  1. RESOLUTION: Michael, I was able to accomplish the success required. It wasn't as painful as a root canal nor as futile as getting a date with Kate Upton. Still, a day's intended for gaming wound up being spent as a day of research and trouble-shooting. In the end, I downloaded the No-CD patches from GameBurnWorld to make these work. GameBurnWorld - Game Fixes No-CD patches at URL = http://www.gameburnworld.com/pcgamefixesc.shtml These are small patches which enable you to patch your game and play it without the CD in the drive. These Game Fixes are called No-CD patches. I downloaded the ones for Single Player modes. Call of Duty - installed the game with no patches; used the CallofDutyv1.0NoCDFixedexeEng Within "Call of Duty Game of the Year Edition" folder Renamed application file "CoDSP" to CoDSP with disk" Extracted and copied GameBurnWorld "CoD2SP" Call of Duty United Offensive - installed the game with no patches; used the CallOfDutyUnitedOffensive1.0NoCDFixedexeEng Within "Call of Duty Game of the Year Edition" folder Renamed application file "CoDUOSP" to CoDUOSP with disk" Extracted and copied GameBurnWorld "CoDUOSP" Call of Duty 2 - installed the game with no patches but had to use the CallOfDuty2v1.3NoDVDFixedexeEng. It seems my DVD version of the game came with Patch 3 already applied. Within "Activision / Call of Duty 2" folder Renamed application file "CoD2SP_s" to CoD2SP_s with disk" Extracted and copied GameBurnWorld "CoD2SP_s" The games all now load successfully and let you play. I earn my living in IT project management. I find hacking worrisome and piracy criminal. In this case the executable at GameBurnWorld still requires a legally loaded game with all the game folders and components in order to work. The No-CD fix appears to bypass the Windows KB3086255 update (and others like it). This allowed these legacy games to load and play on Windows 10. I only wish the game company itself, in this case Activision, would have made this easier for us to do. Look for the No-CD patches applicable to the games you're trying to run. Good luck and good gaming.
  2. Sifting wheat from chaff, this seems to explain things. https://myonlinesecurity.co.uk/september-2015-windows-updates-kb3086255-breaks-many-games/ "September 2015 Windows updates KB3086255 breaks many games. Microsoft released twelve (12) bulletins. Five (5) bulletins are identified as Critical and the remaining seven (7) are rated Important in severity. The updates address vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft,.NET Framework, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Lync, Microsoft Silverlight, Skype for Business Server, Microsoft Lync Server, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer." "This September 2015 Windows update KB3086255 basically disables secdrv.sys which is an anti-piracy copy protection that is used by many games developers and some other software companies. The driver, secdrv.sys, is used by games which use Macrovision SafeDisc. Without the driver, games with SafeDisc protection would be unable to play on Windows." If you see that message on Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1 then use the fix described earlier in the Microsoft KB If you see that message in Windows 10 then you are out of luck and the game will not run on Windows 10 There are no known legitimate or safe methods to install or run these older games on Windows 10 Would really like to make these games work on Win10. The quest continues . . .
  3. @rocketman, Thank you for your quick response. Okay, so I copied the CO2-Coreinstaller from my old machine into my new one while the Lock 'N Load site is down. It successfully loaded. I Installed on "D" drive. Game doesn't work. Step 1) Double-clicked "CO2" icon to start the game. Step 2) Received a pop-up window saying, "Before you run Command Ops 2, you must choose to either match the current screen resolution or specify one from the lists below - Match current screen resolution / Full Screen / Wide Screen 16x10 / Wide Screen 16x9". I can only choose "Match current screen resolution". I clicked "OK" Step 3) Received pop-up window error saying, "CmdOps.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Any suggestions?
  4. I'd like to check out Command Ops 2 Core Engine on a Windows 10 o/s. I've installed and run successfully on a legacy Windows Vista desktop machine. From my Win10 machine, I'm having trouble getting a download. Problem seems to be with Lock 'N Load websites. All and any help is welcome. I successfully accessed http://www.panthergames.com/. I click "Buy Now" which took me to https://store.lnlpublishing.com/index.php?route=account/login. It required me to be a registered user. I previously registered as a new user but never received a confirmation email. When I try to login as an existing user it errors out saying "no match" for my userid/password. When I try to register again it says my ID is already taken. I'd log a support ticket for UserID/password help but this site requires that you need to login before you can create a ticket! Any suggestions on how to "purchase" for free and download? Also, is Command Ops 2 even playable on Windows 10? Thanks for any help.
  5. I have finally left the 20th Century behind me embraced the 21st instead. This meant upgrading to a more robust gaming PC with a Windows 10 o/s. (@LukeFF would be rightfully bemused that my desktop gaming rig still runs on Windows Vista.) The Luddite in me still enjoys a number of legacy games. I've successfully installed "Call of Duty Game of the Year" (circa 2003) from CD with key without any patches. However, the game fails to run. No errors occur. Changing "compatibility mode" provides no solution. The same holds true for "Call of Duty United Offensive" and "Call of Duty 2". These games run successfully on my WinVista machine though . . . I've done some online research but am leery of the "no CD hacks" solutions. Has anyone in this august company of gamers encountered this (or similar) problems? How can I solve this? Thank you for any and all suggestions.
  6. I'm not familiar with any of this work. I have asked some former Marine field grade friends their opinion. I'll let you know what I learn.
  7. some other places http://www.historynet.com/battle-for-kasserine-pass-1st-armored-division-were-ambushed-by-the-afrika-corps-at-sidi-bou-zid.htm - the prequel situation http://apps.westpointaog.org/Memorials/Article/10151/ - Bill Kern career summary During World War II, Bill commanded the 1st Battalion, 6th Armored Infantry Regiment in the North African Campaign. On 8 November 1942, his battalion spearheaded the landing of the 1st Armored Division near Oran, Algeria. He commanded the task force that freed over 500 American prisoners of war captured in the assault on Oran harbor. According to news reports published at the time, on 3 December 1942, his first battalion was the first US infantry to engage the German Army in combat in Tunisia. In February 1943, during the battles of Faid Pass and Sidi Bou Zid, his battalion, as part of Combat Command B, was the rear guard of the 1st Armored Division. “Kern’s Crossroads” shown on the 1st Armored Division’s maps of the campaign was named for him. http://www.history.army.mil/books/staff-rides/kasserine/vol-i-part_1.pdf - start at pdf page 17 (document page 248) http://www.benning.army.mil/Library/content/Armor%20in%20Battle%20II_December%202015.pdf - small mention starting pdf page 98
  8. To me, the time frame is close enough to be either late CMBN or early CMFB. I don't own CMFB and am very happy to see this being done in CMBN. Kudos for your efforts. Look forward to watching this progress. Thank you.
  9. Smart approach. Very nice result! These are excellent. Thank you.
  10. It will likely affect initial game loading time. All mods add time to load at start-up. After that, I've never experienced any game-play performance impacts. This is a superlative sound mod! It's has positively impacted my gaming experience in a huge way. Download, extract, enjoy!
  11. Yea, we wished! Lugging those around was no easy matter. Great find, John. Thank you. I can forgive the Chieftain his comment. He actually said third position can take you to 30 mph but as you say that is faster than the recommended sustained max speed stated in the FB training film. As a SME he got the rest of the technical and mechanical information correct. I was surprised that not much was said in either series about Magneto switch starters. I recall those as very temperamental but I was likely spoiled by the more advanced electrical starter switches developed later. Again, nice find, John. The T-26 had a lot of design engineering improvements from its WW2 predecessors. Though memories of breaking track brought a small tear to my eyes . . .
  12. Scribd (https://www.scribd.com/doc/248660553/2nd-Panzer-Division-Wehrmacht) states the 2nd Panzer Division during Normandy Landings was held in reserve most of June and clashed with the British 50th Infantry and 7th Armoured Divisions in July. 6-10 August found it attacking the US 30th Infantry Division in the initial assaults of the German Operation Lüttich offensive at Mortain. By 19-August they were a stopgap force in the Falaise Pocket where they attacked but failed to dislodge the Polish 1st Armored Division at Mont Ormel ridge.
  13. Very nicely done! I heard no whine in your audio. I think its fine. I like your building deployment and face command information very much. I did not realize how that worked until you explained it so well, especially the German MG advantages there. Fine job. Good to go. Thank you!
  14. @SLIM, I haven't had time to take a look at your latest efforts. Will try to do so soon. As always, thanks for doing these. My thoughts on doing a CMBN leadership video would focus more on how leaders affect game play. Easiest way, I suppose it to run a squad/platoon through the same task three ways. First, without any leader. Second with a -2 leader. Third with a +2 leader. This might show how leadership affects outcomes. Having said "easiest way", I doubt that this is a simple task. Would understand if you chose not to do it. Thanks again.
  15. @SeinfeldRules, Consider uploading these to Scenario Depot 3 (http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/). I wasn't aware of these until someone made a recent post on this thread. TSD3 will make these more visible to others, as they well deserve to be. Thank you for posting them.
  16. Literally true but threads here move to the background over time which will make this scenario hard to find. TPGII and SDIII are intended to specifically support scenario development as a true interactive repository. I am aware of the rudely juvenile posts directed at a JonS scenario when these sites were first launched. Still, I would like to support efforts there in the manner they originally intended. Good luck, user1000! May your scenario's be frequent and many!!
  17. Consider posting to "The Proving Grounds II" - http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tpg2/ - if you're looking for play-testers. Consider posting to "The Scenario Depot III" - http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/ - if done and final. Both sites cater better to scenario development and provide player feedback. Thanks for your efforts on this. Good luck producing more.
  18. I was unaware of Seinfieldrules' terrain mod. Tried it. Liked it. Great suggestion! Thank you. How do you integrate Seinfieldrules' mod with Aris' terrain effects mods? Which one should occur first (before the other) in your Z-folder?
  19. Agreed. I would consider the "General Discussion Forum" a better place to post information of this nature where it would be viewed by a wider audience and allow for broader discussion
  20. I suspect that your law enforcement experience does not include indirect fire nor close air support . .. Artillery support is the infantry's best friend but slow to show up when you need it. Either plan well ahead or allow for time to adjust fires. Light mortars with direct Line Of Sight are fast and effective. Smoke ("pop smoke") or fire support rounds are always handy. The enemy can only shoot what they see. Smoke blocks their vision. Incoming artillery suppresses their observation. Your other points about Recon and splitting squads are spot on.
  21. You prioritized your efforts correctly. Rapid fire tracers and violent explosions are a lot more fun than crawling forwards . . . .

  23. Right. This is my experience as well. And you can further simulate ToT by delaying those pre-planned strikes to occur at a later time when creating that initial fire mission. This would let you target an objective before the game begins, maneuver your forces for the time allotted, then sit tight while rounds fall, and afterwards proceed with your plan from there.
