If only we had an operational level like this for CM2.

Erwin got a reaction from jackal263 in Bug when a tank crosses a bridge
There may be a bug that crops up when a bridge is at a certain alignment to the map. But... as I posted elsewhere, it is important to first have the vehicle rolling at the exact same axis as the bridge. That may require two waypoints before the bridge so that the vehicle is perfectly aligned. On longer bridges I also recommend waypoints on the bridge itself. In doing so I find vehicles getting stuck on bridges to be very rare.

Erwin got a reaction from Artkin in Having difficulty seeing the rounds flying through the air
There are mods to change the color or shots. Amongst others, supremo modder Aristotle did a "Tracers mod":

Much appreciated. How many more do you plan to do??

Erwin got a reaction from Probus in WOW! Why didn't somebody tell me how interesting and fun this CMCW games was.
That's what makes this such a great game system, Greg. Will be interested in discussing how you got on with your Soviet campaign. My units were easily devastated playing the US against you.

Erwin got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Going to the bog
There was huge discussion about this when the game came out and what Bulletpoint said is what BF confirmed. There is always the possibility that an update changed things, but that is unlikely unless BF wants to comment.

laurent... your mods are great. the only problem is when you have different versions of the same mod it's hard to decide which to use.

Was unclear whether one has to "buy" tickets (with money) for specific events in addition.

Erwin got a reaction from JulianJ in ... a constructive simulation called Combat Mission, showed that civilian gamers with no military training outperformed military officers with years of experience
This is not really new news. We played wargames vs military professionals back in the day (15-20- years ago) when my company was designing games for DoD and gamers regularly beat the milpros. Yet it is ludicrous to conclude that means that the gamers would make better commanders. The reason is that these are games and simply do not have the fidelity to accurately depict the complexities of war, and also, as gamers we can play vs the game system(s) better than the less experienced at playing games milpros. Even on these forums I vaguely recall one of the frequent poster milpros post that he doesn't play the game much. Playing a lot of games simply makes you very good at playing the games due to a better understanding of the game system.

Erwin got a reaction from JulianJ in I don't think I can go back to playing against the AI
Right there is the problem for many of us... The facility of playing when one can squeeze time and then stopping whenever a crisis or distraction arises without inconveniencing a human oppo is a primary advantage of single-player.

Erwin got a reaction from Blazing 88's in I don't think I can go back to playing against the AI
The AI in CM1 was not so great and after one become experienced it was much more fun to play PBEM. However, BF has done an admirable job with the CM2 AI and while it is fun to play H2H, I can't say that I find a human oppo that much more entertaining. The other issue is that one can easily play 5-10+ turns a day playing vs the AI while it's tough to get more than one turn per day when playing H2H, and often return of turns is a lot slower than that. Plus, campaigns is where CM really shines and of course one has to play vs the AI in campaigns. (I play campaigns almost exclusively and very few scenarios.) As AstroCat says, the vast majority of us play vs the AI probably for those reasons.

You have no reason to justify yourself George. The vast majority here are fully aware of the massive work and contribution you have made to the CM universe.

Erwin got a reaction from laurent 22 in British helmet fitted
While the lower helmet looks better after looking at pics of WW2 Brit soldiers it seems that it was normal for it to be a bit higher as one needs to account for the helmet lining. Looking at Phil's diagrammatic view: https://www.mediafire.com/view/t6ab2axrp1optj4/helmet_british_fitted_2.jpg/file one can see that the guy's head is almost touching the inside of the helmet with no room for a lining.

Erwin got a reaction from IHC70 in Engine 5 Wishlist
A "Wait in Ambush, Shoot, then Displace to Another Location" order would be very helpful for snipers, and any unit waiting to ambush something.
A complete revamp of the "Acquire" process so that any unit could exchange weapons and ammo with any adjacent unit - up to a reasonable amount of course and with a time delay - like when one sets up a crew weapon. (ie: Do away with the clickfest "Split into Teams, Mount Vehicle, Acquire, Dismount and Rejoin Original Squad" process.)
A "Scout Order" - one can simply click on a target location and the scout team uses an AI routine to carefully scout towards it while maintaining self-preservation. (Currently, scouting is a virtual suicide mission - at least in WEGO.)
