I thought it was said that the game would be done shortly after January and yet here we are in January without a Normandy forum and any whispers of the game.

Actually what was said was maybe some time after the holidays. Now exactly which holidays was somehow not precisely specified. It could be Valentine's Day, or St. Patrick's day, or the 4th. of July, or Labor Day, or Columbus Day, or.... And that's just a few of the major holidays celebrated in the USA. Now if you want to throw in the feast days and saints days of the Catholic calendar, there are a near-infinite number more. It might be a safe bet that the Mayan calendar has some too. And let's not forget Ramadan, Tet, and Yom Kippur. For brevity I am omitting thousands if not millions of other religious and secular holidays across the world. You may show your appreciation by mailing a small packet of large denomination bills to the usual address.

It will be for sale the instant we put it up on our webstore :D

Sorry, we really can't be much more specific. Yes, yes... for 11 years you guys pressure us into making predictions and, true to form, things take longer to do than we expect so the predictions turn out to be incorrect. Nothing is different now than before and likely things will never be different. You think you'd guys would catch on after all these years, but you are a bit of a slow bunch ;)

But here's a little bone:

We should be pretty close to hitting BETA by the end of this month. We had hoped to be there before Christmas but we decided to not rush things and take some time off (not much, mind you!). What BETA means is that the game has all of its major features, not that the game is nearly ready to release. There are a few months of tweaking, scenario/campaign stuff, and tons of loose ends to tie up before the game can be released.

Currently we have just about 30 active testers banging away on Normandy. To put that into perspective, not too long ago the total number of people (outside of BF.C) with access to Normandy could be counted on one hand. And those guys were only there to work on artwork, not test the game itself. We wouldn't have gone from 5 to 30 if we weren't well on our way towards completion.

Steve hands out tautologies like party favors. :D

To make it easier all around, why don't we all pretend that this is south of the border where "mañana" is the working man's best friend.

Oh come on Steve, how hard can it be for rune to throw together another of his "masterpieces" in which a platoon of French nuns use the MkIV French Bread to plug the viewports of a Tiger and render it blind.

Seriously ... release it when it's ready. We'll wait ...

do I hear 33? Is there any info on this new game? This is supposed to be a completely new game, right? Combat Mission: Normandy? Please correct me if im wrong

It's a new game, based on the CMSF engine. However, there will be a host of improvements to said engine (which I am not empowered to inform you of ;)), so you won't just be getting CMSF with WWII units, but something considerably better.

So even if it makes Beta by the end of this month its still "a few months" off from say early February.

Then all we need to do is find something that's badly broken and that timeline can be well and truly thrown off course. :)

It's interesting to note that if we Beta testers really were the brown-nosing 'yes' men that they claim we are over at the Nuthouse, you would probably have the WW2 title in your hands sometime around March or April. Of course, thankfully, we're not. We don't think everything is 'rosy' in the world of CM. We work very hard to make it better and better.

I thought BFC was already on the beach in Tahiti spending all of the pre-order money. You guys are lucky they dont make you pre-order the base game and all the planned modules before the game is even in beta. I know for sure if this was the case, they would be loading up on the tanning oil and rum. Most likely also would make Steves projection dates more accurate too! :P

Seriously though, you guys really should be happy that this engine has most of the glaring issues out of the way. Even though BFC worked hard over a longer time than anticipated, CMSF is worlds better than when released initially.

Good for you.

BTW, I hope you're not associating me with critical posts on the website you're implicating in the above passage because if you were, you would be dead wrong.

KR,

No, I think that was a more general comment aimed at a certain clique of rather grumpy people who, as grumpy people are wont to do, try to make everybody as miserable as themselves. You know, the people who are too weak to bring themselves up, so they act as a deadweight in an attempt to bring everybody else down.

As PaperTiger says, it's not like CM: Normandy is absolutely perfect already. There's a LOT of rough edges that have to be smoothed out, some features that still have to be added, and some other things done that probably none of us are aware of yet. Which is why we have no ship date :)

There is one distinctly "rosy" part right now... the testers all agree that we have nailed the feel of WW2 already. Yup, despite all kinds of placeholder artwork, models, animations, and even some features... the testers are enthusiastically unanimous that CM: Normandy will not feel even remotely like CM:SF with "a new skin". Since that is the single most important aspect to get right, we're confident that it's just a matter of time to get the details fixed up before we will have the best CM game ever to give you guys.
