As others have noted daz, 3.0 is not a patch. It is an upgrade, an important distinction.  You did not patch from 1.0 to 2.0, you upgraded. 2.11 was a patch.  The fact that you didn't have to pay had more to do with BF adapting.  As to the difference between 1.0 to 2.0 etc.  BF had long ago stated how they would handle versions.  They would not support older ones so 1.0 would never get another patch.  In the process they are trying to figure out how best to handle this for their customers.  You may notice that there is now a new configuration. When you buy 3.0 it has ALL the modules.  If you buy just CMBN, they are all still there.  When you buy MG afterwards, you are just buying a license and do not have to now download the game.  It is a process that again is adapting.

BF has always been clear about the difference between patches and upgrades and costs.  It is on you the buyer to inform yourself about what to expect on your purchase.

The 3.0 upgrade was a lot of work and added a lot of new stuff.  if it were just fixing bugs, it would have been free.

Your complaints are a bit mis directed.

Below are just some of the new features that 3.0 includes

Graphics Hit impacts to vehicles and bunkers now shown graphically ("hit decals") Water animates for fording units Improved shaders   Gameplay Ground units are now able to fire at attacking aircraft Ammo Dumps allow platoons to have reserve ammo stored separately on map (automatically distributed for certain Skill Levels) WeGo TCP/IP with the ability to save but not the ability to replay combat action Spotters restricted to directing only one Mission at a time. Assets can now be group fired. More realistic/varied RoF of automatic weapons. Improved load time for scenarios, especially larger ones with complex terrain   User Interface Three different sets of camera controls; Standard (traditional), First Person Shooter, and Real Time Strategy Optional graphical Command and Control link tracing KIAs are shown in the Soldier/Crew Panels to track soldiers lost during the game Option to disable music separate from other game sounds   Editor Ability to create AI Triggers that execute actions based on other units or interaction with Objectives (existing battles do not have this, but it can be added by authors if they wish) Maximum map size increased Improved responsiveness of 2D editing, especially for large maps Improved load time for 3D Preview, especially large maps Customized "Mod Tags" for most graphics. This allows for multiple mods for the same item without the need to move items in/out of Data folder Ability to specify specific mods be used for a specific Scenario. If CM fails to find the specified mod it will use the default

    Hi
I brought the game when it first came out and it had a lot of bugs in it, battle front did upgrades for the bug fix and they where free.
I tried to play a game the other day vs a mate, but he was using 3.0 upgrade and we could not play, so i went on to the BATTLE FRONT site as i have done in the past and upgraded to 2.11 at no cost.
Now they want you to pay for 3.0 upgrade!

I just got bored and decided to mess around with some of the files and this is the end result ,plus I was not a huge fan of the Russian tanker helmet and I also wanted the Ukrainian tankers to more like infantrymen I probably upload them, I might try to do other things too. And all of the textures are not mine but but are made by vein

Tank evolution seemed to have slowed in the 00's and early 10's but it seems to be speeding up again now with the T-14 the upcoming M1A3 Abrams and the possible French-German Leopard 3

Now Ukraine is upgrading its aging T-72's in PT-91 Twardys.

Perhaps this could be in a future module?

Dear Publishers/Admins/(Devs?)   I am a big fan of your games and products. I find it disappointing that I can not access and purchase any of your games using Battlefront.com. WHy? As you are not allowing me to. Why? I would love to know Why. As I have discovered there is many users like me (e.g. in Poland where I live) having the same problems with your site/platform (no-access). I have found some infromations in the web that you are blocking some huge number of IPs for some security reasons. It is hard to understand what are the reasons as you are blocking harmless, potential customer IPs like mine. It is even harder to understand as you are not some minor publisher with some unknown titles in the portfolio who can just ignore hundreds of the potential customers.   I would appreciate your comment/answer telling me how can I buy CM: Black Sea on your website. Asnwers like "Use your friend computer" or "Change your IP" are not what I expect from a professional publisher like you.   I realy hope you will be able to help me.   Best regards,

I've heard rumours of a Shock Force sequel so I thought this blog may come in handy if it were to ever happen, Syria has done some serious overhauling on some of their T-72's, I don't know how the game engine would simulate it but it would be interesting.

    Enjoy the blog

Although I expected v4 (final) to be the definitive version of TweakedUI for CM:BN, it was -obviously- not to be.
After many requests i've finally decided to update TweakedUI to include full support for CM:FI and its Gustav line module. There are also a few other tweaks/additions that affect both games:

    WHAT'S NEW IN v5:
    - CM:FI base game and Gustav line module are now fully supported.
    - New unique portraits for Canadian, Polish and NZ forces.
    - New Bren weapon slot icon.
    - Cosmetic updates to loading bars and command buttons.
    - Optional French language splash background for CM:BN.

Get it now in at GaJ's ! The repository will follow shortly, as usual. NOTE: You will find this mod in the CM:BN section!

waclaw reacted to Kinophile in Alternate control panel layout
The current info/orders panel is pretty rough on the eyes - a lot of stylistic, proportion and information flow errors.
No consistency in vertical break-up, no consistency in panel size/proportions/relations, no consistency in button design.

Here is a first draft alternate:

    Simplification of information flow
Information flows from the left, Action sits on the right
    i/e/ READ --> WRITE
Keeps orders/usage to the right hand side
Scales consistently tighter in parallel with level of information and priority of action within the game
Starts harmonising panel and button styles

Here are the original and alternate side-by-side.

With the purchase of CMA this morning, I now own all the CMx2 games.  I suppose it’s safe to say I’m becoming a CMx2  addict, as I usually have at least one battle raging at all times across the full spectrum of games.  Worse yet, I fear I may have also spread the disease to my son, if the four or five PBEM conflicts he currently has ongoing is any indication.  On a short road trip the other day we were discussing the myriad directions BF could take the current engine and we came up with the following, in no particular order:
WWII North Africa:  Afrika Korps, 8th Army, 7th AD, Free French, El Alamein, Tobruk, Gazala….a personal favorite of mine Fulda Gap:  This is number one on my wish list.  Fought this battle in my head a hundred times over as a kid growing up in the 60’s and 70’s.  Lots of possibilities here.  Think Sir John Hackett’s The Third World War. WWII Pacific Theater:   Not really pining for this.  Primarily an infantry slog in jungle terrain.  I’d likely wear out my Alt and “T” keys. Vietnam:  See above. Sino-Soviet Clash:  Intrigues me.  Not sure it’s ever been done in an electronic wargame.  Wouldn’t have to deal with my personal quirk of never playing against the US. Arab-Israeli Wars:  As something different, I’d be up for this one as well. Korea:  Like Vietnam, I don’t think this war sells in the electronic gaming market. Falklands:  Small, limited, dull (with apologies to anyone who took part). Desert Storm:  Too one-sided. OEF and OIF:  These are still too personal for me.  Rather see updates to CMA and CMSF. I’m sure there are other possibilities out there, particularly in the hypothetical, but this is what we came up with off the top of our heads shortly after emerging from a CM induced coma.

From recent ongoing PBEM match.    Until this moment, I never had a chance that this game is particularly trolling me, but I think now is the moment. How 5 of crack, high motivation, +1 leadership AA units missed 12 SAM missiles? Plus, Tungus missed 2~3 AAA shots. I can record additional videos as evidences if anyone wants. My opponent was also very surprised about survival of his fixed wings.

Am I particularly very unlucky? Or is this game trolling me? Or do the Redfor AAs have bug or trouble? Please anyone, give me reasonable explanation behind this. How this can happen? Should I need to officially report to BFC?    If I were real Russian commander and if I have proper authority and power, I already sent those AA units to Gulag, specially to the deep, deep side of Siberia.

    I love this game.
I'm building a heavy urban assault/grozny style map.
Small, intense, with a LOT of Russian arty support - I'm interested in testing how US forces would adapt to the Russian super heavy bombardments.

But the CM3 arty explosions are awful...they look like arty dropped on the moon - slow mo fountain, thin, soft.
    No violence to them.

What format are they in the game?
Is it possible to replace them with a more detailed 3D model?
I'd love soemthing more vicious, such as the attached image.
This is most like too detailed for the engine, but a good reference for density, shape, style.

waclaw reacted to ChappyCanuck in Contiinued LOF glitch
I have spent untold hundreds of hours on the CM games, yet one thing still frustrates me to no end:  the LOF "glitch".  I know ALL of you have experienced this "glitch", but after my latest battle I just had to bring this to the surface again.

I am meticulous in setting up my defence - and it takes hours. Interlocking arcs of fire for my ATGs and MGs, tanks sited in hull down positions, you name it. Just like when I was an infantry officer...everything tied in together.  In the game, I allow for the crews to complete their shuffling around to ensure LOS/LOF.

And then I hit the start button and it all goes for a sh#t.

Suddenly it looks like some child sited the defence: LOF blockage everywhere.  Maddening, frustrating, ridiculous.  And still this is happening in the latest versions of the game.

Again, I know every one of us has experienced this, and in most games I just let it go to: "stuff happens", but with this last battle it was frequent and insane.

Any ideas on solving this mess would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    CMPzC Operation Donetsk "Little Stalingrad"
Anybody interested? Read on and PM me if you want to enlist into the development team. I have some folks already onboard.

I envision 2 teams. Ukraine Army vs. Separatists. Each team has a CO making the operational decisions and then the CM battles go to his stable of PBEM foot soldiers. The CM battles will be fought with units made from real world OOB and TOE. These will not be quick battle points types of CM battles. Yes, you may be called upon to defend a hex with just your platoon against a company assault. We’ll use “leader units”. We’ll have “Action Cards”. There will be some appetizer mini-battles prior to the official kick-off party.
    Needed:
    A.  CM Mapmakers!
    B.   Operational Map designers!
    C.   Modmakers!
    D.  OOB experts for this specific conflict!
    E.   Unit Counter artists!
    F.   CM Battle designers!
    G.  Beer and sandwiches!

The starting point will be my usual 10-10-10x10 sanity maintenance protocol. Max of 10 turns of 2 hours each, maybe spread over 2 days. Max of 10 units per side. Op map is a max of 10km x 10km. This can all be dialed down smaller if the interest is not adequate to support even that.

The above plan is mine and is subject to any good ideas coming in to correct my misconceptions and make things better.

    ETA: none at this time.

The french army surrendering to each and everybody is a common meme on the internet, but actully they are quite capable. I recently saw a documentary on the French SF operating in Mali and they appeared very professional to me.

More importantly, the FAMAS is a really looking rifle. I hope we' ll see it in one of the CMBS modules.

waclaw reacted to James Crowley in Would these be good/possible features for the upcoming ver 4.00?
With the exciting news that a Ver, 4.00 of CMX2 will be under development at an unspecified time in the future and that the features to be included have yet to be decided on, do any of the features on this whimsical wish list, many of which have been raised before and which apply equally across FI, BN and RT, strike a chord?

Or are many/all of them merely tilting at windmills?
Make the branching in AI orders have more conditions, make it non-binary.Similar in Campaigns, plus simple dialog-based choices so the designer doesn't have to insert a scenario for every choice they want to accommodate.  Updating all the UI elements to C21st standards (scalable, configurable, incorporating standard UI conventions like scroll bars and in-place editing). Camera height going to actual eye levels of selected elements. Allow Broken troops to rout off the map edge in all cases if they're still running away and they hit it; if they leave from within a setup or exit zone, they're not counted as casualties;if they leave off an unmarked edge, they're MIA. Improve the TacAI so it's more aware of what's around it and can react to that knowledge. Including more surrendering when cut off, surrounded and about to be wiped out. Especially allow it to abort/reschedule script movement orders when it's being forced to run a gauntlet. Tagging for units and AI order groups so that groups get orders appropriate to the kind of assets which will be assigned. Make screen edge scrolling toggleable. Being able to Tab to a waypoint. better representation of close assault on vehicles. The current one, whereby an AFV can be 'assaulted' from up to 30m away - sometimes with an obstacle to movement in the way - is far too generic and allows something that happened on a vanishingly small scale to become almost commonplace. The real short range danger to AFV's were 'zooks, 'shrecks, fausts and Piats not 'improvised' weapons. better auto-selection of forces in Mix option, in QBs, particularly in the tiny and small categories. stopping the heavy 'clipping' that is still possible with AFVs. I know Steve has said this is very difficult but having, for instance, a tank drive 'through' another tank on a narrow bridge is a real immersion killer, IMO. Never going to happen but... Tighter C&C around out of command units. Ideally, no communication with them at all but, more likely, some limitation on command options. Less casualties, much more suppression effects on infantry under fire, particularly in heavy cover/buildings.
