I'd wish for the ability to play back an RT saved game. I don't like to play RT, mostly because I miss too much of the spectacle, the pretty lights, the thing that blew up over there or the awesome firefight my platoon won while I was looking elsewhere. I would like to play RT but be able to play back a saved game file.

Or even just a way to package the finished game into a file I can play back and rewind, whether it's RT or turn-based. I really enjoy seeing it all play out from different angles. Big part of the fun for me.

Ability to play on Mac is frankly what brought me to Combat Mission games. I'm pleased that CMCW runs well on my newish intel mac mini. It sure ran great on a Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro (but they weren't mine, and now they are gone). Super happy about it.
Gonna be up too late tonight fighting through 'Racing the Moon' scenario in the 1982 set.

The editors of Place magazine would like to issue the following redaction to our story of the Battle Of The Two Fahrbahns, appearing in yesterday's issue. Typographical errors were corrected. The Place regrets these errors.

Fun fact, for most of the title's development Shilellagh range was limited to 2000m, the range of the original MGM-51A missile (Its currently firing MGM-51C out to 3000m). So retreating up the hill would've meant the Russians being out of range until until they were 1/4 the way down the map. Event the Russian tanks sitting on the road would've been outside the range of the roadway M60A2s. Giving M60A2 the MGM-51C missile threw off gameplay assumptions a bit.

After a few starts on a campaign and feeling overwhelmed (but in a good way), I decided to try learning these units' capabilities by getting overwhelmed faster, 'failing faster' they call it. Instead of agonizing for 10 or 15 minutes over a turn's orders, I'm playing some single battles in RT mode, but saving and even reloading if i reeeeeelly mess up. I'm having fun discovering how they move and shoot, and enjoying the spectacle. Usually I prefer to play turns because I like to watch the action, see the little things hitting each other, and replay it from other angles. All the pretty lights. I miss a lot of that in RT mode, but I think I'm learning more quickly how to maneuver and shoot with these units than I was learning when playing turn-based battles.
I think I'm about to be overrun, at 2 Fahrbahns, but it only took a couple hours instead of days. I'm enjoying this a lot. All the pretty lights. My 5 tanks have smashed about 10 of their AFVs, mostly T72s, using a fat slow 152mm round. Feel like I'm tossing flaming marshmallows at the bears. Sometimes, they hurt the tank. Sometimes, they tickle them. But 3 T72s are passing through their dead pals' smoking wreckage, Lord knows how many more are behind them. They're hitting my tanks and mostly degrading them (like a mobility kill or optics kill) first, missing often but eventually hammering my tank one more time for the kill. Been rolling up to hulldown, shooting, and reversing, held them out to 1500 m so far, at 26:36, but I'm down to one fully crewed tank and one that lost its commander. They all fought bravely. An immobilized tank took out several more and held back a few with great shooting till it finally got the zap.

At this time I finally realize that 2 M150s have arrived. Just about to rush them into position and trying to back my 2 remaining tanks downhill till these TOW carts can rush up to help. No one's come within range of my Dragons. My Redeye guys have taken some shots, and taken some hits. Because it's RT, I didn't see whether they ever downed a plane. All the pretty lights, though.

Simply adding a z folder to the Data folder seems to work for me. Vin's icon mod is the only one I've tried here. It definitely works in CMCW for me. I have only tried the defaults set up in the mod, I think. I wanted to try a different set, but the defaults seemed to be describing exactly what I want.
Like you, I've had to "Show Package Contents" to gain access to these folders. Actually, I just checked mine, and I don't have to dig into the package to get to the Data folder. If you have to dig into a package often, you can make an alias to a folder inside it, and then move that alias outside the game's folders. I do something similar with the "Saved Games" folder in CMSF2 and CMCW (only titles I own). I save often, and later delete files or rename them so I remember what they're supposed to be. (But the Saved Games folder is not inside the package on my Mac.)
Showing Package Contents is a useful trick I've had to use for, gosh, more than a decade. If it's new to you, then welcome to a larger world. Sometimes, good stuff is in those. Obviously, I hope you agree, it can be dangerous to change anything in a package's contents. But at least a few apps document it as a normal process for accessing preferences or making changes to an app's behavior. Situation normal.

Once, I was lucky enough to find image files in an app for its interface. I could reskin it just by replacing them... but there could easily have been size limitations on the files that I didn't encounter, or color depth. I just lucked out and changed its buttons to suit me, and it worked. Other times, it didn't work and I didn't spend time figuring out why.

This is something like I saw in a movie. For North Afrika, a fuel drum filled with sand and they shove a sign in it...

I'd much rather see other countries in the time period that CMCW is about rather than backtracking all the way to WW2 again. It seems like a huge waste of potential doing that.

Some Soviet snipers could be improved on. The modders could do something. I realize we are a little of topic with F&R. But females were employed in WW2 too. Give credit where it is due.

Hello, this is probably not the best way to start off in a forum/community and at the risk of upsetting the more grog minded, I wondered if a sci-fi or future war type setting had ever been considered for CM games?
I can answer the question myself in that the CM USP is about simulation/realism, anathema to fictional settings. Lots of the player base (like me!) are presumably drawn to the vicarious fantasy of historical armchair generaldom.
On the other hand, I've been playing a mod of Hearts of Iron 4 set in the Fallout universe (Old World Blues) and I've been having a blast with the combination of setting, mechanics and a mix of familiar and unfamiliar technologies. It got me thinking how a CM game would play in the Fallout universe, power armour platoons mixed with robots, regular infantry, irregulars and AFVs. Also, the notion of walkers etc like AT-ATs (for want of a better example) or others (and setting aside how silly they might be e.g. does this thing have a hull down mode?).
Anyway, I'm sure its more likely the realm of a mod given possible licensing restrictions and I totally see it as a different direction for the CM brand, so most unlikely. Nonetheless, I'd be interested in the challenge of a more fictional setting with wilder units. Any thoughts?

Good job getting through it and interesting that your M150 got sniped. When they appeared I split them north and south to get hull down positions over the entire length of the map almost, and already had an AA team close enough to them. Think I must have got lucky taking down the air support.
In the end I managed a total victory, with no loss of M60 apart from the one that took a penetrating round to its main gun. I did lose an M113 and a full squad in my rather foolish push up the north flank good scenario! Time to try it from the Red side...

I do a lot of checking and rechecking, maybe too much. I wish I could assign keyboard and/or mouse controls to the Up/Down movement that's driven by the mousewheel. I've got no way to emulate that, but plenty of keys not bound to anything. It would make life within the game's render box easier.
I'm using a Mac that was built for video editing, and it handles these graphics just fine, as far as I can tell. I was more surprised by the way nearby objects are clipped when the camera comes close (I love zooming in on an in-flight rocket, then unpausing and watching it zoom, that kinda thing).

Finally got thru it. It was encouraging to know I still had a chance. I'm glad I mentioned it. I sometimes saved every few seconds (this is RT mode, Basic Training level) so that I could go back and see what just happened (as well as cheat like a Time Bandit, sometimes). I didn't even notice one of the aircraft kills my AA troops achieved. The Soviet air support expertly zapped an M150 a minute or two after it arrived on station. That was a dramatic explosion, but I didn't know what had caused it. Was totally absorbed. Still poking through the ashes. Fascinating. Now I'm gonna go back thru some earlier saves and watch some highlights, all the pretty lights.

Thanks, I suspected so but I'm no veteran of the WWII titles, only been playing around a year or so—still learning
As I expected, as soon as I pressed play for the next move what I assume was a T72 round hit a tree and wiped one of the 2 squads entirely. Lesson learned! Managed to get the other one back safely. Will watch your AAR once I'm done to avoid spoilers

I enjoyed this scenario a lot.
I rushed one of the M60s and a squad of infantry in a M113 up to grab the woods on the right map edge at the beginning and their flanking fire on Soviet forces trying to grab. the central complex was key. The M60s I kept in the center didn't really pull their weight before getting brewed. But the one I had on the far left also did considerable damage.
That said, without the TOW vehicles arriving the when they did, I would have been over run.

You know I just received the M150s and I was looking at the right flank forest thinking I should have moved or maybe I will still move one of my M60s up there. Already have a M113 squad heading to the forest to try get some sneaky dragon shots off but it may be too late now as the Soviets are at the barns.
I'll redo this one again some time with that in mind. I didn't really plan my defence much more than holding hull-down on the ridges as I didn't intend to complete this scenario this time around and I'm taking a bit of a bruising. Still have all but one M60 firing though so could be worse...
