Very excited when I heard CMCW had dropped out of nowhere and was to be included.
As a Chieftain tank commander stationed in West Germany (Detmold) during the 80's, I was a bit deflated not to see the BAOR in the mix.
Any hints as to what will be added down the road after it's release?

I joke about modern day APS like Trophy that  with a little ingenuity the enemy would be able to triangulate on each vehicle's radar like in those old Star Trek episodes where they're tracking a cloaked Romulan Bird of Prey. After all, they're broadcasting radio waves like a AM country station.

@Rice I'll try to find. But here's the excerp from the BMP-1 technical description

    It says:
"Ports for mounted element to fire small arms: PK MGs - 2, AK assault rifles - 7"

@Double Deuce I do have paint.NET and love it for making scenario briefings and tactical maps and some other simple stuff. But you are right, it has less features for the hard core modding of uniforms, in my 2 cents opinion. Thanks for reminding me it can load .PSD

It has nowhere near the features as Photoshop, from what I'm told, but Paint.NET has a 3rd party plugin that enables both the loading and saving of Photoshop .PSD files so you could at least access them to see how it works.

I went to a school disco wearing a NBC respirator ('borrowed' from a friend's older brother who was in the army) in 1979. It was remarkably effective at electing the attention of the opposite sex - surprisingly. When I wear it now my wife just calls me 'a big creepy bastard'. Times change eh?

It's really too bad there is no tongue in cheek emoji... or even a slightly tongue in cheek emoji. It's all good with me, I really wasn't challenging the validity of anyone's human experience, in fact I honor it (the validity).

BUT not for the reasons you would probably think. I finally came back to Combat Mission after a very long break and decided go all in on Red Thunder. I'm not a late war fan but figured I could finagle the design of some Crimean Offensive scenarios and maybe a campaign (April-May 1944). I have spent the last month researching like mad, putting my OCD to the test, even learning to translate a few bits and pieces on Russian maps. Now I need to put all that work on hold and start working on Cold War research/design ideas. If nothing else I guess that gives me until sometime in April to get at least a scenario for CMRT designed, tested and released.
All I have to say is, this CMCW better be the cat's meow.  😁 In all seriousness though, I know I won't be disappointed.
For motivation for me to kick things into high gear, here is the current CMRT map I'm working on (800m x 640m). It's taking forever because I'm really trying to flesh it out with flavor objects . . . .

I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with the new module to take it earlier in the war.
Yes, of course I will enjoy the fruits of many great folks labors with (for example) Berlin battles. Thank you everybody that was involved. Valentine lend-lease tanks, thank you MickeyD
I am today enjoying the 5 year old snows of the CMRT Winter Mod (released late 2015) but of course it is a workaround with modtags and many things not fully winterized. I use muddy terrain to TRY and simulate snow. Nothing perfect.
Once I get the module, I will tinker and try to put fur hats on Germans. See if I can make a BETTER Kholm Siege mod.
I have a Soviet Great coat mod with Sergeant Major shoulder tabs.
    I have a Finn Mod.
Looking forward to more CM fun.

Good stuff guys... in turn 5 as shown in my last post, the M-60A!(RISE+) fired two APFSDS rounds at the BMP... here is the ammo loadout for the M-60A!(RISE+)..
..for some reason I was thinking it fired HESH.

It's great that you're into mapmaking! The CM Editor opens up a second world of hobby pleasure on top of enjoying the gameplay. Plus, once you get the hang of it, you can create your own content while waiting for new stuff from BF and the community. Whipping up private scenarios with house rules to cover gaps doesn't take much time at all. Public scenarios are a whole other thing and can take massive amounts of time.
While working on learning the AI, one thing you can do to easily add AI traction to QBs is to adjust force size and unit quality in favor of the AI.  For example, in RT, if I'm Germans, I use PIVs or Stugs and give the AI at least +40%. If I'm the Soviets, I give the AI big cats and at least some level of purchase point advantage, less or more, depending on the situation. You'll get a feel for it over time.

In my experience, it's generally better to manually choose units for the AI when it is German, as the auto feature often makes weird choices like all armor or nearly all infantry for "Mixed." The Soviet AI will more reliably choose a truly mixed force an auto.
    Good luck with your work!

The good thing with the games all using the same basic engine is I get to practice mapmaking which I love doing. I could work on them all day but maps without scenarios isn't going to cut it IMHO. I really need to learn the use the AI to at least make a semi-presentable and challenging opponent.

The coming CMRT 'Fire and Rubble' module is the cat's meow, too. Its (almost) too bad the Cold War announcement is stealing its thunder somewhat. Buy both! If not immediately, then with a decent interval between the two. The games ain't going anywhere.

Great looking map! Making maps in CM's editor certainly requires a bit of artistic ability.

In case anyone's wondering (which nobody probably is), the odd stowage racks on the M150 hull top are a stowed Kevlar tent that was designed to partially shield the TOW crew from artillery splinters. When erected it looks like the worst idea in the world so we kept i folded.

    That sounds great to me!
The equipment upgrades for both the US and the Soviets really were all over the place. I know for the US the cav units got priority for all the new stuff because they were the ones expected to take the brunt of the fighting, at least initially. Anything to increase their survivability was welcome. A lot of the newer stuff also was put into the equipment depots for REFORGER units to fall in on.
Of course, you can always assume that if there was any type of build up to the war, some of this newer equipment would have been sent out to the line units, for both the Us and Soviets.

I got to West Germany in May 83 so this game is slightly before that time frame however, my battalion was one of the last to get the M1s. When I left in 87 they still had the M60A3s and M113s (no units in our brigade had been upgraded). With what's available in this module, I can easily make 83-87 scenarios and a campaign. Time to dig out my old Steel Panthers stuff and get cracking on a conversion. 😁
