Those encircled in the picture are bodybags they wear on their shoulders just in case they get shot. They can then crawl into the bodybags to make it easier for the medics to remove them from the battlefield.

The destruction of the bridge was one of the objectives during this battle in 1944 and will give the German player the most points. But if he doesn't succeed, he is hopefully going to be able to stop the Allied player from crossing the bridge and that way prevent him from getting the points for holding and securing his both bridge objectives.
I'm not very fond of using TRPs as it might make the battle a bit too easy for the player having them. The only reason to have TRPs is if the player needs to defend a well prepared defense line. I don't think this battle was so very well prepared as the German forces starting position was a few kilometres away from the bridge. To have the artillery fall randomly is also more fun. But in this case a linear target over the bridge, from one river bank to the other river bank, will destroy it.
Artillery support from a 150mm howitzer can be requested by an officer so I'll need to use a 170mm cannon which requires an FO. And it will be necessary for the German player to clear the two smaller villages on the road towards the bridge before the FO can move down. But I might add another FO a bit closer to the end of the scenario just in case.

You're probably correct chuckie. But with my post I meant to say "why is the game made that way that infantry can embark a halftrack and drive it to the closest beerhut but they can't borrow a lorry to do the same? If they can drive a halftrack they should be able to drive a lorry".

That's the reason to why some people put a gun crew on top of a foxhole. When the enemy is sending their hard rain the gun team can seek cover in the foxhole below them and jump back up when the barrage is over.

Rome Total War 2 for example? I looked forward to that game because I had good memories of Rome Total War. But I decided to wait and then never bought the game because of all the needs of patches which apparently didn't manage to make the game as good as they had promised. It was fun to read all the complaints on different forums.

My example above with a dense forest and woods and the corner of a house and single trees and bushes are from what my pixeltruppen managed to see through in Final Blitzkrieg and also in the Black Sea demo. The strange thing with the situation in Final Blitzkrieg is that I also had a German SPW 250/9 reconnaissance halftrack wich was unbuttoned and with a clear view of the same area without any trees blocking. But although I left the halftrack standing there for three turns the crew still couldn't see that lonesome enemy team while the squad behind a dense forest could see through everything which should have blocked their view.

Although Zloba probably still is sleeeping now from having played CMBN all night and into the early morning and maybe continues to play after the brunch and cup of coffee, I'm pretty sure he'll check back on this thread later on.
A little tip for him is to read this thread about C2 sharing between different troops and units. It will be of help while playing against the AI and I believe especially against a human opponent.

The AI's or Player's troops being able to see through a dense forest, or in some cases even - through a dense forest and over a field after which there are some woods and the corner of a building and further on through some lonely trees and bushes where there is a single enemy soldier having a **** in the tall grass - is part of the magic eye the CM-games make you annoyed over but you learn to live with.
When it comes to "turning off trees being gamey", you don't need to take that seriously. Those who claim that it's gamey only want to try to force their way of playing the game on other people. Turning off trees can be helpful to see what is in the forests and help to figure out where the mortar fire will land.

Is this something that is how it works IRL or is it how you use them? If you have experience from this yourself, if you were in the army or any other fighting force, why not tell us an anecdote about it? As far as I understand from what you have written earlier you are 70 years old and could have experienced things as a soldier.

It's a pity there isn't a sound mod for the winter with a cold wind blowing. As far as I know there are only day sound, night sound, rain with and rain without thunder sound without any shooting and explosions.
I think that a visit to a website with free sounds for download could help me with that.

If I'm not wrong there's a custom made scenario about Omaha Beach. There might actually be two different of them, one for the base game and one which requires the CW-module.
Any of those could also be a good first scenario after the training in Devon.
I have now read everything that was written after that which I recited and understand that playing the Omaha Beach scenarios will most likely have to wait until Zloba has played a few smaller scenarios/quick battles.

If you have a so called tentative contact of an AT-gun but that one disappears when you click on the tank someone else is having the tentative contact. If it is the tank that has the tentative contact but it disappears because of the vegetation, you can use the Alt + T to remove the vegetation so you can see the tentative contact and aim at a location close to it.

By "ping" do you mean something like @RepsolCBR? If that's what you mean, just type an @ after which you start writing the forum name of the person you'd like to ping. If you did it correctly it should look like the one above.

Nice video. I was expecting a rude comment from the tank commander to the driver when the last tank went into that hole in the ground. But I guess the commander was in his seat too busy chomping on a chocolate bar.

So here´s the procedures for everybody to try yourself:

    Buddy Aid:

Rezexplode the "Normandy v100A.brz" file from Data folder, look in animations/unarmed, rename the "unarmed-idle-prone.ani" file to "unarmed-tend to casualty.ani" and drop that into data/z folder = prone lying medic. He won´t that die that often anymore.

    Cower:

Same as above, but rename "kar98k-idle-prone.ani" to "kar98k-cower.ani" (both in k98k folder) and drop into data/z.

    Reloading, one stance lower:

    Folders (in animation):

bar, bazooka, kar98k, m240, mg42, mp40, mp44, panzerschreck, piat, pistol, sten and thompson.

Ani files are distributed amongst "Normandy v110.brz" (base), "Normandy v111.brz", "Normandy v200.brz" (contains major animation file update), "normandy v210.brz" and "Normandy v211.brz".

Rezexplode them all subsequentially (assuming you have ALL game updates, as well as CW and MG modules installed) and copy the animations folder to a seperate place. Copy any animation file updates (from BRZ file list above) over older animation folder, until you have just the latest files available and ready for the renaming procedure.

Now go to the individual weapons animation folders (list above) and look for the files with "reload" in file name. I.E there´s 9 times a "reload" file in k98k folder (reload prone, reload kneel, reload stand, a-b-c). Copy the reload prone files to a seperate folder. Rename the prone files to corresponding kneel file names (i.e "kar98k-reload-a-prone.ani" to "kar98k-reload-a-kneel.ani"). Now put the original kneel files into a temp folder and rename them to corresponding stand files (i.e "kar98k-reload-a-kneel.ani" to "kar98k-reload-a-stand.ani").

This leaves up to 6 renamed files from every suitable weapons animations folder (rifles, lMG, SMG and zooks), to be copied or rezpacked into the data/z folder. If all done right, reloading soldiers in stand stance, will play the reloading in kneel stance animation, reloading in kneel stance will use reloading in prone stance animation. Reloading prone is unchanged and unaffected.

I did not tinker with any of the HMG (heavy) animation, nor other files, not related to reload. The reload animation files contain the full clip/magazine reload actions, not to be confused with single round reload (bolt action). Reloading rifle grenades is affected as well, as is Zooks/Schrecks, when files are renamed from the appropiate folders.

I haven´t had any game crashes or "broken" animation sequences, although some transitions could be a bit "dirty". Do at your own risk.

Hope the instructions are clear enough for everyone to experiment with and have fun with results.

I think I might have found the reason to why the AI-attacking forces never began to move from the setup positions in this quick battle map. There were two other AI-plans with setup positions but without any move orders added to them. Those plans weren't set to "never use" which caused the game to load them with the result that the AI-troops just stood and waited.
I have now removed the setup positions in those two AI-plans and also set them to "never use". It should work now.
    Thanks for your time.

I haven't noticed this before but actually had this happen to me yesterday and today but in a quick battle.
When I had the same happen to me I decided to prepare that quick battle in author mode, or what it's called, just to check on the behaviour of the attacker.
The strange thing is that a few times I've prepared a quick battle on this map, the attacker starts moving his troops but most of the times I've prepared this quick battle the attacker doesn't move at all.
Maybe @wham, as he was the one who started this thread, should report this as a bug?

This would be much easier if quick battles could be longer than 2 hours especially if the map is large or huge.
