That's my rule of thumb when playing the Ukrainians or Russians in CM:BS, especially at the first sound of a helicopter.....Abandon BTR/BMP/MTLB, crew too, preferably while parked between buildings. Then hide in those buildings, but not too close or you'll just die in the blast when your track cooks off! -
Hypotheticals of the CMBS game narrative

Strewth! You are right Michael.....I was confusing it with 'History of The Third World War' (& sequel), by General Sir John Hackett, which came out at around the same time. -

Oh they'd be up for it OK, assuming the same general politics as the real world, what we could actually practically offer might be the bigger question.....An armoured brigade type force would be the absolute upper limit IMHO. There's also the RAF and our attack submarines (& their cruise missiles) to consider. We do SoF quite well too. That applies rather more strongly to the British general public than it does to Her Majesty's Government.....We told them 'no' to Iraq too, but did that stop them? It would be fun to have a few of these to play with in CM:BS: https://www.janes.com/article/85918/iav-2019-rheinmetall-unveils-proposal-for-challenger-2-lep While they've actually only just popped into existence (as a proposal), that makes them at least as plausible as Ukrainian BM Oplots IMHO. PS - All of this, of course, assumes the Russians don't Iskander the channel ports and tunnel entrance off the face off the map at the first hint of a hostile Union Jack.....Or if the units are forward deployed, their bases. PPS - & No, Aegis Ashore won't do a bloody thing, that will go first. PPPS - Unless of course Aegis Ashore's VLS were filled with Tomahawks (which they could be), but that would be a major breach of the 1987 Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces treaty (INF), and America would never do that..... -

Depends entirely on what assumptions you make about British forces in the game storyline I guess.....After all, if the Ukrainians can have Oplots, anything is possible! -

Can't really see the Marines landing from the Black Sea, Russia's A2AD is just too good in that part of the world and destroying it would almost certainly trigger an escalation that would render the whole CM:BS scenario utterly irrelevant.....Overland deployment from Poland or maybe Turkey might make more sense. PS - Agree about Red Storm Rising, it's a generation out of date, more even and TBH it was written from a rather optimistic perspective too. -

I've generally come to believe that a clear warning in the briefing is only fair, even for a bit of light preliminary mortaring.....I did the same as you, but didn't move the Stryker, the rear MGS ate the missile and like with your experience, one of its comrades took instant revenge. -

ATGM take out an MGS by any chance? -

I'm not sure it was originally designed as a drone controller. -
Could I get some feedback on my coming campaign map?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to puje's topic in CM Shock Force 2 Maps and Mods
Those images really show the clustered layout of the settlements and the way the small semi-enclosed fields are tightly centred on the water source, my own effort (for CM:A) was based on a rather greener area (and a stock map), but the same rules seem to apply, so I applied them. Me too.....Great work @puje, as suggested, just build a few compounds, maybe add some suitably patterned fields and the job's a good 'un. -

Has there ever been any talk of a two-seat variant of the Su-57? One would imagine having an extra man as a dedicated drone controller might be advantageous in a high performance aircraft. -
Outstanding.

Have to say the starting setup is particularly nasty in this one.....Even by my standards! --------------------------------------------- SPOILER ALERT -------------------------------------------------- Shouldn't someone have warned that Lt. Colonel that there were ATGMs overlooking his line of approach? -
Another brief but interesting article on the French intervention in Mali: https://wavellroom.com/2017/11/30/the-french-intervention-in-mali-a-lesson-in-mission-command/

Oi! Eye needs a patch! A new module would go down nicely too.....Especially if it had T-72B1s in it.

I suspect it may only be 'stealthy' from the front, but that might be intentional.....That's quite a big UAV (it's significantly larger than the X-47B) with a very powerful looking engine and it also appears to have very large payload bays: Kirovets K-700A for scale, see this image: Images stolen from various threads at SH. -
TBH, I still prefer the latter: AC/DC with Bonn Scott, still the best (I wanted to post 'Love At First Feel', but it doesn't seem to be available on YouTube right now).

A very interesting article focussing on climate change driven conflict in central Nigeria (& no, it's not Boko Haram): https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/nigeria/2019-01-23/deadliest-conflict-youve-never-heard?cid=nlc-fa_fatoday-20190123&utm_medium=newsletters&utm_source=fatoday&utm_content=20190123&utm_campaign=FA Today 012319 The Deadliest Conflict You've Never Heard Of&utm_term=FA Today - 112017 You will need to sign up to view it.
