@HUSKER2142 @John Kettler when I started wargaming/building model kits and soldiers many decades ago it was Airfix, ROCO, Frog and a few others.  I don't think the Japanese were on the scene then, although I did build a Tamiya Motorised Chieftain at one point, yes it did have rubber tracks.  I seem to recall being very unimpressed with its performance:  it crawled along and kept flaking  out...a bit like the real thing :-).

I haven't made any kits or painted any figures for ages.  When I was a kid my non-warlike  relatives (horrified at my prediliction for the baddies: Tiger Tanks, ME109s, the Scharnhorst) kept buying me sports cars, civilian airliners,  the Queen Elizabeth and the like...I'd open the boxes, have a look, then just stuff them on top of the cupboard with the production line of kits I had bought but not got round to making.
Somewhere around when I turned 16, I got interested in something else 🙂 and forgot about all this.
After Uni I was unemployed for a year (hard times) and  got completely immersed in D & D (which was an escape that helped me survive) and that brought me back to figure painting and wargaming.  Obviously now I rarely am able to meet for F2F gaming, which is a pity.
Funnily enough,  my parents were wanting to move house and asked me what to do with the unmade kits some years ago.  I said "I dunno,  I don't want them any more, probably chuck them out."   My mum, bless her, went on eBay and found out some of them were collectors items - boxed, unmade.  She sold them and gave the money to charity.  Which I was really pleased with.

Actually Fulda Gap is just a generic term.  What is the first campaign I'd like to see done in CM... errrr….. Group of Soviet Forces Germany - would be First Clash on the Canadian 4th Mech Bde Grp.
    Love that book

I feel an Apple IIGS rage coming on....Arghh! About 30 years ago the Apple IIGS came out, best computer at the time fully backwards compatible with Apple II and used new OS and even 3.5 disks. Apple cut production and support after 2 years. Imagine owning a $3500 boat anchor in 1988. The reason: Apple thought it competed against their own Macintosh. In reality the majority of GS owners moved on to x286 PC's.
That's Apple   great now my skin is turning green and my shirt is ripped.

@Hardradi can you confirm in your option settings that you have 3D set to best. This not only affects how things visually appear but also how many textures are loaded into the pregame cache. Fastest settings load only texture 1 and 2 to save virtual drive space whereas Best quality loads everything. Just a hunch.

That and it’s functional role was in real life more than likely significantly different than how they get used in CM.  That is a shortcoming that applies to a whole range of recon vehicles. The kinds of situations these would normally be used make for boring tactical combat situations. There have been occasional efforts towards doing something where your goal is to spot specific units, but it is pretty rare and that more than simple map size is where it might make a difference.
Recon in a standard tactical battle is something that most of us don’t do well.  Recon for an operational context is something CM isn’t really gonna be that much fun to do often.

Thanks. Didn't realize how my file host was set to huge pictures

One anecdotal story I gleamed from the internet regarding Kriegsmarine traditional uniforms. Late in the war a Kriegsmarine formation came under command and control of an SS division. Seems there was a surplus of pea dot camo uniforms, mostly wrap tunics. The Kriegsmarine infantry were given the pea dot camouflage but they refused to wear them and went on to the end of the war fighting in their Navy pea coats. I guess getting captured looking like SS didn't appeal to them.

I found it does noticeably suppress everyone in the building. I am not sure if this is a result of rounds landing in close proximity or if t is a result ricochets being tossed all over. But it will make the guys on the first floor nervous.

nik mond reacted to A Canadian Cat in Pak 40 gun glitch - mysterious crew casualties and subsequent abandoning of guns
OK I finally loaded this up and figured out what is happening.
TLDR: The gun teams are *not* suffering any casualties. Therefore nothing wrong here regarding HE or ricochet effects. They are abandoning their guns due to the game feature /  limitation of casualties suffered in one team of a platoon effecting the morale state of the entire platoon. Even though the effect on other team is not large when you have teams in a very bad morale state, like these guns were, it can be enough to push them over the edge.
    The full analysis:
First things first the guns do not suffer any casualties - they abandon their guns and the gun get a red base when that happens. So if you just quickly look you can mistake that for a casualty for sure. See images 5 and 6: notice the red base on the gun in the game screen but also notice all the members of the team are fine.

The ammo bearers reacted the same due to poor morale just like the gun crews. Also there is a 5s time span for the events in question.
There is a game feature / limitation whereby the combat stress, especially casualties, that happen to one team have morale effects on all other teams in the platoon. Someone did a nice post that showed this effect but I cold not find the post - I thought it was @MOS:96B2P, or @Bulletpoint or @Josey Wales - if anyone can find it please post the link. Basically casualties effect the morale of a squad but it turns out it also effects the morale of the rest of the platoon too. This happens regardless of if other teams can see the casualties happen of if C2 is maintained. Frequently we do not notice this for two reasons: 1) platoons are often located near each other so if a squad is taking casulties the sister squads can see those casualties too, so we don't really find it surprising that the suffer too. 2) frequently morale effects are not as drastic or cut and dry as abandoning a gun, so we are not surprised if squads in a bad way become shaken. In this case we have teams that are separated by a significant distance and we have a noticeable event, the abandoning of the guns, that is an important and significant change.
Here is the condition of the teams and sequence of events:
First we have the team that will take the casualties 4 Squad / Team B. They are shaken and will be under fire from a several enemy units during the turn.
    01 Team that gets hit:

The two guns are in the same platoon as the above team (1 Battery). Both gun crews are broken.
    02 One gun:

    03 Second gun:

At 31:34 the Sherman shell explodes near 4 Squad / Team B and three men become casualties.
04 Team take the hit and three casualties:

At 31:31 the gun Squad / A Team are shaken and have had enough. They abandon their gun.
    05 One gun abandoned:

At 31:29 the other gun (also called Squad / A Team) become shaken and abandon their gun.
    06 Second gun abandoned:

So, the bottom line is this even is due to the way the game works and is not a problem that needs to be fixed. Although I suppose we could debate if the game should work that we or not. Frankly I am not sure that would be a worth while use of our time though

It all depends on size of scenario.  When CM1 came out I was convinced that RT was the only way to play for the reasons you stated.
But, as I became more experienced (and aged) and started to play much larger scenarios, I became a religiously fervent WEGO convert.  Apart from playability, it's so much fun to replay sequences all over the battlefield to see all the small pixeltruppen stories get told.

Brother Ed is happily making craters on a 3-D printer, and I unearthed this to help him. Turns out this is a blast from my past, in the form of a runway cratering study I used when doing a report on US rapid runway repair capability in my early days at Hughes. This is, in part, quite the tutorial on crater configuration from aerial bombs and addresses dimensions  for a range of bomb sizes against both a range of runway types and against bare soil. It's called BOMB CRATER DAMAGE TO RUNWAYS and was authored by Peter Westine of the Southwest Research Institute.

Without trying to patronize that example I could see a green soldier firing a panzerfaust in a building and back blasting a comrade. Firing hand held AT in a building was implemented some time ago with penalties to condition. I've had schreks cause light casualties to squadmates when fired in a building too on occasion.

I just did this,  dropped some benches and crates and placed a church on top. Pews and alter. Same for factories and warehouses you can drop sacks and barrels etc. I never used or saved what I did but here's a screen shot.
