sttp got a reaction from Damian45 in The year to come - 2024 (Part 1)
There's a lot of wishful thinking taking place in this thread from the small minority who want to see early WW2 content. How many times and ways do we need to hear BFC say that early war just isn't a wise use of their time and resources?
Would it be profitable? Probably. Would it be less profitable than other things they could be doing? Definitely.
The CMx2 engine is FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. At this point all new CM2 content feels like watching the same old play but with slightly different costumes and some upgraded props. It's a good and classic play, and I'll watch it as long as I must, but... it is the same old play.
Every minute that core BFC staff spend on CMx2 is a minute they could have been using to develop CMx3.

It has a we-go mode where you can adjust the time the game runs and then pauses for orders.  Or, like CM, you can run it in RT.

Well the market is shrinking for them with this 10 year old engine. Their call.

Regarding the current war in Ukraine- You do all know there is a thread that is now 100s of pages long discussing it in the Black Sea forums. Can we not digress into discussing the war itself here in this thread please?

    That's not true at all.
What actually happened was that there was initially some quite polite discussion about how it should work, both from a historical and gameplay perspective.
But then very quickly, MikeyD stepped in and said uncontrolled air support in Normandy was actually an unintentional change in CMBN. It was then quickly reverted to how it used to be with a patch.

There's a book called No Triumphant Procession that covers this battle, with a good deal on the fighting in Rethem. This battle as designed hews close to the actions depicted, down to the placements of units and rendering of the map.
The battle is a question of whether or not a player can do better than the UK force did.

sttp reacted to Mr.X in Locking my BattlePack topic
This will be my last comment on this topic:
    1. I will not defend myself against accusations that are absolutely grotesque. What do you think? That I am selling Battlefront products illegally via their official forum? To earn what? 150 Dollars ? 😂
    2. I have invested a lot of time to create such a huge BattlePack. It was primarily for my personal pleasure. Why did I invest so much time ? I don’t normally post any personal backgrounds, but in this context let me give a short explanation:
After working in Level A hospitals for 15 years, during the last year I was member of a medical intervention team. My job is to wait for emergency calls. Sometimes there isn‘t any of these so that you are waiting for endless hours. During this time, I am payed AND I can do what I like: sleeping, reading books or watching TV … or doing some PC game stuff like CM. For example: some month ago, last September I started my day and we had to resuscitate a three year old boy who had a cardiac arrest when suddenly stop breathing while he was sleeping. His diagnosis was a huge brain tumor and he passed away some weeks later. Some hours later, I had to open the chest of a 24 year old girl in the ditch who was trapped under her own car.
Between these two rescue missions, I created CM stuff, as a form of relaxation.

    3. Of course, if one creates such stuff, it is nice to share the result with a community like in this forum. I did contact Battlefront in order to get (may be) some logistical support (especially for playtesting) and to offer them to use my work for their own - without any financial interest !!! I thought there was some enthusiasm there for such projects, but this idea was completely naiv. Did I care about that? No, I didn‘t. I continued with my project because it was my own pleasure.
    4. Why did I go the way of „pre-ordering“? Sometimes, if you make content and it is placed on an uploading platform, it feels as if your content is swallowed by a kind of blackwhole. So, I have decided to make it this way, in a more personal form. When the content is ready, I will send it to all the guys who like to get it. Nothing more…no payment, no abuse of mail-adresses, only some harmless files of a OC game.
    5. My personal happiness does not depend on such game stuff. I have enough real life, children etc.
If players like the content, it will be a pleasure for me. If they don’t like it, it is absolutely ok. And even if my computer should crash and all my stuff was destroyed - so what. It is only a hobby, little fun, nothing more.

sttp reacted to benpark in DF Master Maps List/Images
There isn't a listing for the big maps I made for the DF module included anywhere, but I'll attach some images of each them here for some visual reference for people looking to use them for their own purposes. These were either chopped up for the campaigns, QB's, and for the Rethem scenario that I made. There's a good deal of territory that wasn't used, as well.

    Cologne/Koln:

I've updated/created a couple of vehicle dealerships for Downfall to the best of my abilities. That is:

The existing German dealership - with the new Downfall units.

A new UK dealership - plus a few Canadian vehicles that I couldn't find in the British TOE. No Polish forces, at they don't seem to contain other units than the British.

I think I have found all units available in the dealerships, but I'm not sure.

I haven't updated the US dealership yet -  but might do so later.

sttp reacted to Lieutenant Ash in Can’t Activate CMFB Downfall or login for Ticket
To have the 'downfall' module you need to download the version 2.10 installer from the patches page on the battlefront web site. Once downloaded unzip the file and run the installer, after installation you will have final blitzkrieg base game v2.10 (check version on the start screen). Quit the game and look for the 'activate new product' icon (should have been placed on your desktop) run this and it will prompt you to input the activation key (copy and paste this from the 'my orders' page on the battlefront website) if it works correctly it will say 'successful activation' . launch game and you will see the 'downfall' icon (bottom left on start screen) then, happy gaming!
Note: the login details for the store are different to that of the forum. If you have lost the store details then contact Elvis he should be able to help.
Note 2: Above steps are for windows system, no idea about mac procedure.

    Glad to be of help.
In my opinion the 'no download required' statement can be misleading, that only works if you have the latest game version already installed.

Ian beat me to it. Just use what the designer selected in the editor. Another good rule of thumb, that lines up mostly with what designers generally determine their mission as:
    - Meeting Engagement - Both forces attack each other... what it says on the tin.
    - " " " Probe - Usually a small engagement with one side trying to get to a specific point on the map or spot enemy positions.
    - " " " Attack - One side has a clear advantage any attacks a force that is on the defensive from the outset  (probably your ambush)
    - " " " Assault - As per attack but the defender is usually dug in, in prepared positions or spread through an urban environment. Offensive side generally has a large advantage in troops and equipment up front.
For those trying out the little spreadsheet for the first time a video guide to help you out (older version but basics are all the same):

sttp reacted to Vacillator in PBEM issue since PBEM++ was introduced
So in case anyone else sees it, this is for PC-based PBEM players who have not signed up on Matrix/Slitherine for PBEM++.
Getting to the end of a game, and the opponent presses ceasefire or surrender.  Instead of getting the end screen with points tally and map review, you get red error boxes saying you haven't registered an account.  I've had it in CMBN and CMRT in recent games.  One was against my good friend @Ultradave who has logged it as a possible bug bleeding through from PBEM++ into the 'normal' world.
If you do get the red error boxes just click through and do another turn (with or without orders).  And maybe another turn...  Eventually you'll get the end screen.

I must say I disagree here. The amount of detail in Graviteam is incredible, and they just keep adding more and more. Just recently, they added simulation of exactly where each soldier gets hit by bullets and fragments. Some hits will kill immediately, some will wound, and some wounds will eventually kill - again depending on what part of the body gets hit.
And just to take it to the almost silly levels: I suggested to the developer that Soviet molotov cocktails might in some cases fail to burst if they hit soft ground or deep snow, simply because the bottle won't break. To my surprise, they actually went ahead and used my suggestion and changed the game code to do this.
Which is not only detail for the sake of detail - it means Soviet infantry is now less effective against infantry in snowy and muddy battles.
One can definitely make an argument that Combat Mission is better as a game than Graviteam is, but I think it depends on one's preferences. Both are worth playing in my opinion. CM has micromanagement, turn replay and also better urban combat. But Graviteam has much more detail and work put in overall, as I see it.

It's because russia is losing and the war may not be over before the end of 2024. It won't look good to release a game about the war in Ukraine as the war will still be going on....
I  am pro-Ukrainian just calling it like I see it.

I hope I am wrong and this is all over soon and in a positive way for the Ukrainian people

Get the whole FI package when you do. There's a LOT of variety in forces and equipment in, especially in the DLCs, and some great scenarios all around. It's a very different experience from the hedgerows and the steppes!

For the record I tried to play your Blue Hills scenario in FB as PBEM and whilst it was an interesting scenario it was unplayable due to performance issues, and whilst I don't have a top end PC it's no slouch. We had to abandon the game not long after starting as my oppo was having issues too.
So perhaps it was a conscious choice by the designer? To simply label them lazy is very judgemental, Walt Whitman would not be impressed

CM 1939-40 would be very fun, but I don't see any reason to doubt BFC's assessment that it's not the profitable option, so the debating feels fairly pointless: it's unlikely to change anything, the arguments against it have been repeated over and over and there's no reason to question them.

Thanks. More than 70km2 of maps to fight over in this Battle Pack. I'm still creating two more smaller maps for two scenarios. Using a lot of BIGOT maps from 1944 and aerial photos for reference. Some master maps will have variants that will also be provided with the historical German Fortifications placed and ready to go. (<-- That took a while...)
As per last year's bones on the pack, geographically the fighting is focused on the Utah Beach area itself and the area heading south towards and beyond Carentan. All scenarios/campaigns occur between 00:05 hours on 6th of June through to the evening of the 13th of June. Don't expect all of them to be brutal slog fests, particularly the D-Day ones where the Allies at times had significant advantages. I'm going for more of a focus on narrative and experiencing that first week coming off Utah Beach rather than slug fests designed for competitive tournament play. (Master Maps are there if you want to create your own matches though). If you play the pack chronologically and come out the other end content and with a greater appreciation of the challenges the forces faced, then I've done my job.
The content in this part of the Normandy theatre, though popular, couldn't be created by BF as part of the CMBN base game given the absence of Fallschirmjager and Waffen SS forces in the WW2 titles at the time.
