Someone should have bought Mad Addy a book about 1812. And then smacked 'im around the 'ead with it repeatedly. Not, to knock any sense into 'im, but just for the fun of it. As the old saying goes, "Never trust a man who goes into a beer hall and drinks mineral water".

Here are my main 2 Barbarossa Babies (PziiiG on the right and myĀ PzIVF1 blender mod on the left, I still have to gray the wheels and add more markings to match the pziiiG...)

Actually, I am trying to create an April 9th scenario in CMRT. But of course it will unfortunately have to be without bicycle or motorcycle troops. My scenario will centre on the town of Haderslev, where the final part of the movie takes place. It is still a long way from being finished, though.

umlaut reacted to Ithikial_AU in Future of JuJu's UI Mod - Project Unification
    Evening all,
@Juju has announced that he was stepping back from modding and after working as a tester for a few of his releases and then helping out directly with R2V he's graciously offered to handover the care of his long running UI mod to me. As he said, "Please look after my kids". JuJu has provided me with all the original .psd files now so it's easier to update and add things in with the new content matching pretty close to the existing mod. This is still well and truly his mod. Now I'm no artist but have been labouring away behind the scenes for a few hours every week and learning quite a bit as I go along. Please be a bit more patient.
There's been no CMRT F&R update from me but this is because I'm trying to hit these three goals before sending to Bootie for upload to CMMODS. Number 3 is the big one but a huge time saver going forward.
    1) CMRT F&R Update - Done -Ā just tweakingĀ  (I may release this separately so you can overlay it on top of your existing UI mod). Also fixes the mod to reflect the changes that were brought in with the background panels in the update.
    2) CMFI R2V Update - Fixing up some of my mess with shadows and colour correction in the last release.
    3) ModĀ Unification Project - JuJu had different background textures for each family which made the workload quite high with not a lot being easily transferable between the families.. well without standing out like a saw thumb. I'm switching this around so for exampleĀ the same M1 Garand Weapon Slot texture will now fit in in CMFI, CMBN and CMFB. Over time there's also been updated different icons for the same weapon, vehicle and special equipment icons between the families so I'm unifying the look there as well. CMFB icons get the preference given the slightly better detail. This also makes life a lot easier if and when future modules are released.
I should says this doesn't mean the all the mods will now look identical, the exact opposite, however the comment elements like weapon slots will carry across the game families. Think of it as the kids are still unique but I'm sending them to school and making them wear something resembling a uniform.
A few things that I'm not continuing or putting on the table now so there is no shocks later on. Most of this is largely due to time and I have no idea how to set up an script forĀ the Paint.net to do some of this repetitive work automatically. Batch processing doesn't appear to be a thing. (I'm not paying subscription money to Adobe).
    - Reducing the options for the "Yellow Weapon Slot" textures to just the red cross option. The many options JuJu provided over the yearsĀ here is an absolute time sync to create each one by one for every weapon BF has modeled in WW2 era CM2. It's actually an enormous list now! I won't rule it out down the track to bringing some of them back or doing something new here. Vinnart has already had an interesting idea, but I want to get something out sooner rather than later.
    - Portraits - Will fill in the gaps if I can get crafty enough and it meets my own (probably too) high bar. These are tough to get looking right. Backgrounds will be tweaked to sort of match the uniform of each branch to separate them out a touch. (See preview pics).
    - Never going into Cold War or the Modern titles. JuJu didn't and neither will I.
    Ā
Preview pics (I know about the black line running through the centre panel).

    The spare tracks:
The game automatically places spare tracks all over the hull and turret - hiding the decals - so I have made several different transparent versions of the bmp: panther-g-alpha [warsaw] - and one non-transparent: panther-g-alpha 5 [warsaw]. The aim is to make the game load only a few of the tracks. If you want no spare tracks at all, simply delete all the numbered ones (but not: panther-g-alpha [warsaw]). If you want all the tracks to show, delete all the panther-g-alpha [warsaw] files.

I like that somebody pays for this forum and I can put notes here for myself and others.
This thread will be where I puke out all my unit purchasing hacks, tips and tricks.
Maybe nothing new but at least it is written down for folks I am working with on CM projects.
Feel free to add yours as well.
    TIP 1
You can purchase teams and stuff from the enemy side. Go to data tab/page of the scenario. Look for
    (1) allies vs axis (standard)
    (2) axis vs axis
    (3) allies vs allies
SelectĀ the one you need something from... either allies vs allies or axis vs axis. Then return to theĀ units tab/page and purchase the desired team to the desired HQ. Then go back to normal data page setting. THEN SAVE!Ā
    DRAWBACKS:
the new team speaks the language of the enemy, or one of the enemies but maybe not the enemy in this scenario. So theoretically I can mod American voices and names to German JUST FOR THIS BATTLE. Bulk renaming utility does most of the work. I push a few buttons. Uniforms/Gear can also be modded.
This can help you sneak in a mod via mdr renaming. The physics of the original host vehicle mdr are retained in the game. It LOOKS like a pziiiG with a short 50mm. But everything behaves and results like a StuartĀ M5a1 with a 37mm for example. You can hexedit the mdr to look for different bmp's than what the allied Stuarts look like. I better explain that...
MDR hex editing to change bmp file name
As we all know, you have a German helmet mdr and it needs like helmet.bmp
For a futureĀ mod, my teamĀ changed the partisan civilian hat to the helmet mdr and then change art for some helmet.bmp with "OTHER INSIGNIA". It looks great!
BUT there is a problem. Now the Germans need helmet.bmp and they also have "OTHER INSIGNIA"...
You can avoid the German units that need that helmet but that is a half solution.
    Here is the better solution.
Open theĀ partisan civilian hatĀ mdr that was renamed from helmet.mdrĀ in the free hexedit program "Notepad++" and search (it is a tool in the menu bar)Ā  among the encrypted characters for English words "helmet", check the count, it is 2 places. 1Ā is important, it isĀ the bmp file name generic filename. smod_german_helmet. The other helmet is justĀ some internal description by the original file creator. German M43 helmet. That 2nd one can stay the same.
For the filename, CHANGE the t in hemet to a "g" and it is helmeg. It could be another letter. I just picked g.
    SAVE AND EXIT.
Then change ALL your "OTHER INSIGNIA"Ā helmets fielnames to be smod_german_helmeg with a "g" and the usual numbering. The same with the normal maps.
It works nice. Now the Germans can use the helmet also with no concerns on waffen-ss versus regular Germans.
    TIP 2
    Ā
This is the old scenario maker trick you can learn! You have a leftover higher HQ you don't need or want in your scenario. I retired as an O-5 so I somewhat know the lonely feeling of not a general but no longer a junior officer down in trenches. Anything unwanted for that matter, you can assign reinforcement group R7. Then you set the R7 to show at the 3 hour point. Get it? It never arrives during your battle. This could also apply for campaign use of the core unit. Save some unit from participation. I think... Ā  TIP 3 You can purchase teams and stuff from a different timeframe than your secanrio. Go to data tab/page of the scenario. Tweak the year and the date, go back to units purchase, now the Brazilians are there and you can purchaseĀ a tiny 37mm ATG. That early war feel.Ā Then return to theĀ units data/tab. Change back to your scenario date. THEN SAVE!Ā

Dang, you got me confused for a while there!

I have been searching my hard drives for the original psd files for the these backgrounds, but couldnĀ“t find them anywhere.

So then I checked my own CMBN mod folder and the only ones that were there were my original force-specific backgrounds - without the CMBN graphics (just phots and text). The only ones with the Battlefront CMBN logo and graphics were the ones IĀ“ve made for CMFI. Even more confused, as I then began to seriously question my own memory.
Then I checked cmmods III - and it turns out that I actually didnt make those FSBĀ“s. A guy named von Albert made the CMBN ones with the graphics - inspired by my mods for FI and RT! šŸ˜‚
So you should really ask von Albert this question, but he doesnt seem to be member of the forums here. If you fail to find him, I could probably recontruct a psd file for BN, based on the ones I have for FI.
