblog.com/2017/03/young-vets-blaming-excessive-mre-consumption-in-latest-disability-claims/ https://www.duffelblog.com/2018/08/private-who-snorted-three-mre-coffee-packets-during-land-nav-wanders-onto-the-moon/
  15. Might have to use Dropbox for the game files, Yahoo started to spam block them, which was one of the reasons I stopped PBEMing.
  16. I guess, given the vagueness of the model that you could do either.....Or both! Cool to see more stuff for CM:A, will be following with interest.
  17. Happy Xmas Steve (& Co.).....Cheers for the update.
  18. NATO.....You get several new nations, a plethora of new vehicles & even a couple of toys for the Syrians.
  19. You might have to guide me through the process, I've only played CM1 by PBEM in the past. Have a great Xmas, will give you a shout in the new year.
  20. If that bad boy eats a RPG-29 it's just as dead as the Uran-9, but so are five brave Russians. Terminator's an interesting idea, but a bad one all the same (as it stands, the crew is just too high for such a dangerous job and two of them can't do much anyway).....Which is something of a shame TBH, as it looks so cool (I really didn't want to admit this for ages and even argued against it briefly, but after some thought the problems with it were undeniable). On a brighter note, T-15: With new & even bigger gun!
  21. Merry Xmas! (or Bah! Humbug!).....Whichever suits you better.
