Raging Al reacted to Thomm in So you just got your hands on CMCW...now what? Designers Q&A thread.
Personal message to the scenario designers:
I just finished my first medium scenario (Brauersdorf), and it was great, but I find it very hard to motivate myself to even start another medium (or larger) scenario.
They are simply too big / too much effort for casual playing.
You (the designers) put so much time into the editor to set up these big scenarios, and I cannot even appreciate your effort, because I simply cannot convince myself to put the necessary amount of time into a single game.
I have no idea if others feel the same way, but for me it would be much better, if, e.g., two thirds of the scenarios would be 'small' or below in size. And not the other way round.
    Best regards,
    Thomm

As long as it involves a major expansion of the depictions of Italian Armed Forces i'd absolutely be in on North Africa.

Maverick Pentagon planners at the time snidely dubbed the US doctrine in West Germany as 'Don't lose'. They were advocating for a far more aggressive counter-punching strategy but its doubtful that US warfighting material (pre-Abrams) was sufficiently superior to pull off that feat.
The objective of the B2F scenario is to have you feel what a Soviet assault on your defensive line would be like. If you aren't pooping your pants in fear at the initial artillery prep then it didn't do its job. Everything in the scenario's meant to heighten your anxiety, from the bad weather to the approaching enemy randomly area-firing into your position, to the spotty LOF, to the sounds of overhead planes circling.

One of my big wishes (Cold War) has been granted. Here's to hoping history will predict the future and we'll all get Combat Mission Blitzkrieg

Great news, Battlefront.  Thanks for all your hard work.  Can’t wait to get stuck in.

I like this idea -- challenge all of us yammering for east front to put our money where our mouths are.  I'd pay my $60 right now for a 1943 or 1942 game that wouldn't be delivered until 2022 sometime .  So BFC could ask how many would be willing to fund the project, and if that's enough they could ask folks to pay up and if enough actually pay then there's the answer.  And if enough don't I guess we get refund.

Agreed.  BF's attitude against doing early war that many of us have been loyally paying money while waiting for CM2 to get to early war since CM2 came out in 2007 is probably a self-fulfilling prophecy and they don't want a kickstarter-like project to spoil their assumptions.
There's probably generational shift in era interests.  Perhaps the younger market only want to play games where the US is kicking butt.  Old-timers grew up enjoying playing cardboard wargames with WW2 Rumanian, Hungarian, Finnish etc. equipment.
It's sad if this is really the nail in the coffin for the long promised early war titles.

    Steve,
We have heard the story from MikeyD about the Valentine going in or not going into F&R. You're the boss. You take a high standard on TOE and historical accuracy. He proved it and you then agreed, it went in.
But for the vehicles that Casio has already modelled but are in other titles, the dogs and cats, like the R-35 or the Samoa, early Panzer III, (I can send you a list if you want me to bird dog it all) CAN THEY BE JUST SHOVED INTO THE EDITOR AS SINGLE VEHICLE PURCHASABLE? Please maybe also a water cooled HMG for the axis? And some infantry team WITHOUT panzerfausts? These would be clearly said as "Steve didn't approve but took pity on kohlenklau" and we threw it in for modding purposes as building blocks for SOME early war scenario ability...
..and I think this might have helped get me the Schwimmwagen...

I had an issue with CMFI where I was getting a message that I was missing 3 breeze files. I messed about to see if I could sort it out with no luck.
So I filled out a Help Desk form outlining the problem, and since it was Sunday I didn't expected an answer until later in the week.
1 hour and 15 minutes afterwards I had a reply from John Costello........on a Sunday. He had taken the trouble to provide a download for me of the 3 files I needed.
    What great service!! Unbelievable.

Just for fun I wanted to see how close I could get to that M60A3-crossing-the-bridge pict. Not half bad for 10 minutes playing.

I know everybody is excited and would like to know what is next after the Base Game... believe me we are all excited too!
As far as follow-on modules go.. yes several are planned, but what they are specifically we will keep to ourselves until after the game is released.  For now the focus must stay on the base-game for us, but feel free to conjecture and dream, I enjoy those threads, but we won't be confirming or denying anything until after this one is on the street.
Just so you guys know that we aren't ignoring you in those discussions, we are trying to stay focused and not get sidetracked so we can deliver this thing in time.
    Cheers, Bil

“Here, across death’s other river, the Tartar horsemen shake their spears.”

This BETA game is being played against Warren (The_Capt), and we are very familiar with each other’s style, strengths and weaknesses as we’ve been playing CM against each other for close to 20 years now.
CM Cold War was our brainchild and has been on our wargame design table, off and on, for eight years now, but now it is a real thing.  You’re welcome.    With that said it is only fitting that Warren and I play in this BETA AAR.  We haven’t played in public since our original CMBN BETA AAR, Not your Father’s Combat Mission.
I hope you enjoy the ride, and welcome to the COLD WAR!!

Sidebar!  I strictly use the Movie Mode when I play so all of my screenshots use that feature.  I don't mean it to insult anybody, but I just think the game looks better.
Meeting Engagement at Dolbach Heights, 1980
When Warren and I laid out the design for this game we wanted it to be primarily and ultimately a sandbox for experimentation and reflection.  A tool to test the tactical theories that were prevalent at that time.  Time… yes, we also wanted to be able to examine the different sides from different time perspectives, and this release, the base game in the CM Cold War series, contains the years 1979 to 1982.  We also only cover the months March to October, mainly so we didn’t have to generate winter textures and models which would have been one feature too many.
This particular scenario is one that Warren and I threw together that we thought would be fun to play and show off.  The map is from the US Campaign and when you play that you will see this map eventually.  I will start my METT-T analysis in my next post, but for now, sit back, enjoy the existence of this game, and don’t go away!

Back around April 2019 I got first wind of the still-unnamed cold war title. I quickly threw together new rural Germany mountains horizons, hastily reskinned CMSF2 T62, then brought it into CMBS as a 'proof of concept' test. The response was 'Dang, this could actually work!' These are the very first screenshots from the very first test of what would eventually turn into CM Cold War.

TBH, I'd really prefer early war (WWII) content for CM, but I'll take what I can get and am enjoying what is currently available.
