Looks like they have the whole sound track for the game (and many other treasure from the past).

    So you are saying:
The leader, supported by scouting units, should be in a location, from which he has an overview of the operational area and which is close enough to the subordinate units, to control and direct them.
    Ah, ja. That‘s a new concept. 😎

Yep, coming from that region, I would love to see a TF Welborn scenario. As I recall, this was the last larger tank engagement of the war and therefore certainly is some sort of „milestone“. There were one or two scenario attempts for CMx1, but they were not very convincing.
Otherwise, I remember a pretty good Northeim campaign for CMx1, which I would love to play with CMFB.
And the Harz should offer room for small scale actions in extremely difficult terrain.

Ok, uploaded. The clips are not exactly "big screen" quality but should make you greedy enough. 😆 And just for the fun of it, I uploaded 2 clips of the Churchill Crocodile in action, too.
You may need the VLC Media Player or similar to watch the AVI files. My «normal» Windows player did not want to play them.

Agreed, the equipment is great. But, at least to my knowledge, there is still very little content for the beautiful stuff.

And if I recall right, there are even two scenarios for the flail tanks.🤔
The VP is a „questionable investment“, more like a collectors item. You don‘t need it, but you have to have it.😎

Finally, I finished my PBEM game of Wittmans Demise. I played the Germans and scored a tactical victory, killed 43 tanks but lost 29. Wittmann survived (with Dollinger and von Westernhagen).
Extremely exciting scenario. I was about to give up a couple of times. Each time when I thought „I‘ve done it! That‘s it now!“ some more Shermans popped up.
I don‘t want to spoil the scenario for others, so just my two highlights:
    - Von Westerhagen single handedly saved the left flank and cleared the farm west of Gaumnesil (La Maisonette, I believe) with his Tiger from 3 Shermans in (almost) hand to hand combat. 🤓
    - After missing twice, Wittmann scored the last kill precisely in the last second of the regular playing time.🍾

StieliAlpha got a reaction from Bud Backer in Barbarians on Netflix
    Gents
I just "binge-watched" the first three episodes of "Barbarians". Coming from the actual Varus battle area, I simply had to and even signed in for a free test abo with Netflix.
What shall I say? Pretty good so far. Very worthwhile to watch but certainly not a "historical documentary". Well, one should not expect that, of course. The series is quite comparable with "Vikings" or "The Last Kingdom". Being the latest "Nit Pick Prize" winner (refer to other threads 😁), I have some comments, of course:
    - - It's a (somehow) serious attempt to portray this history changing battle "movie style". Else, I remember only a movie from the 70's. And that was, ehem, "not good"
    - the Romans speak Latin. Perfect, that really adds a lot to the general feeling!
    - the German language on the other hand is strange (an english soundtrack is available), as it indeed sounds too modern. Some people say it sounds like in downtown Berlin. That's probably somewhat unfair, but not completely wrong.
    - though the looks are in general pretty good, some main characters, like Folkwin or Thusnelda, look too good. Like nowaday teens (or Tweens) with perfect white teeth, which I would not really expect in 9 AD Germany.
    - the shots of the country side are not quite right The series was filmed in Hungary and one does see the difference. There are no wide rolling, wooded hills in the north of Eastern-Westafalia. The Teutoburg Forest is more like an arc of narrow wooded hills. This really may be nit picking, but it disturbes me.
    - some people complain about the stirrups being used by the Roman-German Cavalry, but THAT is reallly nit picking...
All in all: Pretty good attempt and worth spending a few hours.

The scenario plays out quite differently for me.
Of course, I had a "perfect" plan.
On the right flank, I first took the "knoll" without opposition. Then on to the Chateau, that's where things became derailed. The Panthers cleared the Chateau from Shermans and ATG's easily enough , but my infantry was hit hard by arty and mortar and delayed. Not too bad yet, I still took the Chateau.
Being behind schedule, I raced toward the north slope. Obviously the Panthers and StuG arrived first, a platoon of infantry followed on half tracks two on foot. But unfortunately, I had missed a Sherman near the Chateau, which killed two of the half tracks. I sent one Panther back to quickly despatch the Sherman, but now I had one Panther less up front.
Becoming frustrated from waiting, I moved the other Panthers and the StuG through the woods. The StuG soon was immobilzed by hand granades and I decided to race through with the Panthers. That worked nicely, until they ran into an ambush of  three Shermans. Only one of three Panthers returned, luckily just in time to spoil a counter attack at the north slope victory point area. Meanwhile my infantry had moved up and secured half of the north slope VP area.
Earlier, I decided to move the fourth Panther along the road on the north edge, hoping to contest the north east slope victory point area in the end game. Worked nicely, until it was killed (just tooday) by a Sherman lurking in the orchards.
On the left flank, I had the plan to just pin the oppo force in the north east VP area with the Pz IV and an infantry company. Stupid enough, I was drawn into a fight, lost two Pz IV and a counter attack smashed my infantry. Panzerfaust's and the remaining Pz IV's stopped the counter attack, but the left front is now in some sort of stalemate.
We have still 30 minutes to go and my final plan is "hold out and hope for the best".
So, all in all: A lot of movement, some hot action, some nice achievements, some bad failures. Not too shabby for a CM scenario. 🙂
Ah, I forgot to say: I am playing "The Mace" PBEM.
Re the "story telling": Yep, sounds familiar. My wife would not care to listen through this tale either, but I keep trying. 😉

Hi John, I wondered, too, but your question finally made me searching. This is from Wikipedia (search for Hill 262):
„One of the few westbound roads in the area runs from Chambois through the pass, heading towards Vimoutiers and the River Seine.[31][33]Historian Michael Reynolds describes Point 262N as offering "spectacular views over much of the Falaise Pocket".[32] Viewing the feature on an Allied map, Maczek commented that it resembled a caveman's club with two bulbous heads; the Poles nicknamed it the Maczuga, Polish for "mace".[33][34] The ridge, known to the Allies as Hill 262,[5] formed a crucial blocking position for sealing the Falaise Pocket and preventing any outside attempts to relieve the German 7th Army.“
    Great scenario, by the way.

I have about 1.2 GB of his vehicle mods all labeled „FB“ or „CMFB“. All-in-one packs for the Pz IV, Panther, JgdPz IV, StuG and StuH, plus individual mods for the Hetzer, Stuart, Jagdpanther, M8 HMC, M10, Sherman Jumbo and Tiger.
In addition his terrain mod B with another 800 MB.

StieliAlpha reacted to Ithikial_AU in MG Joe‘s Bridge - Victory conditions?
<-- Scenario designer. Happy to take a look at the save game if you still have.
Victory conditions are in the briefing and the VP allocation is in top image. I think you destroyed enough of the Shermans to get across the line. The Shermans award the most VP on purpose for the German player. The Germans need to focus down the Irish Guard armour to cause problems for a possible further allied advance north of the bridge. We know Market Garden wouldn't be launched until a week later, but at this point but the Germans had no idea and had nothing ready to defend anything north of the position all the way to Eindhoven at this point.
The mission is only semi-historical as the German counterattack depicted happened at dawn the following morning rather than immediately after the storming of the bridge. I've promised myself that I'd go back and tweak this one if BF ever released an update that introduced tank riders to CMBN as the Brits road them as they stormed the bridge itself.
I've also still got the German source material from Ulf I mention in the scenario designer comments section and part of me wants to create a scenario for the Hectel fight just south of this one between the Welsh Guards with their Cromwells (there just aren't enough scenarios with Cromwells ) and SS defenders with Jadpanther support. But too many projects on as it is plus RL.

StieliAlpha reacted to DerKommissar in Close combat (or lack of it)
I find that melee combat is laughable in computer wargames. In Theatre of War and Graviteam Tactics, the soldiers kick in the air -- as if they were dancing. Then a random algorithm causes 1 of them to fall dead.
In Island of Fire (Stalingrad book, by Jason D. Mark), they do mention sharpened shovels used in hand-to-hand fighting (by both sides). However, the King of room-to-room fighting are grenades and assorted explosives. SMGs being the Queen, if you will. I actually don't remember any mentions of bayonets being used against personnel. Troops would either run or surrender before they ran out of all ammo.
Bayonets were primarily designed to be used against cavalry. So, I wouldn't mind seeing cavalry, as well...
Is modelling something that rarely happened, and is largely irrelevant in a world with grenades and guns, the top priority here? No matter how much money, or people you have working on a simulation -- you can't simulate /everything/.
